Forget Nostradamus, George Orwell is the one.

So many quotes can be applied to this government.

Work events were also banned weren't they?

I thought so, but as a mere pleb who was trying to do the right thing, what the fuck would I know?

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/05/2022 13:28

Another backbencher going on about the real issues.
Deluded

Ds1 has just messaged me, he normally avoids engaging me in politics, I'm far too opinionated, but he's really not happy.

I saw my son yesterday and he’s beyond furious. We talk politics a lot and tend to agree on most things, although he said yesterday “Yeah Mum, but I’m a proper socialist” 😂

DuncinToffee · 25/05/2022 13:29

Tory MP Aaron Bell asks the Prime Minister whether there's any truth to The Times' reporting that he asked Sue Gray not to publish. PM does not answer the question.

"No denial!", shout the Labour benches.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2022 13:30

I do think it says something about the parliamentary work culture that copious , freely available and frequent alcohol is so normalised that we are supposed to accept that Boris Johnson could believe this was just an ordinary working day thing.

Covid aside, I worry about the level of alcoholism.

newnamethanks · 25/05/2022 13:30

"Under his rule, Downing St has become a cesspit of arrogant, entitled narcissists". Chris Bryant MP.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 13:32

Yes, Mr Bryant, on the money.

The thing that worries me… if there are no consequences, what else is this government going to get away with?

Scary.

Anything they want. Welcome to kleptocracy.

Roussette · 25/05/2022 13:38

I worry about the alcoholism too. The wine fridge, the suitcases of wine, and all of that. Wine Time Fridays. My adult DCs have followed this and can't get over it, they work for massive companies ... the most they've had at a 'leaving speech do' (and not in covid times) is half an inch of lukewarm fizz in a paper cup.
This drinking culture is just beyond a joke. They work for us!

Who the fuck is paying for this booze, krispy kremes, M&S food, posh gin and all of that?

BJ desperately saying again and again 'we have to move on'. He has stopped answering questions totally.

He is being so rude at the moment. He is now irritated with it and basically won't answer questions at all
He is like some on MN. No empathy.

Your human rights, just have a look at the policing bill that Priti Patel is proposing.

newnamethanks · 25/05/2022 13:45

I'm hoping Mr Cummings still has the ultimate pics and is saving them for release just when Boz thinks he's completely exonerated himself. We live in hope. I understand he's quite an unforgiving person.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2022 13:45

"Apologies, but I’m going to keep banging on over this. It was widely perceived the “Abba Party” represented the most egregious Partygate breach. How can Sue Gray possibly justify not even investigating. There’s literally no rationale. It’s not even a cover-up. It’s so blatant."

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2022 13:47

I would imagine that the younger workers and civil servants at number 10 have to pay for their own alcohol and doughnuts. Boris Johnson and co can claim it on expenses ... ?
I've no idea really , but I wonder if that has been addressed ? Who did pay for the ' sundries' ?

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2022 13:48

Why didn't Sue Gray investigate the Abba party then ?

InMySpareTime · 25/05/2022 13:55

I'd love it if someone called for a ban on working day alcohol in Whitehall, Parliament and Downing Street. The resulting alcohol withdrawal would shine a light on the alcohol dependence in the whole place, and sober working might result in some better laws.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2022 13:58

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2022 13:48

Why didn't Sue Gray investigate the Abba party then ?

She stopped investigating when the police got involved and then considered whether to resume and decided against it as she felt it was "not appropriate or proportionate to do so".

Cornettoninja · 25/05/2022 14:00

@InMySpareTime The Houses of Parliament were fairly recently tested for evidence of cocaine - plenty of it iirc.

The lot of them think they’re in Caligula’s cabinet. And I suppose they are.

InMySpareTime · 25/05/2022 14:02

Can't they drug test hair samples? That would sift a lot of the druggy dross from Parliament, but we'd have a heck of a lot of by-elections to deal with.
Remember back in the day when Charlie Kennedy had to give up politics because of his alcoholism? How times have changed.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/05/2022 14:02

He was asked how many ex labour mps he thinks will be attending in the future and replied that the answer is in the Sue Gray report.
What page please? Or is this another (small) lie to parliament?

InMySpareTime · 25/05/2022 14:04

Notice that he absolutely refused to answer questions about whether there was a social gathering in his flat in the November and what might have gone on there.

DuncinToffee · 25/05/2022 14:15

He is a really shit actor, can't do humble, remorseful, apologetic for more than a few seconds

Roussette · 25/05/2022 14:20

He did contrite at one point, with head bowed. It didn't last long. He has been back on the attack.
It's obvious he's not sorry, he doesn't care, unless it affects him and his job of course.
