Accents that tickle your fancy

Just went for a coffee with a friend who's newly dating a guy from France and is obsessed with his accent, thinks it's sexy.

I'm just outside of London and so is DP and we're from the same town and so I don't even register that he has an accent but people (usually from more northern regions) have commented that he has a very 'cockney london' accent.

I'm a bit of a sucker for a geordie or Scottish accent on a guy. What about everyone else?

'Scottish' is collective, so I think yes, you did.

For people very unfamiliar with certain accents they can sound similar.
As a foreigner I am starting to differentiate different Scottish accents now, but still sometimes confuse them with northern Irish accent... My Irish boss and the Texas singer sound very similar to me.

I agree that a country's accents can sound broadly similar until you've really developed an ear to the differences. To us our accent is wildly different to that of someone who lives 200 miles away, but other people can't always hear it.

I think she means Sharleen Spiteri rather than someone from Texas, America.

I remember seeing a programme where they said Scottish singers sang in American accents until The Proclaimers came along but I could always hear their accent. And they had obviously never heard of Andy Stewart.

But by that rule and to stick to the OP, not all French accents are the same either! And you can like the general french accent.

@Kione is she from Northern Ireland? They use a lot of words in common with Scotland which might be what you're picking up on.

Geordie and Liverpudlian. Altho not averse to Scottish too.
