Essex people and Dubai

Why Does everyone From Essex always seem to go on holiday to Dubai?
it's so common now it's become tacky. On a serious note tho, it's a concrete jungle. If you want sun and beach why not go to The Carribean for example!?

At least Dubai is guaranteed sun and heat, which is a blessing in itself when you live in a dark country with no sunlight part of the year. So that is a plus!

CambsAlways · 24/05/2022 20:47

Why does it bother you so much! Weird post!

@EssexCat not for much longer I fear. Two houses in my street have gone on the market for £1.1m and £1.4m this week. These are 4 bed 1930's detatched with postage stamp gardens. I'll be amazed if they go for that but there has been an increase in prices since lockdown because of people leaving London.

Quick we need more threads like this one perpetuating the Essex stereotype then! We want people to be put off!!

Branleuse · 24/05/2022 20:59

Ive lived in Essex for decades. I love it where I am. Its nothing like the Towie stereotypes where I am. Such lazy stereotypes

Never been to Dubai and I have no intention of ever going

Gauche!

I last heard that word uttered by my dad, circa 1987, when we went to buy some dining chairs but they were covered in red velvet.

Petrifiedtossed · 24/05/2022 21:16

thats what a lot of chairs in these towie dining rooms look like

It does not matter whether or not you come from Essex. P+O Ferries are effectively owned by an arm of the Dubai government. A country where homosexuality is still illegal.

Lizziekisss · 24/05/2022 21:34

I live in Kent, my neighbours been to Dubai. My eldest now lives in a gorgeous part of Essex, their house cost a fortune though.

SomeoneBurntTheToastAgain · 24/05/2022 21:36

Lol. All these British people bemoaning Dubai being built on slavery… whilst living in England, with its rich history of exploitation colonialism. 😂

Well it's hardly comparable is it, you can't help where you're born and moving abroad isn't a viable option for many people. 🙄

I know what you mean OP. These are also the people who drive white range rovers and have veneers.

LabradorsInThePond · 24/05/2022 22:02

I’m not from Essex, but for easy access to the City, we now live in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It’s a not very well kept secret that Uttlesford, The Colne Valley, The Stour Valley are very, very nice places to live. Having worked in RM8 when we lived in London, I assure you it’s a very, very different Essex.

We holiday at our chalet in the Alps, winter and summer. I’d melt in the Middle East. I don’t know anyone about here who holidays I. Dubai, but Oman is quite popular ( and gorgeous, by all accounts).

Hello. I am near you. I swim in the Stour.

You would have to drag me kicking and screaming to Dubai. Not somewhere I can see myself (morally and ethically) choosing to holiday. We all make our own choices though and what's important to me may not be for the next person.
Can't say I've noticed it have much to do with being from Essex though. Favoured by WAGS and reality TV stars, sure. They tend to be from all over though, not just Essex.
