£1.25m and didn’t move the clothes horse

Probably some of the most unflattering estate agent photos I’ve ever seen…no show pineapple here!
For £1.25m, why oh why didn’t they move the clothes horse and coats?

Ah, but there is a pineapple.... top of the stairs photo!

justasoul · 26/05/2022 11:17

@Intrigueddotcom - it's not how I approach my job but definitely how the estate agent's photographer did. Unfortunately I doubt it's much different with other estate agents.

It's deliberate. Anyone with that kind of money will be gutting that whole house. The shabbier it looks, the more they can justify it, and the more they feel they've added value. Rich people don't like to buy anything between "half decent" and "perfect" - they want one extreme or the other.

This .

Do er uppers attract more interest.
Very sought after by developers and private buyers.

this one, why didn’t they put the washing up away?

They could have also angled the photo of the bedroom so the security locks on the patio door weren't the focus of the picture.

That place looks like it has a lot of potential, if it was less cluttered and some of the dark wood toned down, but I think I'd be lying in bed watching that door expecting the mad axe murderer to come crashing through Shock

gave me a good laugh, thanks for posting

Oh good.

Glad someone's death and subsequent property sale has tickled you. I'm sure the relatives must be doubled over with the hilarity of it all.

Not sure if you're being facetious or not but I'm currently looking to downsize and among the most off putting things are grey, everywhere, inside and out, that for me knocks money off to redecorate. So dated, the battleship look!

Quite obviously she's being facetious. Note the winky face.

What a vile thread to start- let’s all bash this elderly persons house for no reason whatsoever..

Christ it’s a clothes horse it’s hardly going to affect any future buyer.

I do hope the family/neighbours are not on here to see your ridicule..

This is a massive stretch. Owners are responsible for taking photos, they photographer should be trying to show the property in the best light.

NippyWoowoo · 26/05/2022 11:40

That should say owners aren’t* responsible, it’s the job of the EA.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 26/05/2022 11:51

It looks like an old people's home.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with you that doer uppers attract good interest, but I think it’s a huge stretch to say that owners deliberately make their homes look worse by leaving laundry airers lying around just to get more interest!

Heres a house that I’m talking about falls in the mid category - a beautiful home but needs a lick of paint, it isn’t a proper doer-upper but nor is it a show home. I think this type of house will be really popular because buyers can easily move in to it exactly as is but then clearly see how they’d put their own stamp on it without needing to do loads of work.

PurpleButterflyWings · 26/05/2022 12:12

I think that one is actually really nice @ShirleyPhallus Smile

Geranium1984 · 26/05/2022 12:13

Our photographer moved a few things around (like taking shampoo out of the shower etc.) when he took pics of our place. Not sure why these estate agents didn't do a bit of rearranging.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/05/2022 12:03

Oh that's lovely!
You're right - you'd want to make it your own.

Laurajane1987 · 26/05/2022 12:17

What a weird ugly thread, very much in the spirit of Mean Girls.

ATadConfused · 26/05/2022 12:24

carefullycourageous · 26/05/2022 07:52

These threads are nasty. That's someone's home, you don't know what's happening.

@carefullycourageous

Calm down

it's not nasty to say the bloody photographer for the agency that will get a good sum of money could have moved a bloody airer before taking photographs.

Evilcountspatula · 26/05/2022 12:30

Cannot believe that some are commenting on vile decor etc. WTF is wrong with people?

Pixiedust1234 · 26/05/2022 12:35

I think the house is lovely. I dont quite understand why pp think its an old persons home? I see toys, I see home working. The bathstool could be from a parent who died, sure, but not in this house, many people store unused wheelchairs etc bc they don't know what to do with them afterwards (sometimes years).

The estate agent is letting them down. The "study" should have been photographed from a different corner so the cables were less visible (like the bathroom is). That takes seconds. Removal of clothes airer takes seconds. Opening curtains takes seconds. Moving coats takes seconds. That's four rooms that would look better within seconds. That is one lazyarsed photographer.

Poppetlove · 26/05/2022 12:41

Lolliepoppie · 26/05/2022 00:06

To be clear this is not a dig at the owners (most people have airers etc).

It was marvelling that the estate agents chose to take a photo of a prominent and fully loaded clothes horse when marketing such an expensive property.

It’s not the job of an estate agent to tidy and present a house.
if there was no kitchen or conservatory picture I’m sure people would moan too.

darisdet · 26/05/2022 12:44

I don't know why the photographer couldn't have moved the airer.

It's not a bad house externally, but it looks like it needs a lot of work updating internally.

TulipsGarden · 26/05/2022 12:45

@ShirleyPhallus That house is lovely, not a doer-upper at all. There's only thing I'd change is the yellow/orange walls in some rooms and the curtains if they were left, and that's only because they're not to my taste. I suppose the bathrooms are a little dated, but perfectly fine and I love the kitchen. I'd move in tomorrow!

darisdet · 26/05/2022 12:45

I prefer the house in Shirley's link.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 12:46

The garden is nice.
The airer could have been moved.
It's a bit dated, but it does have potential.
I couldn't afford it!

It's obviously an elderly person's home @Pixiedust1234 - everything about the way it's decorated tells you that. Toys on floor look like dog toys (and there's a dog bed in the study), toys on beds are there as decoration - my MIL and her SILs all did/do this.

As I said earlier, anyone who's had to live and WFH in an elderly parent's house while clearing it, or has visited someone doing this, will recognise the way the house looks. It's what my mum's house looked like, and my aunt's house, and my PIL's house.

I never used to notice the way probate or care home sales looked before my mum died, but I find them incredibly poignant now. One day, if people on this thread are lucky enough to get old and own a house, strangers will be sneering at their hideous, old-fashioned taste, too.
