‘I took in a Ukrainian refugee to live with my wife and me… then ran off with her’

Saw this on twitter and wanted to get thoughts. Don't know how in a tragic situation, some men still prioritise their horniness over everything. His poor wife!

My thoughts OP? The bloke's a nobber. He wanted his bags emptied. There, good enough?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/05/2022 12:48

Hardly a catch, he's gone to live with his parents

Some people don't have any assets to split in the case of a divorce. I think Lornas probably saved herself £550 not having to divorce the creep

ohmyfod · 21/05/2022 12:53

He’s hardly particularly good looking is he, he has no reseeming features.

I hope (and I’m 90% sure) Sofia is playing this twit at his own game and she’ll get rid once she’s got her visa sorted. Good on her if so. And you just know he’ll try going back to Lorna with his tail between his legs.

MiniTheMinx · 21/05/2022 13:00

newusername2009 · 21/05/2022 10:55

For people making harsh comments about Sofia - she is no doubt suffering with trauma and he took advantage of this. She prob clung to him as she was alone - I have no doubt she will regret it - she doesn’t exactly look happy in the photo. It’s so sad

I don't want to be accused of being discriminatory, or stereotyping. So I will try to be balanced in what I am going to say.

When the wall came down, there were millions of Russian women who found themselves without jobs and financial security and the whole Russian Bride market appeared in view. Now, we can make a judgement that is as cynical and calculated as we believe these women to be. They are, and they are not! There are specific cultural, economic and social forces at play that to an extent create a situation where women are looking to secure economic security even quite cynically trying to bag a rich man, an English man, an American,......even one that is already married. Sofia is one such woman, and because her her trauma and desperation for safety, economic security and welfare has bagged herself the first Englishman she stumbled in to. Unfortunately he's a twat, and unfortunately for him Sofia will soon think this too. What I disagree with newusername2009 is your statement that she will regret it. I don't think she will. In fact it may be the most rational and sensible thing to do in her situation, and as cynical and calculating as that is, she doesn't look unhappy because she regrets getting with him, but because she is forced into a situation where she feels it was necessary. However, my experience of eastern European women is that they struggle to like other women because the game to bag a man is competitive and she won't be carrying any guilt over this. But again, might be better for people to remember that we can not judge others by our own values. Her behaviour of "stealing" a man shouldn't be viewed singularly through the lense of righteous indignation from our comfortable sofas in a country that hasn't seen war or upheaval since 1945.

I hope she gets her visa and makes a good life for herself.

I don't think the sun should have printed this story for no other reason other than the fact that this young woman is vulnerable and is now going to be subject to the vitriol of thousands of "wives"

icelolly12 · 21/05/2022 13:01

Got to say I'm not surprised. Inviting a young attractive woman who is vulnerable to live with you will turn a lot of men's head. Or maybe I'm just cynical.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 21/05/2022 13:15

Nothing odd here. Plenty of men shop online for a young pretty woman hoping to escape a poor country, or in this case a war. That's what this hero did on social media. Dump the present partner and children, start up with a shiny new one. Until she finds something better and moves on. I just hope the dumped partner and children get decent child support.

MayorDusty · 21/05/2022 09:34

Yeah it's all her fault 🙄

Her not being lovely does not imply this is all her fault.

andtheycalledthewindmoriah · 21/05/2022 13:37

Her not being lovely does not imply this is all her fault.

No criticism of him does though.

Soffit · 21/05/2022 13:48

I suppose there is another side to the story. He is of Slovakian extraction and been immersed in his home culture as a grandchild of immigrants who have taught him the language and kept up traditions. He settles down with a local girl without giving it much thought (there aren't exactly loads of Slovakian women in the UK). However, he feels that there is something missing on the level of cultural identification. This opportunity arises and 'boom!' he has discovered the missing part of the jigsaw and will stake his life on making it work.

The problem is that it must have crossed his mind while he was selecting which one to invite to come and live with them. He would have chosen with the hope that something might happen which is predatory. Otherwise, he would have hosted a bloke or a kindly granny. I think that his wife has to shoulder some responsibility in that she could/should have seen it coming and strongly influenced the choice of guest.

It probably would have happened in a less dramatic way once the pool of UK resident Ukrainians widened. It never took much persuading. He has the best of both worlds now. Kids living locally and a hot, intelligent, young girlfriend of similar home culture to him. She will probably dump him and he will move onto another Ukrainian woman.

Bit of a disingenuous premise for a post op. “Wanted to get thoughts” - can you honestly say that you thought some people might come on and say “yeah, I think this is great, fair play, wish them all the best etc”? Seems like a thinly veiled attempt to stir up anti-refugee sentiment.

To me it seems more like anti-sleazy men, sympathy with refugees. No?

Yes it is completely anti sleazy men. I'm sorry I can't find it in me to place any blame on the 22 year old single woman who has just left her home in such circumstances. I'm just disgusted that any man would think this was appropriate behaviour towards his wife, his children and the refugee he offered to house

It's strange DP and I was talking about this happening this week. DP is a mixed heritage from a neighboring country.
There's a huge divide culturally between English women and Eastern European women. It's huge.
It'll be all smiles til they have their first argument.😂

He looks like a prize dongle though.😂

KettrickenSmiled · 21/05/2022 13:57

He settles down with a local girl without giving it much thought (there aren't exactly loads of Slovakian women in the UK).
Yeah, my grandfather is Irish, & I settled down with a local boy without giving it much thought. Because third generation Britons are local boys & girls themselves - who'd have thunk it?!
Does that give me carte blanche to move a hot young Irishman into my marital home, shag him senseless under my husband's nose, & then be excused for dumping my kids & running off with him, due to cultural immersion?

I think that his wife has to shoulder some responsibility in that she could/should have seen it coming and strongly influenced the choice of guest.
Sure, it's always the wife's fault when her sleazeball H fucks his OW. If only she'd told him not to!
PS - she told him not to move this woman in. Just like she objected to having one of her DD's turfed out of her own bedroom. Guess what? Our Hero ignorned her. But ... this is the wife's responsibility? OK dude.

Iwonder08 · 21/05/2022 09:33

What a lovely person that Sofia girl is.. This family opened their home for her and she hooked up with the husband.

Yeah it’s nothing to do with that poor man. All he did was invite her in against the wishes of his current partner and encourage her to depend on him as her only friend. I mean, it’s hardly as though he was deliberately taking advantage of a vulnerable younger woman who’s just escaped from a war zone. Hmm

Soffit · 21/05/2022 14:05

"Because third generation Britons are local boys & girls themselves - who'd have thunk it?!"
I think that complete immersion often happens in the case of Irish immigrants as an exception to the rule. I have European heritage and that still dominates after several generations. I would think that it would be even stronger for many non-European families.

CupidStunt22 · 21/05/2022 14:08

MayorDusty · 21/05/2022 09:34

It isn't not her fault.

I hope she comes out of this ok too.

And most ‘wives’ with even the tiniest inkling of common sense will see this situation for exactly what it is. A disgusting, leech of a conniving man abandoning his young family to take advantage of a vulnerable, traumatised woman.

I8toys · 21/05/2022 14:12

The shame of the pair of them posing like he's not split up his family. And giving the story to the papers not even thinking of his wife and kids. I give it 6 months. Enjoy living with your parents again!

LuaDipa · 21/05/2022 14:14

CupidStunt22 · 21/05/2022 14:08

It isn't not her fault.

It is categorically not her fault.

She’s just escaped from a war zone. She’s experienced trauma that we can’t begin to imagine. You can’t blame her from grabbing on to any opportunity to ensure she remains secure and supported.

I can and do blame the twat that broke up his family because he can’t keep it in his pants. She was the first person that came up my arse. You can bet your bottom dollar he wouldn’t have been as keen to move a little elderly lady in.

TheVanguardSix · 21/05/2022 14:16

It'll all end in tears... and by then, his former wife's eyes will have long dried. She's well shot of him.

Staffy1 · 21/05/2022 14:17

Sofia has done Lorna a huge favour, relieving her of this twerp.

BraveryBot9to5 · 21/05/2022 14:18

Who knows if this story is real but a lot of unhealthy men with a white knight complex want to be a saviour and I can well believe they have used this scheme as a dating app. They want to be a rescuing hero. That is their buzz. They will be capitalising on the vulnerability of a woman who cannot say, ofgs, really, would you ever just fuck off.

roarfeckingroarr · 21/05/2022 14:19

They're both to blame. But then, when has someone with neck and face tattoos ever shown good judgment?

KettrickenSmiled · 21/05/2022 14:20

Soffit · 21/05/2022 14:05

& you think that's a fine excuse to decide to move your OW into the family home, abandon your DC, then plaster the shameful stunt all over the gutter press?

Blimey, this cultural immersion has a lot to answer for ...

crosstalk · 21/05/2022 14:21

BTW The Times also carried a piece in its Ireland section about sex traffickers getting in on the act. The Sun as ever is doing its egregious thing but the threat to young women is clearly there.
