‘I took in a Ukrainian refugee to live with my wife and me… then ran off with her’

Saw this on twitter and wanted to get thoughts. Don't know how in a tragic situation, some men still prioritise their horniness over everything. His poor wife!

I work for a council and our local coordinator told me it’s ridiculous the amount of single men registering to offer accommodation to single women only, specifying single no kids. So there’s quite a few guys out there trying to take advantage of this in some way.

This one is particularly abhorrent. I’d love to hear the wife’s side and also while absolutely not entirely innocent, remember this is a young woman torn from everything she knows in traumatic circumstances finding someone who can speak to her a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some form of trauma bonding and I’d also love to know what he has told her.

Yep, men are doing this... the UN has warned about it www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/uk-government-homes-government-home-office-b2057386.html%3famp
Odd that some are minimising this or writing it off as the Sun trying to stir against refugees. Yes the Sun are being scum, but by paying the sleazy man for him selling his side of the story, not for drawing attention to sleazy men's behaviour.

YetAnotherNameChange111 · 21/05/2022 10:51

He's traded down there for sure

His ex however can only trade up, even if she stays single

KettrickenSmiled · 21/05/2022 10:54

Tony signed up to the Government refugee homing scheme as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine intensified. But he found the application process too slow so took to social media to offer help.

"Tony's blue balls were giving him hell, & he was scared that in his haste, he'd accidentally pick a minger. Social media helped him refine his selection to a cohort of 20-something pouting lovelies. The he scored Sophia!
She'd better please him, as you can be sure he still has a bevy of desperate beauties saved on his app."

What a lovely person that Sofia girl is.. This family opened their home for her and she hooked up with the husband.

Shes literally just escaped from Nazi 2.0 occupation, probably lost everything, maybe friends have been murdered, and the supposed safe haven waiting for her in the UK is really a predatory male ready to completely exploit her vulnerability and probably desperate need for some security to hold on to. It's disgusting, a complete abuse of the situation. Don't blame Sofia.

newusername2009 · 21/05/2022 10:55

For people making harsh comments about Sofia - she is no doubt suffering with trauma and he took advantage of this. She prob clung to him as she was alone - I have no doubt she will regret it - she doesn’t exactly look happy in the photo. It’s so sad

Reads like something from readers wives.
He sounds like an absolute dick. As if it's not bad enough starting an affair in the family home, he then broadcasts it to the world, when it's likely still pretty raw for his ex, rubbing salt in the wounds.

I expect he needed the cash.
A new love nest, plus a wife & kids back home, doesn't come cheap.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/05/2022 10:56

sofia cannot bear the blame for this,
she will move on

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 21/05/2022 10:56

If I roll my eyes any harder I’ll sprain something. Good luck Lorna I hope you find a real man

The poor 'wife' isn't married to sleazebag. She'd changed her name to his by deed pole and was his partner in a 10 yr relationship, with a 6yr old and a 3yr old. She has few rights in this mess.

Ah - that's different.

Totally OK to treat her and his kids like sh!t in that case.

I'm guessing not one other country is treating the concept of Ukrainian refugees with such a disgusting spin. I'm really ashamed by all this actually, it's horrible.

SW1amp · 21/05/2022 11:03

It’s weird because I would have thought someone with fucking tear drops tattooed on their face would have really good judgement…

pigsDOfly · 21/05/2022 11:04

Has no one else noticed how incredibly alike the two women look.

Put a blonde wig on Lorna, change her make up and it could be the same woman.

It's probably just a load of rubbish cooked up by the Sun.

As someone upthread said, they probably just want to get all their 'readers' riled up about these 'Ukrainian women who come into our British homes and steal our British men'.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 21/05/2022 11:04

Why are people who offer homes not DBS checked at the very very least?

The poor girl was in a very vulnerable situation and shocked that there are no checks being done on people who offer homes, and lack of support.

flipper97 · 21/05/2022 11:06

Would take a heart of stone not to laugh 😆

Irishfarmer · 21/05/2022 11:06

Why did he go to the papers with it? Even if he really wasn't happy like the new woman says why would you do that and drag everyone through national papers!!

His poor partner (not wife, she changed her name by deed poll).

'Parked in the car looking out over the city' my arse!!! Having a quickie before going home.

iex · 21/05/2022 11:07

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/05/2022 10:39

“It’s been very quick but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me but it happens. I could see how unhappy Tony was.”

Oh bless - she's done this as an act of charity towards this unhappy man. The woman is a saint.

I'll bet this has been going on online long before she got here. They are both a pair of tossers.

actually you could be right - 10 days is really quick to decide to leave your partner and kids

"He said: “I wanted to do the right thing and she (Sofiia) just happened to be the first person to get in touch after I joined Facebook groups for people willing to house refugees."
first person, apart from Andriy, Bohdan, Bohuslav, Borysko, Boyko, Danylo, Dmytro and Fedir, and the 3 Ukrainian grandmothers, but yeah she happened to be the first (young single woman) to get in touch Hmm

BaybeeTammy · 21/05/2022 11:08

Hello

KettrickenSmiled · 21/05/2022 11:09

Lorna, who changed her surname by deed poll to match Tony’s but is not married to him

FFS. It gets worse. Poor Lorna. Left with all the responsibility & the bills, & the humiliation of having her face & her DD's details smeared all over that shitrag.

Like a PP upthread, I'm ashamed of Britain's gutter press.

Gudbrand · 21/05/2022 11:09

I wondered that too... emotional affair going on since he "found" her on social media and agreed to be his support person.
He's a sleaze.
Obviously couldn't give a shit about his partner's needs and wants, and very few shits about his kids too. I really don't see why a six year old should be made to move out of their room so that he can take in a refugee.
The idea was that refugees would be housed in spare rooms or empty accommodation, not uprooting children from their bedrooms.
I'm not saying that every child has to have their own bedroom, nothing wrong with sharing, but moving them when there is no need to is not on.

Sofia is not entirely blameless. She knew he was in a long term relationship with the mother of his two children and still behaved like this, in front of Lorna. However, I can imagine him spinning her a load of lines about how unhappy he was in his relationship, his partner "controls" him, he loves her but isn't in love with her, they were too young and he got trapped when they had children..... this sort of random stuff that sleaze bags come up with to justify their behaviour.

What would DBS have picked up in this case?

They can't check for sleaze

Sadly, there is no DBS check for "predatory sleazebag."

Onwards22 · 21/05/2022 11:12

The Sun is a good newspaper………..for wiping your arse on.

I agree.

It’s concerning how many posters seem to believe this story is real.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/05/2022 11:13

I hope she's using him and dumps him once she's settled in the UK.
