So...according to the Times, Johnson tried to pressure a principled civil servant to drop her investigation, then lied about the meeting, then said she requested it, then smeared her, and lied yet again.

Do I have that right?

Looks like it.

@DuncinToffee bother, you beat me to the punchline!

It's too easy isn't it Grin

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2022 08:58

From someone whi used to work with Johnson

To work with Boris Johnson is to encounter something dark, sinister and totally without soul. It is a destructive experience that makes you doubt your very sanity. Sympathy therefore for the good people of Whitehall. I found that the only salvation is to tell what you've seen

Shapps didn't do his homework

Grant Shapps has bizarrely claimed Boris Johnson was “clearly not partying” when he raised fizz at a No10 party.

Shapps says PM was in fact mourning his mum...despite the fact Charlotte Johnson Wahl died “suddenly” 10 months after the party happened

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 24/05/2022 09:09

The 'It was a work event' line is really pissing me off. Call it what you like, 'party', 'work event', 'ambushed by alcohol', 'social gathering' or any other unspecified semantics bollocks, it was illegal. We know it, they know it. He needs to go.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2022 09:22

I agree the word party blurs the lines.

The law was if the gathering was reasonably necessary for work.

Was it reasonably necessary for them to have all that food and drink and be in that room for work? Were they discussing covid strategy and how we were going to proceed from the lockdown we were in at the time?

From the nature of the photos I'm guessing not!

I wondered why more hadn’t been invoked surrounding the death of BJ’s mother - probably because the first thought I had was ‘yes, just like thousands of people across the country still obeying the law or at least not responsible for enforcing it’. Probably why it’s largely been avoided tbh.

Well some people seem to worship him so they won't question him mourning his mother's death before it happened. I'm sure they will just believe he knew because, you know, he's Boris.

Weekly wine time Fridays. Started at 4pm. Organised by Johnson's secretary and which he regularly attended.

Well yes, but as Michael Fabricator has explained on very many occasions it is perfectly normal for people in highly stressful jobs to need a drink on a regular basis. I mean just look at the large numbers of nurses and teachers who sometimes stopped for a glass of water without sitting down in the middle of their work.

Roussette · 24/05/2022 13:49

Bloody hell....

So what we have, from insider testimonies is...

  • Calendar invites every friday 4pm for WTF (wine time fridays)
  • People sitting on each others laps and crowded together
  • Some staff staying there all night because it finished so late
  • Staff coming in, in the morning to see wine bottles everywhere, rubbish overflowing, empties all over the tables
  • Such a noisy party on the eve of PP's funeral that security had to tell them to shove off into the garden. They picked up everything, all the booze and food and stayed partying at No.10, it went on so late that many of them stayed the night there.
  • Taking the piss out of anyone who tried to call a halt to it all
They all make me sick. And it comes from the top. You cannot have WTF every Friday at 4pm without the PM knowing.

bbc article

Just waiting for the usual suspects to come and say it was 'work meetings' or the PM has nothing to do with the civil service.

“A Downing Street security guard was mocked when they tried to stop a party...

“He was just shaking his head like, 'This shouldn't be happening'."

"People made fun of him because he was so worked up that this party was happening and it shouldn't be...”

And this is the BBC reporting

The Prime Minister just lives at Number 10 and tends the pot plants.

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2022 14:08

I hope those pot plants are artificial ones

Roussette · 24/05/2022 14:10

Insiders say....

"Everything just continued as normal. social distancing didn't happen. We didn't wear face masks. It wasn't like the outside world."
Another even describes the events as a "lifeline" for staff who were working long hours, especially if they lived alone.
But all three point to the culture set by the prime minister himself, suggesting he "wanted to be liked" and for staff to be able to "let their hair down".
One suggests they felt like they had the prime minister's permission to socialise even it meant breaking the rules because "He was there."
"He may have just been popping through on the way to his flat because that's what would happen," they add. "You know, he wasn't there saying this shouldn't be happening.
"He wasn't saying, 'Can everyone break up and go home? Can everyone socially distance? Can everyone put masks on?'
"No, he wasn't telling anybody that. He was grabbing a glass for himself."

I wonder what supporters of BJ would answer to all of that?

As I have said before... the fish rots from the head down. This proves it categorically.

Handy summary from Led by Donkeys

People stuck to the rules while the PM partied. And his MPs don’t care.

So tomorrow's diary looks full - faux non apology to the House of Commons. Ducking and diving to avoid answering PMQs. Sunak required to sit next to him to absorb some of the shit. Conor Burns on the other side to prod him in to insulting anyone who asks a question. Billy Bunter bluster to 1922. Home in time for cheese & wine.

Thursday Daily Mail headline to be something Brexit flavoured to distract and a heartening Now Let Boris Get On With The Job.
