Why Does everyone From Essex always seem to go on holiday to Dubai?
it's so common now it's become tacky. On a serious note tho, it's a concrete jungle. If you want sun and beach why not go to The Carribean for example!?

I am in Essex, never been to Dubai and no wish to holiday there. Don’t know anyone who has been on holiday there either,

‘Essex people’? Essex is one of the most populous counties in England so this is a very vague term. Just to let you know, many of us are nothing like TOWIE (fairly obvious I would have thought….) I live there and only know one fellow Essex resident who has recently visited dubai. It wouldn’t be my choice of holiday but this woman went there because it was hot and that’s difficult to find in Feb half term. I think there have been some good deals on recently. You come across as very ignorant in your op fyi.

Have a quick google search of 'Dubai potty'. A lot of Essex Instagram influencers go there to work as sexual slaves as such in return for money. I thought it was pretty common knowledge.

@NotThisWeekSatan my town is on the coast and is loved by the Towie fans but they come to visit for day trips at weekends rather than live here. During the week it's very "naice" and quite arty. People move here for the excellent schools.

I was born in the north east, grew up in the south east, went to university in the midlands, lived in London/suburbs for 12 years then moved to the continent. Wherever am I 'from' I enjoyed trips to Dubai 20 years ago when a relative lived there but not sure if I would now. I'd prefer somewhere quieter.

I've lived in Essex for 20 years and wouldn't dream of holidaying in Dubai. Seems tacky and boring if you don't like shopping. Also I wouldn't travel anywhere with such an appalling human rights record. I don't know anyone else locally who has been there either. The only friend of mine who has been to Dubai is my privately-educated rich London one.

I see your point OP. I've never been but the first episode of a recent series on it was enough to put me off.

It's very similar to the package holiday we went on to Kos last year. We usually go to Catalonia but the Covid testing at the time cost almost £1000, so we went with an inclusive deal instead.

The resort was beautiful but it was completely fake (ie irrigated so it looked incredibly lush) and the rest of the island was so poor, dry and barren, and all the staff seemed so depressed, overworked and exploited. Never again.

Where we usually go is full of Barcelonian weekend/holiday homes, so it exists beyond tourism.

They don't have the Made in Riyadh or The only way is Jeddah, so it probably isn't in your radar but Saudi is top of the tourism pops for Dubai.
