Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 19:27

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

I worked in a restaurant where a lot of famous people came in. Most of them went out of their way to be lovely to us including some Hollywood A Listers. Lloyd Grossman and George Galloway were the only rude ones I met. The types that looked at you like you were a pest if you asked them if you tried to do your job and serve them properly.
Martine Mccutcheon was also stroppy in the queue once but to be fair it was a very very long queue and I've read she has fibromyalgia which can make standing in a queue very stressful, so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Soffit · 10/05/2022 10:45

How is Carol Wright consider herself to be a celebrity? She is just an ageing wag and identikit Essex housewife with a bunch of dim kids who have all lost their clothes.

Soffit · 10/05/2022 10:47

I saw her once at a restaurant called Sheesh and she looked me up and down as though I was competition. I found it insulting because she is decades older, I'm definitely not from Essex and the only thing we have in common is our hair colour.

Bill Oddie
I lived in Hampstead and I smiled at him thinking he was familiar from somewhere (doh) and he scowled back at me so deliberately I recoiled in shock.

I've seen him on the heath just sitting but with a face that signalled leave me alone. He's had issues hasn't he, so I'm assuming he just likes to be left in peace.

Bluegirl222 · 10/05/2022 10:57

Met Dawn French and Lenny Henry once, vile, especially her, really rude to staff.
Vic Reeves was lovely.
Gianfranco Zola is lovely too, very chatty and down to earth, so is Dennis Wise.
Shane Ritchie = twat

i don't really like these threads. Why expect anyone to be 'lovely' to you. They have no idea who you are, and they didn't get where they are by being nice. They got famous by being unusual and unreasonable. Deal with it.

That said, I have met several of the Dingle family actors from Emmerdale and without exception they were absolute treasures.

I guess it depends on the context. We all have off days, or moments of irritation. I'd hate to always have to be 'on' in peformance, smiley mode.
I worked in theatre for a while, and there were a few people who were consistently grumpy, moody and rude.

What exactly HAS happened to Katie Hopkins? She's vanished off the face of the earth.

She got cancelled.

I work for a publishing house and had the pleasure (or would I thought would be an honour and a pleasure) of running our good friend JK through some of her edit notes.

Before she published The Casual Vacancy, there was a HUGE plot hole left in the book, which isn't particularly rare for our authors - we're all only human after all.

I brought it up with her, and she refused to accept that it was a problem, and when we pushed it she said we were free to rewrite that chapter if we wanted to, but she didn't see why she should.

We told her that she was under contract with us for this book, and we wouldn't be publishing until it was ready - and with this plot hole remaining, it wasn't ready.

She rewrote it, and it became the highly successful book we know today.

Writing a book is very much a team effort between a lot of people as well as the author, but nothing is more frustrating than an author who thinks they know best at all times. Just because you've had one successful series doesn't mean you can't make mistakes Jo!

Different perspective on Paul McCartney. My sister spent a train journey sitting near him, standard class. They chatted for the 2 hour journey. She had never been a fan of the Beatles or him but said he was an absolute sweetheart.

Same. A friend's student daughter & friend approached him & were a bit over-excited so could have been annoying, but he chatted and asked them all about themselves and their ambitions.

BetsHilton · 10/05/2022 11:03

I always wonder when people say X celeb was ‘rude’ to them if they were badgering them/ being annoying. Obviously if you’re working somewhere and they come in and are horrible fair enough, but I would never approach a celeb out and about minding their own business. I used to see Domhnall Gleeson in my local Tesco a lot. I love him but would never approach him in that context asking for photos etc.

This is going back years now but I met Alan Carr through work and he was really nice. This was at a party event in London when he was only just starting to be known and he did a set on stage - the party goers were so rude (many minor celebs in attendance) and just talked over him the whole way through, he came off the stage and actually looked like he was holding back tears, I think it really knocked his confidence. But look at him now, Mr Successful, and he deserves it, he is a nice guy.

Nooooooooo please tell me it's not true about David!!!!!

Peter Andre, lovely - warm, sweet, genuine.

I have met Peter Andre and David Grey - both were lovely.

Told this story on here before. DD was working for Eurostar a few years ago, and took a coffee to someone she realised was Paul McCartney! She was so shocked she spilt the coffee all over his coat, folded on the seat next to him. She was stuttering "Sorry! Sorry!" And he said "Don't worry, love, this coat's nearly as old as me! " and helped her clean it up. All our family have loved him ever since!

John Humphrys. Just like he was on the radio: deliberately awkward, cantankerous, grumbles at everything. Tosser.

Had a chat with him and his producer in an airport queue. He was perfectly nice and normal.

DH was once sitting across from Ben Miller on a train, who have him a lovely smile when he saw him looking. DH was too shy to say anything though.

I worked with John Humphrys and unfortunately he was consistently not nice. More pleasant to more senior staff than me and my friend who were fairly junior, which always makes me think less of a person.

The one person I am desperate to know is as intelligent, funny and an all round great person is Ricky Gervais. Has anyone met him?

And I'm heartbroken that Des O'Conner wasn't wonderful. I had a weird thing about him as a little girl...

I think similar threads have reported him as not nice.
There was a Guardian interview with him recently that he didn't come out of very well.

Morrissey always comes up on these threads!

I can’t think whose mum I’d recognise, maybe David beckham?!

I met Morrissey a couple of times in the 80's at the height of their fame and he was very nice. I think he's very awkward

These people are faced with reading comments from complete strangers about themselves.
No wonder they’re not always sunshine and light

Nocutenamesleft · 10/05/2022 11:40

I worked in the music industry for over 20 years so I met tons (celebrities not horrible so ones!)

however the one who stands out was Chris packham who shouted the immortal words of ‘do you know who I am!!!!!!’

Summerwetordry · 10/05/2022 11:40

CockleburIck · 10/05/2022 10:10

Disappointed to hear that John Noakes was any less than unutterably lovely! That's ruined my day.

He was very pleasant when I met him and was great with my children.

tomatoandherbs · 10/05/2022 11:43

Bet my friend has posted about her horrible experience with the Chuckle Brothers when she was 15??

INeedNewShoes · 10/05/2022 11:46

@LindaEllen Surely it's not a good idea for you to be sharing that on this thread, especially if you still work for them! Does your contract not have a clause discouraging this sort of thing?

musicviking1 · 10/05/2022 11:47

I was at a theatre and I watched Eddie Redmayne be incredibly rude to some of the fans waiting for him, he would only sign autographs for women too which was odd. Put me right off him.

I also met Leslie Nielsen who was horrible and shouty at everyone.

I read that interview. I do recall thinking 'ouch' a bit.
