Definitely the first. It will last a lifetime. The other she will get over as she gets older and won't use it. I have a bracelet I got about 20 years ago when I was very young with the branding never wear it now because of the branding, it's tacky. I'd rather get something they can use forever if it has a meaning behind it rather than something that lasts a couple of years then they don't want flashy. Plus the colour of the second won't go with everything.

I’d rather visit Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter with a £350 budget, likely to find something that’s much better value.

Put it in her pension. She does have a pension @DFOD?😆

My 3 year old does, and quite a number of friends are opening/have opened them for their kids as they can see how the country is going and how absolutely buggered they're going to be. Can't be massively uncommon for a 16 year old, and if she doesn't have one, very simple to open one!

I've got piss all in mine and I know that if someone gave me the choice between giving my 16 year old self a necklace or my older self a couple thousand or so (after growth of the £350ish) in my pension...pretty simple choice!

the 2nd one is very popular with dds group of friends - all 16.

If it were for a 16 year old in my life I would look for an original, handmade pendant. Possibly ethically sourced.

DFOD · 18/05/2022 12:31

She was thrilled and emotional about her gift this morning. Was 100% the right choice for her - so thanks to you all feeding back on 15/16 year olds preferences.

Horses for courses. Sometimes there is much comfort in just being one of the pack at that age vulnerable age. I would have been the opposite and gone for something 100% wacky. I appreciate the financial outlay is in the brand but I am satisfied with my emotional investment. I actually like this piece creatively as it is a retro reinvention of their 1969 key ring - so has a bit of a story.

I am delighted it brought her some joy - she knows it’s a significant financial commitment from us and she bounced off to school v happy into a GCSE English exam - which then didn’t go well……

@DFOD I'm so glad she liked it! Brilliant Grin

blametheparents · 18/05/2022 13:41

Fantastic that she loved it!
Happy Birthday to your DD!

Orchidflower1 · 18/05/2022 16:43

So glad she liked it!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 19/05/2022 16:15

Glad she liked it. Sorry to hear the exam didn’t go to well. Let’s hope the results show otherwise.
dd is mid GCSEs as well and it’s super stressful.
she’ll love wearing it for prom. That’s where dd plans to wear hers as hers is pink and her dress is pink.
there’s nothing wrong with wanting to fit in and have something that everyone else seems to have at that age. Nearly all of us have done it. Remember desperately wanting dr martens and being so happy when my mum brought them for me.

FlamingoDust · 19/05/2022 21:31

I'm glad shep loved it! I hope the rest of her exams go well

FlamingoDust · 19/05/2022 21:35

She not shep!!

You picked the right one - the more overt the better sometimes.

Why don't you ask a 16-year-old girl? How would anyone else know?

BellaVita · 19/05/2022 21:53

DH and I bought DS2’s partner the second one for her 18th. She was over the moon with her gift and always wears it.

Rinatinabina · 19/05/2022 22:14

For a teen the second one, but tbh there are nicer necklaces available and I’m not keen on branding. Take her in to choose.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/05/2022 08:12

OP has already bought and presented the second one and her DD is delighted.

Krabapple · 21/05/2022 08:12

Just seen your update. Glad she liked it. I agree a lot of girls at that age just want to be part of the crowd. Nothing wrong with that - there’s plenty of time to find there own thing as they get older.

Lots of posters in MN will have 16y, or near 16y, children so will be in a position to help, if the OP is trying to keep it a secret, as they were.

OP has now bought it anyway and her dd was delighted, so all is good,

CointreauVersial · 24/05/2022 13:50

What a lovely update!

I have bought the second one (well, similar, but both hearts silver) for DD1's 21st. She specifically requested it. We are also booked to visit the Tiffany Exhibition in Chelsea next month.

@DFOD we went on Friday - it was fab! And on Monday it was DD1's 21st birthday, and she hasn't taken off her double-tag "Return to Tiffany" pendant since. Smile

gingercat02 · 14/06/2022 13:20

I prefer 1 but It's a long time since I was 16.
I got a gold signet ring for my 16th which I still wear sometimes.

It's a birthday that isn't really significant anymore but nice to mark it OP

MistyRuins · 14/06/2022 13:45

The first one has been replicated by hundreds of places that sell them for under £20. At least the second one has a bit of uniqueness about it.

Eddmr · 14/06/2022 14:18

My 16 year old had the second one for her birthday.
