So awful 😞

ineedsun · 24/05/2022 22:18

Where did you see 14 kids killed? BBC says 13 kids taken to hospital and 2 adults killed.

Eeiliethya · 24/05/2022 22:18

Fucking primary school. Children between 5-11 years old.

Made me feel sick to my stomach. Those poor children. And their parents. No words.

I can’t stand this about the US. I cannot bloody stand it. Their gun laws are fundamentally wicked, and the gun lobby has the politicians in their pockets, and damn the rotten to the core lot of them.

I’ve not seen the news, but am welling up just thinking about it.

berksandbeyond · 24/05/2022 22:19

Americans don't care, they value their guns over their humans, that much is quite clear.
Empty thoughts and prayers and it'll happen again next month.
There is not enough money in the world that would convince me to bring my daughter up in America.

Mumwantingtogetitright · 24/05/2022 22:23

I'm barely even shocked by these any more.

What happened in Texas is awful, and I'm truly sorry for all of the families who have lost loved ones, but the harsh truth is that it will happen again and again if they don't do something to stop it.

There doesn't seem to be the appetite to take any meaningful action to prevent these incidents, and so, sadly, the American people are just going to have to learn to accept the risk to their children's lives as the inevitable price of them retaining the right to bear arms.

Personally, I don't understand why they're haven't been marching in the streets to demand changes to their gun laws, but the majority seem to want to keep things as they are. I feel desperately sorry for the innocent children who lose their lives as a result of this folly, but as a society, that's the choice that they have made. Unfathomable.

Twizbe · 24/05/2022 22:05

And yet they won't change gun laws.

Their right to bare arms is far more important than lives. Disgusting 😡

AllPlayedOut · 24/05/2022 22:25

Hasn’t it been documented that when questioned later killers have said they’d not have sought another weapon if a gun hadn’t been to hand. Yet no one will ban guns.

I'm not convinced of that considering that Japan and China have suffered stabbing attacks in school. I don't think it'd stop them completely but more gun control laws would certainly help. Male violence is the other elephant in the room.

HerRoyalNotness · 24/05/2022 22:28

Bloody hell!

i live in TX and tbh you just have to compartmentalise it. If you spent every day worrying about gun violence you’d drive yourself mad. As it is my school age kids have bullet shields in their backpacks. I have one starting kinder and pondered getting them one too. I guess that’s a yes.

2 days before we break up for summer. Horrific for all those wee kids to experience this and the families of those killed

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 24/05/2022 22:29

Thier rights to own guns have always been more important than loss of life to a lot of Americans .. but what kind of human being walks into a school, a primary school at that and shoots 14 innocent little kids. I can’t even fathom hitting a kid 🥺

DreamingofTimbuktu · 24/05/2022 22:31

Devastatingly sad- but It’s Texas - apparently they must be able to have a gun at any cost, this will inevitably happen again

mbosnz · 24/05/2022 22:33

The main reason I categorically refused to even consider relocating to the States, was that I am somewhat ridiculously attached to the idea that if I send my kids to school, they're not going to come home in a body bag.

And that they should not be fearing that they will come home in a body bag.

Children sacrificed once more to greed, ignorance and evil. The US is a failing state.

The US has one of the highest rates of murder in the world. Japan has one of the lowest. There is no comparison. There have been knife attacks in schools, but nowhere near as many.

SnowyPetals · 24/05/2022 22:35

School in the US is unsafe. And nobody seems to do anything about it. If it weren't a legal requirement, who in their right mind would drop off their kids on a daily basis into an environment with a track record of child killings? Shame on you United States government for your constant fawning over the NRA. May you all rot in hell.

Blinkingbatshit · 24/05/2022 22:35

The US are fucking bonkers - how can they stand by and just keep watching. The NRA should be required to pay compensation to every family involved every time this happens - the blood is on their hands. Despicable excuses for humans.

MayorDusty · 24/05/2022 22:35

I think there are many more injured as well.

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/05/2022 22:36

Mass shootings
need guns for “defence”
commercialised healthcare
No right to basics such as water.

It’s not even a civilised society.

Sharrowgirl · 24/05/2022 22:36

It’s not shocking, it’s entirely predictable and I can’t even be sad about it because America just brings these events on itself.

When nothing happened after Sandy Hook, the debate was over. Once you’ve effectively decided small children being murdered at their desks is an acceptable price for gun ownership, there’s nowhere for the argument to go.

Neverendingdust · 24/05/2022 22:36

Yet even in the face of this hideous tragedy those in favour of guns would still rather die than give up their weapons.

Utterly heartbreaking for all the families affected.
