I think Cummings is just like Johnson, saving his own skin and enjoying the attention, power.

He put Johnson in no10.

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2022 21:13

Johnson settled in with his 80 seat majority, a cabinet almost exclusively promoted because of general willingness to make tits of themselves covering up for him and new backbenchers who believe they owe their seat to him.

So he thinks he can ride any scandal out regardless of the cost to the party (let alone the nation).

DC refers to Johnson as an out of control 🛒 - brainless and moves only at the whim of others?

the80sweregreat · 23/05/2022 21:17

Oh yes, I remember the trolley reference now!
Thanks

This is what we were told by Johnson a few days before Nov 13th

And Boris is quite correct. He did not slacken his resolve to do as he pleased, get pissed at work and enrich his mates. It is just a wonder no one else read it like that at the time.

Yes, he is a horrible character, to be fair.

For those asking about Clav, they're on another thread at the moment.

Continuing their promotion of the opposition quite successfully.

I don't understand why this was not investigated given other events were investigated. How does the Met ever successfully prosecute anyone???

As far as I can tell, they asked Boris if he’d been to any illegal parties, and he said “no” so that was the end of it. Other people at the same parties said “yes”, so they were fined.

Who knew it was so easy to get let off FPNs? Next time I get a parking ticket I’ll just say “that line doesn’t look yellow to me” and I’m sure I’ll be let off.

Roussette · 23/05/2022 21:32

*People still defend the government though, I know many who do this too. People who are very pro Boris Johnson

I know a couple of people like this too. It's weird. The defence/arguments are soooo bad.
Basically....
'they are all the same'. No, they're not. There are some good MPs out there
'No one cares about Partygate'. Yes they do
'All of Labour are awful and don't know what they're doing'. They are not in power so how do you know?
And more like that

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 23/05/2022 21:41

I know so many people who are either bored about partygate , or just relived that Labour isn't in power.
I can see all points of view , but if this had been a Labour PM doing all the things Boris Johnson has done they would be gone by now.
Lots of people still think they are doing a good job. Many friends and family.
It is a mystery, but maybe the conservatives are but a cult. It was the same in the 80s too , Mrs Thatcher was worshipped by many people and still is.
I still believe they could win the next election too despite it all.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 23/05/2022 21:42

I've just seen that the Good Law Project is launching legal proceedings against the Met in light of the photo and their failure to properly investigate.

Spoke to the MIL about this earlier, she is a Tory voter. The replies were "imagine how much worse things would have been with Corbyn" and "he seems to have done a good job with Brexit". The greased piglet can do no wrong in some voters eyes.

Just the sort of drivel some posters come out with on here on the apologist bingo card.

Boris Johnson pictured drinking at No 10 lockdown event
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61557064

Surely on the day that we also have a Tory Ex-MP being sent to prison for sexual assault of a child, have had a porn watching Tory MP kicked out of Parliament (rightly) and yet trying to get back in (sorry not sorry, then) and the PM is pictured in new images boozing in a ‘meeting’ while people were dying alone in lockdown…. it’s just enough. It’s way, way more than enough now. He just must resign. Parliament feels absolutely tainted by all this. How can Tories defend keeping on such a party leader?

And isn't it ironic that they are nowhere to be seen when there's incontrovertible evidence like the partying picture of today.

No defence.

There is another conservative MP being investigated for historic allegations too.

Yes, he is a horrible character, to be fair.

Well yes, but he is helping to pour more slop onto the government currently, one doesn't have to like Cummings to be able to enjoy some of the things he says (well, tweets).

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2022 22:02

As predicted U-turn on Windfall tax incoming. Presumably an attempt at distraction otherwise they'd have looked at it earlier.

So so so predictable. We knew that would happen.
If I was at those illegal parties and was fined, unlike BJ, I would be leaking pictures

"On a chair sits his red box, and on the table next to him are two bottles of champagne or cava, four bottles of wine and half a bottle of gin."

Looks like a quieter than usual Downing Street Friday night.

Aren't they supposed to take more care of red boxes? Unless it was empty it sounds a bit dangerous having it lying around in the vicinity of loads of booze. Surely it would be a matter of time before someone got sufficiently pissed to think it was funny to nick it or its contents?

Given that 80% of the population is in favour of it they couldn’t do much else. It was pretty obvious that was coming. They’re stealing Labour’s clothes now in the vain hope we won’t notice they haven’t got any of their own. I wonder how they’ll spin it?

Roussette · 23/05/2022 23:16

Headlines tomorrow not looking good for BJ. Hardly surprising....
'Partying PM misled Commons
How did he get away with THIS?
How did Boris not get fined for this booze up?'

They've wheeled out the awful Peter Bone to defend him saying 'it was work'

We're not stupid whatever the likes of him thinks

Here he is answering questions about that party...

twitter.com/ukiswitheu/status/1528761845393285122

He assured Parliament that if there was a party there would be disciplinary action for all those involved. Perhaps he could now enlighten us as to the disciplinary penalty he proposes to impose on himself.

Blossomtoes · 23/05/2022 23:20

If they’ve brought Bone out they’re really desperate.

Roussette · 23/05/2022 23:25

Wheeling out Peter Bone is really an admission that no other Tory MP, let alone no member of the cabinet, is prepared to go public with making a total tit of themselves - because they all know there is no way of defending this without looking an utter idiot. It'll be interesting to see if they can drag Fabricunt or Dorries out from under the parapet; if even they won't face the fire, BJ is seriously in trouble.
