What would you expect a "bottomless brunch" to be?

Girly weekend away, bottomless brunch suggested, at around £20 per head. All agreed. Ended up being £12 more.

What would you expect from it?

The restaurant im going to for dinner tonight has a bottomless prosecco dinner deal... main course and prosecco for 2hrs for £30. Main course are in the £15-£20 ball park. Surcharge for steak.

In our area that is pretty standard cost for a nice dinner out. (Yorkshire!)

LouisCatorze · 20/05/2022 12:57

I'd say bottomless should be as much food and drink as you'd like. But as prices increase, I can imagine there's less and less profit to me made, unless you cap consumption in some way.

KatherineJaneway · 20/05/2022 12:58

One or two dishes from the menu and alcohol unlimited but within a time limit i.e. 1.5 hours

Lavenderlast · 20/05/2022 13:01

I’ve only been to one and that was 15 years ago. Cost £100.

Breakfast in a nice hotel now costs about £15.

’Bottomless brunch’ for £20?! I’d expect either
(a) unlimited amounts of ok breakfast food and a glass of nice wine, or
(b) a small breakfast, up to six glasses of very cheap and nasty wine, and a sandwich lunch.

🤷‍♀️

AledsiPad · 20/05/2022 13:03

I understand it to mean a brunch/breakfast meal with unlimited alcoholic drinks for a set period.

I had to explain this to DH recently when he suggested it as a fun idea for us, he thought the food was bottomless. He was most upset to find it wouldn't be and now thinks they are 'false advertising' and he's fuming! Grin

ivykaty44 · 20/05/2022 13:07

standing up eating and drinking for a couple of hours

CornishGem1975 · 20/05/2022 13:11

A light brunch dish, bottomless prosecco for about 1.5 hours. But £20 is very very very cheap. I've never had one under about £30

stuntbubbles · 20/05/2022 13:17

Fascinated by some of the more outlandish interpretations of brunch here: sandwiches? Standing up?

skybluee · 20/05/2022 13:19

I've never heard of it. I feel out of the loop :(.
Obviously I've heard of brunch, the way it was phrased I'd have guessed the food was unlimited like the breakfasts at places like Toby Carvery or somewhere you go and help yourself, but I see I'm wrong! It's not really a bottomless brunch, is it? It's more like a happy hour offer.

mizzo · 20/05/2022 13:21

Unlimited food either from a buffet, a menu selection or platters brought to the table. Usually more focused on the breakfast side of things rather than the lunch element although I have been to a pizza one.

Unlimited drinks usually cocktails from a set list, Prosecco, wine and beer as well as non alcoholic options.

There's usually a time limit, sometimes entertainment in the form of a tribute band or drag act, sometimes a theme to the food and drink, sometimes people dress up.
I'd expect to pay £30-£50 depending on the location and what's offered and I'd expect to be at home sleeping it off by tea time!

mam0918 · 20/05/2022 13:22

I would check as everywhere I looked varied.

Some where 1 hour, some 90 minutes, some 2 hours.

Somewhere basic breackfast food and prosecco/bellinis where as some where pizza and burgers and included beer, cider and cocktails.

one I looked at even included a game (like crazy golf or bowling).

Some have upgrade options on food (upgrade to a main meal from breakfast menu) and/or drink (upgrade to martinis or craft beers).

not sure why people are saying tea and coffee only though, I have never seen that on a bottomless brunch... thats something places like weatherspoons offer for like £4 not a £20+ bottomless brunch lol.

So I wouldnt assume, I would check... personally I think some are really limited and overpriced.

MagneticRubberDucks · 20/05/2022 13:25

Bottomless brunch is pretty much always a breakfast type dish and unlimited cheap Prosecco.
There is usually an option to add cocktails for an increase in price.
They are usually rubbish cocktails made with cheap spirits.

For some reason my friendship group really enjoys them as an activity, I don’t get it, but I also hate Prosecco.
(I’ve been too too many of them and they are almost always rubbish)

mam0918 · 20/05/2022 13:27

also you only get one food... in these deals 'Bottomless' refers to alcohol, 'Buffet' refers to food, they are different things.

Noisyprat · 20/05/2022 13:27

These days I don't trust anything. Looks like a bargain - look at the smallprint, getting something free - no you aren't there's a catch.

In this scenario, eat as much as you like of the crappy cheap greasy buffet, want anything decent like a fresh cook poached egg or a cup of speciality coffee, add £££££.

My experience is that 9 times out of 10 you are better seeking an independent restaurant/breakfast place and choosing and paying for whats on the menu and adding extras as defined.

roarfeckingroarr · 20/05/2022 13:28

A choice of brunch foods with unlimited Prosecco or mimosas for 2 hours

Bunce1 · 20/05/2022 13:28

A meal from the menu- so French toast or eggs Benedict, or what have you.

then unlimited drinks that were on the deal- usually Prosecco. Other drinks might be available but if there were not in the deal
then they would be extra.

balalake · 20/05/2022 13:30

Unlimited food but some limit on the available drinks.

Or in my case, something to avoid altogether.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 20/05/2022 13:33

What this has meant when I've gone to them is, food ordered off the menu, plus unlimited prosecco but within limits, for 2 hours or so.

givemetoddlersanyday · 20/05/2022 13:35

AnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 20/05/2022 11:49

Food of questionable quality, ditto the prosecco.

I hate the whole concept and would rather have one glass of decent fizz I have chosen myself.

You said it for me.

whynotwhatknot · 20/05/2022 13:35

Theyre all different now once upon a time it was unlimited food and drink now its pick one thing and we'll give you some drink with clauses thats its only one bottle or something annoying

Intrigueddotcom · 20/05/2022 13:38

what would I expect?

for something to be utterly unappealing to me on every level (other than to be with friends)

pussycatlickinglollyices · 20/05/2022 13:43

for £32 in total???
I'd expect to be able to eat and drink all day and feel enormously happy and fat before I fell asleep...and then have supper.

If it's a stale croissant and a sip of not champagne cat pee, I'd feel bloody cross hungry and overcharged.

AryaStarkWolf · 20/05/2022 13:43

I wouldn't have a clue, did none of you check what the "bottomless" part was first?

warofthemonstertrucks · 20/05/2022 13:43

Three dishes to choose from for breakfast and unlimited Prosecco

PuzzledObserver · 20/05/2022 13:45

I’m clearly out of step with the modern world.

I would expect a buffet of breakfast and brunch foods with limitless tea, coffee and juices. Would not expect alcohol.
