£1.25m and didn’t move the clothes horse

Probably some of the most unflattering estate agent photos I’ve ever seen…no show pineapple here!
For £1.25m, why oh why didn’t they move the clothes horse and coats?

It's obviously an elderly person's home @Pixiedust1234 - everything about the way it's decorated tells you that. Toys on floor look like dog toys (and there's a dog bed in the study), toys on beds are there as decoration - my MIL and her SILs all did/do this.

I thought I spotted a couple of related assistance aids in one, or more, of the upstairs rooms, so I'd have guessed it belonged to an elderly person.

Pixiedust1234 · 26/05/2022 14:37

@FatherBuzzCagney -there is a huge difference between elderly/or dead and nearing retirement but lived there twenty years. Its old decor but not that old. I will concede on them being dog toys rather than kids toys, I missed that connection.

At pp above. There is one obvious aid in the bedroom which is designed to be in a shower. The bathroom is big enough to put it there which gives the impression its just being stored and not used. Many people keep hold of zimmer frames, walking sticks, wheelchairs as they don't know what to do with them. Seems awful to throw out but who do you give them to?

Again, it is a lovely house the "bones" are there it just needs personalising. EAs have done a bad job.

FatherBuzzCagney · 26/05/2022 14:57

@Pixiedust1234 Nobody was decorating houses like that in 2002! Most of the furniture looks as if it's from the 70s or 80s, some of it looks older, some possibly early 90s. It looks so like a bigger version of the house my aunt and uncle lived in, last decorated when they moved in to it in the mid-80s, but full of furniture from the 70s.

Certainly used to be the case that walking frames and wheelchairs got collected. I can't remember who came to take mum's aids after she died, but someone did. Possibly at the same time as they took her epic quantities of unused medicines.

I guess if you haven't been through it, it might not be obvious, but if you have then this is very, very clearly an older person's house being cleared.

Agree that it's a very nice house (if you like mock tudor).

Pixiedust1234 · 26/05/2022 15:04

We have to agree to disagree. It might be a downsizing now someone is reaching retirement/empty nest but no way is it obvious its a house belonging to someone who has died. Anyway, thats enough behind the scenes speculation which could get the thread deleted. I was only pointing things out to other posters who thought it was vile of OP to link.

Can anyone lend me 1mil? 😄

It's pretty obvious when someone upthread confirms they knew the dead person.

BalloonsAndWhistles · 26/05/2022 15:29

There’s a lot of potential I’d say but if it were my home I’d be cross about the state of those pictures. Assuming it’s in good nick structurally, I’m sure someone looking for a project could make it fantastic.

Sockpile · 26/05/2022 15:47

The decor doesn’t matter, it’s the location and size of the house/plot that’s commanding the price. I’m sure who ever buys that will fully refurbish it.

starlingdarling · 26/05/2022 15:56

If that's true then the estate agents are woeful. Terrible photos and they haven't bothered to mention that the property is chain free (a big plus to any potential purchase).

Ncwinc · 25/05/2022 23:49

Look at the pictures. It’s easy enough to see what is happening/has happened. This is an unpleasant thread.

Agreed.

the pictures made me sad.

either no next of kin or they couldn’t travel to prepare the house for sale.

I hope the owners had many happy years there.

Do you really think agents have the time/inclination/permission to go round tidying up and moving things for photographs?

There may not even be relatives, and if there are we don't know the circumstances, they could be infirm themselves, overseas or any other dozens of reasons why someone can't get to the property to organise it for photographs.

As for not mentioning chain free, perhaps they haven't mentioned it as a probate sale might be off-putting? Not all agents will mention a probate chain.

Either way, sitting here mocking the remains of someones life and commenting how this gave them a 'good laugh 'is thoroughly distasteful.

balalake · 26/05/2022 16:30

They'd have had to keep the windows closed as there was a fire at the local bus depot last weekend.

Idhatetolookintothoseeyes · 26/05/2022 16:36

@Ncwinc I agree

Tippexy · 26/05/2022 16:47

I can’t see any coats or an airer - have they changed the photos?

Oh wow you’re right, they’ve changed the photos

Looks much better, if you’re reading!

darisdet · 26/05/2022 16:53

They've been changed!

Yes, I do. I actually said waaaay up thread that the agents did exactly that for my DH's 2 bed flat despite earning a lot less commission. Not necessarily tidying up but moving things so you could see the room.

I've never known a probate sale to be off putting either but a chain of several purchases can be the stuff of nightmares. Horses for courses but most agents with actual experience of selling house make a point of highlighting chain free sales. Property is instantly more appealing to me if there's no risk of the seller changing their mind about their own purchase hundred or thousands of pounds down the line.

Clearly the EA must have caught wind of this thread and the 100s of views Wink.

It's been listed for 5 weeks

IQuiteLikeCricket · 26/05/2022 17:43

Taking the clothes horse out and the coats from the kitchen have made a nice difference. Showing the outbuildings was a good move too. I think it looks like a lovely well loved house with lots of happy memories in there.

LouisCatorze · 26/05/2022 18:14

I reckon there's been a grown-up son living there, judging by the room with the multiple screens and Star Wars paraphernalia.

I just went for a walk down the road. It looks a reasonably variable locale for houses priced at £1.25million. The houses may have large(ish) back gardens but they're built very close together. You might expect a bit more space in their togetherness for that property price.
