I have just found out that the "sticky backed plastic" on Blue Peter was actually "sellotape" but they werent allowed to advertise it. How did I not know this?🤔

Your mum was correct. The cello in cellotape is short for cellophane. 😁

All of the other planets will fit between the Earth and the Moon.

What about pregnant women? If we're saying they have two hearts, then women pregnant with sons must have testes as well as a second heart...

It also plays havoc with the "most people have more than the average number of limbs" factoid. If a significant chunk of the population are walking around with 8, (or in some cases 12 or 16) then the average number of limbs may well be four-and-a-bit.

And what's the average number of kidneys?

Not just found out, but, a pound of lead, or any other everyday item weighs less than a pound of gold.

You sure about that?

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 13/05/2022 09:19

Literally just noticed this morning: horizontal has horizon in it. It literally means parallel to the horizon. I'm 45 and studied further maths and physics at A level.

Errr, no. A pound is a pound. A pound of lead weighs the same as a pound of feathers.

Gold is measured in Troy weight and so its "pounds and ounces" are a bit lighter than the pounds and ounces used for everything else.

Daftasabroom · 13/05/2022 10:15

There are six different versions of the pound and then there are slugs as well.

Forestfan24 · 13/05/2022 10:48

That co-op stores are all not the same. There are 2 co-op stores on same road here and it wasn't till I tried to use my loyalty card (yellow honeycomb) in the other store that I realised. I hadn't noticed different branding, logos etc! Thought co-op was co-op!

So now have 2 different loyalty cards (yellow honeycomb and blue logo) and try to remember to not use the wrong one! But they sell the same food so I'm still confused by it all

I always assumed the Iggle Piggle boat was him sailing off to his dreams (like the boat that takes you to Hushabye mountain in chitty chitty chitty bang bang) - that he was actually in bed but slowly sailing off to the land of dreams

This is of course exactly right.

phew!

A pound in weight is a pound, regardless of the substance being weighed. A lighter substance just requires more of it to weigh a pound.

One more time for the people at the back: gold is measured in different units.

Think they might be franchises. I have two near me as well, know one is owned and run by a local couple, not sure about the other but it was for sale recently.

I think it is actually cellulose?

The original sellotape is made form cellulose I think

That the name "Eeyore" in Winnie the Pooh comes from the donkey sound "Ee- aw". They don't sound the same in my accent. Husband hadn't realised this either.

That the word "realtor" comes from "real estate agent". I only found this out in the last week!

And Tigger is Tiger and Kanga and Roo make kangaroo.

Daftasabroom · 13/05/2022 16:38

@WhenDovesFly many slugs do have shells, on the inside! My seven year old taught me that.

That you don’t rinse after brushing you’re teeth.

I have heard this, but hate the idea of leaving all the bits you have brushed off (think Weetabix / toast) still in your mouth and not rinse out.

OrdinaryGirl · 13/05/2022 16:54

I just read my dad the ‘one day you pick your kid up and put them down and then never pick them up again’ and he picked me up like a sack of potatoes and gently swung me from side to side. I’m 45, he’s 75, and this made my day 🥰

Daftasabroom · 13/05/2022 16:55

@CassTheFox yes, the original Michelin guide was aimed at early car touring around France, and rated restaurants and I believe hotels to allow motorists to plan their journey and their stopovers. If you want a great meal out without the pomp and cost associated with a Michelin star restaurant look for a bib gourmand.

I just did the same. Ddad is 73. I’m 37. He now says he’s done his back in. 😂

TeacupDrama · 13/05/2022 17:54

a pound of lead weighs the same as a pound of feathers but a pound of gold /silver doesn't weigh the same as either; as precious metals are weighed in troy
there are twelve troy ounces to the pound each ounce is made up of 20 pennyweights and each pennyweight is 24 grains ( ie 240 grains just like there were 240 pennies in an old imperial pound sterling)
a troy ounce is about 31g so more than a normal ounce but a troy pound is about 373g so less than an imperial pound

I spit/rinse them out during the process, just don't rinse after the last lot of brushing so the toothpaste stays on my teeth.
