The Faraway Tree, Water Babies, When Marnie was there (must buy that again!), and one called Ponder and William. I named my childhood bear after him!

Andante57 · 24/05/2022 20:02

National Velvet by Enid Bagnold.
I lived in that book and I can still remember practically every detail many decades later.
I also loved Frances Hodgkin Burnett.
We used to go and stay with relations in Ireland every Easter holidays. My dm would order Enid Blyton books to be sent to our relations’ house in advance and to this day I can remember the excitement of seeing the brown paper parcels waiting for me when we arrived.
That feeling of pleasurable anticipation has never quite been repeated as an adult.

HoollyWugger · 24/05/2022 20:03

Oh, and the Sadler Wells series. Veronica and Sebastian ❤️❤️❤️

seashaken · 24/05/2022 20:03

Monica Edwards was my favourite author. I loved the "Jill" pony books too but can't remember who wrote them.

powershowerforanhour · 24/05/2022 20:04

As a pre schooler I insisted on borrowing 'dogger' from the library so many times my mum eventually brought a copy!
As an older child I loved Enid blyton secret seven but couldn't stand famous five! Also loved the Mallory towers series.
Then as a teen I loved the chalet school books- still have the complete set collected over many years, mostly 2nd hand and some were quite expensive to buy.
