£1.25m and didn’t move the clothes horse

Probably some of the most unflattering estate agent photos I’ve ever seen…no show pineapple here!
For £1.25m, why oh why didn’t they move the clothes horse and coats?

I can't understand why people search Rightmove to post on here, they must have some interest in the property to do this

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 26/05/2022 07:22

I know someone who bought a similarly sized house for a similar amount of money not too far from there (only it’s in much better overall condition). Their plan is to knock the house down and start again!

Summersdreaming · 26/05/2022 07:26

I wonder if someone could make a job of prepping and staging houses for sale, when the owner can't or doesn't have time? It probably already exists but I'm suprised I haven't seen advertised by estate agents as an add on service already.

ScarlettDarling · 26/05/2022 07:26

Ncwinc · 25/05/2022 23:49

Look at the pictures. It’s easy enough to see what is happening/has happened. This is an unpleasant thread.

Oh come on, it’s obvious that the op is talking about the rubbish photos not the decor. Why on earth wouldn’t the EA move the clothes horse and the coats?

custardbear · 26/05/2022 07:31

Estate agent clearly doesn't give a hoot

Even at 1% commission, and it will probably be more, the EA will earn over £10k for the sale. You'd think they could spend an extra hour or two moving the airer, shoe boxes and coats out of the way, opening the curtains and putting a bit more thought into the photographs than they did.

starlingdarling · 26/05/2022 07:34

They could be downsizing or buying a retirement home. It doesn't say there's no chain which is the usual giveaway for probate properties or people going into care.

Anyway, I don't think it's bashing the owner. Don't we all live in houses like this when they're not being photographed for sale? It's the estate agent's photographer who didn't think to open curtains or move bits out of the way. When my DH sold his two bed flat the agent did the photos herself and brought some bits to make it look nicer and less "new build flat a man moved into with some furniture and never bothered to decorate". Her commission would have been a fraction of what these agents will be getting.

Lolliepoppie · 26/05/2022 07:34

I am not the vendor 😂 or in any way connected with them. If I was, I would be changing estate agent pronto...

Spidey66 · 26/05/2022 07:39

I didn't see it as an older person's home. There are a lot of computers and some toys in there.

girlmom21 · 26/05/2022 07:39

It'll be reduced soon. That could be a lovely home but needs an extra £50-100k for bathroom, kitchen and decor updates.

I'm amazed so many posters seem to have completely misunderstood the thread. It's beyond clear it was cricising the agents not mocking the vendors.

I'm sure it will sell easily but that won't be because of anything the agents have done.

HereLiveIAmNotACat · 25/05/2022 23:57

What a vile thread to start- let’s all bash this elderly persons house for no reason whatsoever..

Christ it’s a clothes horse it’s hardly going to affect any future buyer.

I do hope the family/neighbours are not on here to see your ridicule..

I agree, it’s sad some people have nothing better to do with their time.

lapasion · 26/05/2022 07:42

I like that the chairs are all facing the drier. As if watching clothes dry is a hobby of theirs.

I’m sure this thread will be zapped shortly though, as you can’t have a Rightmove thread without the ‘but what if X’ crew coming along to moan.

LouisCatorze · 26/05/2022 07:44

I would imagine that there will be plenty of homes of that ilk that have been lived in for forty/fifty years or more, that need redecorating and new bathroom/kitchen. I don't think it will impact the price if in a very sought after area though.

MsEverywhere · 26/05/2022 07:44

Lolliepoppie · 25/05/2022 23:45

and open the curtains!

There is probably a terrible view behind those curtains

Flimflamberdwidget · 26/05/2022 07:45

Utterly useless job by the estate agent. I would sack them immediately if they think these sort of photos are going to get me the best price for my home.
Those saying it's a nasty thread clearly didn't read the OP ffs, it's not a comment on the owners or the home but the lazy agent.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/05/2022 07:46

There are two airers in that conservatory, along with lots of chairs, so it shows its a sizeable space ?

TokyoTen · 26/05/2022 07:47

They'll have the lady laugh - Potters Bar will sell even with 20 airers

Tickledtrout · 26/05/2022 07:47

Ylvamoon · 26/05/2022 06:20

If I was the owner/ seller of the property, I'd make the EA re take the photos.
For that price and commission they can spend a few exra minutes here and there to make the property look tidy.
I agree, it is intrusive and insensitive.

Quite.

Ncwinc · 25/05/2022 23:49

Look at the pictures. It’s easy enough to see what is happening/has happened. This is an unpleasant thread.

Just because there are a few bits for a disabled/aging/recovering from illness/surgery bits in one bedroom, it doesn't mean anything terrible has happened.

there's plenty to suggest working/younger people live there.

either they don't want to sell or they're renting it.

there's a TON of shit everywhere, but the photographer could have easily moved the clothes airers.

A lot could have been done by motivated sellers.

loislovesstewie · 26/05/2022 07:48

Well, a house in my street was up for sale recently. The blurb said it needed TLC. Yes, of course I looked at the photos and quite frankly there had been no effort to tidy or make it look in any way pleasing . The decor was unique. It really looked like the family had rolled out of bed and left,BUT , it sold in two days for the asking price. Would I have moved the airer? Yes, I would, but based on my neighbour, I don't think it matters in the long run.

HairyBum · 26/05/2022 07:49

Clearly an elderly person and a house with potential.

carefullycourageous · 26/05/2022 07:52

These threads are nasty. That's someone's home, you don't know what's happening.

EinsteinaGogo · 26/05/2022 07:54

It's been a very loved and cared for home, that's clear.

The decoration and wallpaper, borders, pictures, ornaments, have all been chosen over decades.

They would have been lovely in their time. So much insight into normal life over the years.

The estate agent has really let them down by not moving some basic things.

A580Hojas · 26/05/2022 07:55

Terrible photos by the agent, absolutely terrible! Not only because of the laziness in not making some very quick changes to instantly improve the look of the rooms (clothes horse wtf???), but they are also out of focus, taken from terrible angles, just utterly sloppy and lazy.

I'd say the huge amount of tech means younger people are living there.

Some people on this thread really should try and get a handle on what it is actually about rather than getting in an instant froth!
