Wakefield by-election will be 23rd June - same day as Tiverton & Honiton.

Why on earth have they tried to cover up who arranged the SG meeting? - why not just argue the PM thought an update was necessary blah blah. Cabinet ministers wheeled out yet again to deflect questions and then find themselves looking either utterly ridiculous or barefaced liars.

I can't imagine they'll publish the minutes of the meeting - they still haven't coughed to the Lebedev papers despite Parliament directing them to.

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2022 16:20

"On a chair sits his red box, and on the table next to him are two bottles of champagne or cava, four bottles of wine and half a bottle of gin."

Looks like a quieter than usual Downing Street Friday night.

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2022 16:21

Sorry - quote from Rousette's ITV story.

Roussette · 23/05/2022 16:23

"All rules were followed
We adhered to all the restrictions
There were no parties
All guidance was followed completely in No.10"

Bollocks to that.
On the table are bottles of fizz, 4 bottles of wine, gin, cups, crisps and food.
He is a liar.

How anyone can justify this, god alone knows. They can't.

Oh whoops... I'm a bit slow on the uptake there!!

ClaudineClare · 23/05/2022 16:33

So this is one of the parties Johnson was not investigated for, is that right?

How can he get away with this?

I think this one he was investigated for but obviously not fined for.

So he will argue therefore it wasn't a party. Other people present did get fined.
Maybe the red box was his work event alibi...

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2022 16:47

Reminder of what he said in Parliament

“Can the prime minister tell the House whether there was a party in Downing Street on 13 November?” asks Labour’s Catherine West

“No, but I’m sure whatever happened the guidance... and the rules were followed at all times,” says the PM

Actually, I might be wrong here.
There 2 events on that day and is unclear which one was investigated

Dashdotdotdash · 23/05/2022 16:51

Well, it was clearly an essential work event, wasn't it. Because during work gatherings people regularly stand up and raise toasts to each other as part of their work.

ClaudineClare · 23/05/2022 16:54

DuncinToffee I think he was only investigated for the Abbagate party in the flat, not the leaving party.

ClaudineClare · 23/05/2022 16:59

The fact that it is not crystal clear what Johnson was and was not investigated for is very troubling.

Anyway, I am sure acolytes will be along soon to explain everything away.

I think you are right.

"Once you've paid the fine, everything is fine"

I've probably misquoted Matt Green but it made me chuckle.

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2022 17:12

I expect Keir's Beer will be making a reappearance soon.....

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2022 17:16

"Impossible to understand how attending, raising a glass and making a speech wouldn't be "participating"

But apparently the Met didn't even send a questionnaire to the PM over this gathering (source: mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…)

Did they have these photographs?"

twitter.com/adamwagner1/status/1528757676246712321?s=21&t=FVDrzRvyzoJ5MIuqt0oiMg

It doesn't sound like Johnson's attendance at this party was investigated.

Mirror reporting that Johnson instigated the gathering.

medianewbie · 23/05/2022 17:24

No 10, & Parliament, is simply an open sewer now, & like an open sewer it reeks!

So true, unfortunately. And the Met is rivalling it.

carefullycourageous · 23/05/2022 17:29

I don't understand why this was not investigated given other events were investigated. How does the Met ever successfully prosecute anyone???

the80sweregreat · 23/05/2022 17:30

It took about three comments in ( daily mail online) for Kier's beer to be mentioned!
They have the Boris Johnson photos etc as the top news story atm.

It is lovely to see the Prime Minister continuing to campaign for the opposition in the upcoming by-elections.

How is his campaign for a united Ireland going? I know it was a key part of his oven ready election manifesto.

I do not know how long you toast someone for, but it is quite clear from the fact that he is drinking whilst in possession of a red box, that it is a works event. Generally toasts last for but a few seconds and it has been made very clear that one cannot break the law for the first 10 minutes one does something.

Blossomtoes · 23/05/2022 17:48

Isn’t it? And very kind of all the Tory MPs to support him in his endeavours.

jgw1 · 23/05/2022 17:51

This is a very important piece of information.

Previously I had understood the Prime Minister's role to be watering the pot plants and providing entertainment at parties. That is why you can see him with a watering can in some photos. But this is a huge development, is he also a diary secretary?

I do hope that some of our regulars who know so much about Johnsons responsibilities are along soon to help us on this question.
