What is the one spot on earth that took your breath away?

Part inspired by a thread I just read about Switzerland and happy memories of beautiful scenes there.

What is the single most beautiful scene / spot / vista / landscape you've ever seen? Anywhere in the world. Pictures encouraged!

Mine (funnily enough) is not Switzerland but Bavaria. Lake Konigsee. So incredibly picturesque that it doesn't seem real.

(The Matterhorn reflected in a lake up the mountain from Zermatt is a very close second though)

Great thread op.i absolutely adore these threads.

I can't believe I was so close to konigsee but didn't make it .

It's definitely on my list now!
I've heard about it before.

Looking across the harbour towards Hong Kong island at dusk, as the lights of the buildings start coming on. I know it’s a man made view but it’s absolutely breathtaking

A couple of people have mentioned it already but Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays, Australia is truly breathtaking.

The sand is pure white and reflects the sun 100% so it's cool underneath your feet when you walk on it. It's unreal.

Also McKenzie Lake on Fraser Island is pretty special.

No water runs into or out of it. It's formed completely from rainwater and ringed by pure, white sand.

The water is absolutely crystal clear and there are turtles swimming in it.

Lake Tekapo, NZ, with the Church of the Good Shepherd, the lupins in bloom, and Aoraki/Mt Cook rising majestically behind the lake. Just perfection.

Lake Bled in Slovenia, with the beautiful island in the middle.

A mountain pass in Norway, on the way to Geiranger Fjord. I can't remember the name, but driving up through the mountains with a sheer drop to the side, clear blue skies, and a little bit of misty cloud adding mystery was a wonderful experience.

I thought you had quoted me for a second and then just realised we appreciate the same spits!

Glacier Point in Yosemite
I'm well travelled and there it literally no other view that can compete
in my opinion

But I also have to mention the three stunted oak woods in Dartmoor - Black A Tor, Wistman's and Piles Copse
Bryce Canyon

Lucky Bay in Australia

I used to have an absolutely stunning landscape very close to my home in south east England. I'd walk past a small street many times a day and catch a glimpse of it and feel so lucky and privileged to see it. It was green hills and fields with lush trees and scattering of roof tops.

Hahoe village near Andong in Korea.
There’s a beautiful river with a sort of beach one side and a cliff on the other. Just sitting looking at the river and a traditional Hanok house in the distance was so uplifting.
We can’t wait to go back there.

I lived in HK for many years. A hot, polluted shithole at times. But I totally get you.

I’ll never forget stumbling across the main square in Siena, Italy. Literally stumbled on it.

The first time I walked into Disneyworld and looked up at the castle 🙃 I nearly cried! 🥲

Entering Venice by boat and also a helicopter ride above Dubai stunning too.

Going to Yosemite and Big Sur in California this year and Iceland later in the year too so hopefully will have some (more sophisticated) breathtaking views to looking forward to 😬

Crackingowlsanctuary · 26/05/2022 17:53

Also I must admit I was really awe-struck when I first visited the Lake District. Absolutely stunning scenery. I wasn’t expecting it to be so amazing.
