Songs that should be banned from radio request shows

I love a radio listeners request show for opportunities to hear long forgotten but amazing songs.

I find it such a wasted opportunity when people ring in and ask for the same, obvious things and if i was the host, I would have a ban list. First song on it would be:

Don't Stop Me Now by Queen

Any others to add?

I would add anything by Queen especially Bohemian Rhapsody.

Derrymum123 · 22/05/2022 10:01

I would add Jolene by Dolly Parton. Can't stand the sentiments and it is like an ear worm 🪱 all day after I have heard it.

Antarcticant · 22/05/2022 10:02

'I haven't heard it for ages' on Absolute 80s uses this principle and it's great.

I'd ban 'Sweet Caroline'.

Read the title and instantly thought "Anything by Queen" 😁
I'll add Meatloaf to that. And Bonnie Tyler. Cher. Bryan Adams. There's loads tbh, I could be here all day.

AtillatheHun · 22/05/2022 10:05

Don’t Stip Believing was on one last week. What kind of jam fool calls in with that???

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 10:10

I’m actually struggling with thinking of long forgotten but amazing songs. Hasn’t everyone got a Spotify playlist with all their favourite amazing songs on. 🤷‍♀️

eddiemairswife · 22/05/2022 10:13

'Venus if you will, please send to me a little girl to thrill'. I heard this at a Dickie Valentine concert over 50 years ago and it didn't sound right even then.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 22/05/2022 10:41

Anything by Adele

AnyFucker · 22/05/2022 10:42

Come On Eileen. I fucking hate that racket.

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 10:56

Love Shack. Should definitely be long forgotten.

SabbyD · 22/05/2022 11:00

Anything by the chubby one from take that

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/05/2022 11:05

Lady in Re-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed ....

And I-ay-ay-ay-ay will always love you-ou-ou-ou ...

And all the other power ballads, if that's what they are.

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 22/05/2022 11:46

Oh. I came on this thread expecting something else entirely. I love many of the songs you have mentioned.

I'd ban rapey 'Blurred lines'

iklboo · 22/05/2022 11:48

The Boys Are Back In Town. Always requested when 'the lads' are going out on the lash.

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 11:57

I haven’t heard ‘Blurred Lines’ for years. I guess you have to listen to a lot of radio that plays old stuff.
I listen to Radio One even though it’s not meant for me at all. Blush

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 22/05/2022 12:06

Oh, definitely Bohemian Rhapsody, and Imagine. What sort of person genuinely thinks "Do you know what I haven't heard in ages and ages? Imagine. And I'm not going to just open up Spotify or YouTube and listen to it by myself, I'm going to call Steve Wright and insist that he plays it to the nation. Everyone will be so impressed by my originality and outside-the-box thinking".

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 12:07

We could make a Spotify ‘Songs I never want to hear ever again’ playlist from this thread. 😂

GirlCrushxxx · 22/05/2022 12:11

Anything from the greatest showman!!!

LeonardoAcropolis · 22/05/2022 12:13

Africa by Toto. Bloody hate it and just the opening chords are enough to make me want to smash my radio.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/05/2022 12:15

I wish to veto Jolene from this list because it is an awesome song and cannot be played too often.

cato75 · 22/05/2022 12:40

I'd ban 'I wanna dance with somebody' and 'Wake me up before you go go'.

MintyMoocow · 22/05/2022 12:43

The Wind beneath my Winds..

patronising shite! Can you imagine the sort of person that would say this stuff in real life?

RamSyder · 22/05/2022 12:44

I Just Called To Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder is a fabulous artist but this song is complete dross.
My Sweet Lord - George Harrison
Repetitive repetitive repetitive

Jolene - Dolly Parton
The woman is an icon and can do no wrong.

Purplepurse · 22/05/2022 14:24

"Slipping through my fingers "should be banned during the months of Sept and Oct as parents drop their children for the first time at uni!

dropthevipers · 22/05/2022 14:37

"Imagine". At the time of writing, the author had a climate controlled apartment just to keep his collection of fur coats in top condition. he then includes the line "imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can". Cunt. Lady in Red, just because....
