Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

1015 replies

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 19:27

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

Christopher Timothy! He swept into the store I worked at and threw a pair of trousers at me (do u know who I am!?) and said they needed altering to fit him and swept out again. he's not even very famous Grin

Stewart Copeland was very nice, and let me sell him some spray protector to go with his suede shoes

My dd met David tennent in sainsburys once-she was a massive fan and asked for a selfie
he was an utter arse to her-she was crushed

debbie mcgee (Paul daniels wife) was a bitch to a friend when she was in a restaurant and my friend was the waitress
clicking her fingers and was very rude in a ‘do you not know who I am?’ way
she didn’t leave a tip either

It is just not on to go up to anyone and say can I have my photo taken with you.
Really rude of your daughter

I read that interview. I do recall thinking 'ouch' a bit.

TBF it was Simon Hattenstone, and I think he sometimes goes in with a bit of prejudice towards the person (his Patti Smith one didn't paint her very well either).
But he made an astute observation about how Gervais never even asked his name, much less use it in their conversation, and showed not a glimmer of being at all interested in anything but himself.

I love these threads. I’ve found the more a list they are, the more jumped up they are.

I don’t find that true at all and I’ve worked in the music industry for over 20 years

i find that they quicker they become famous the worse they are. So people who became famous overnight in talent shows tend to be quite bad. Not all. Because one day they’re working in a shop and the next day they ask for only brown m and m’s and someone jumps up on command!!! The power goes to their head

i also find the longer people have been famous the nicer they are (again not always true) for example Coldplay for me we’re always lovely to work for, kylie etc we’re all wonderfully nice.

Me and my colleagues went above and beyond to help out Clive Swift. I worked for a bank and it was a Saturday, his bank was closed and we were the only bank open in the town and he wanted to cash a cheque. We’d have been completely justified to refuse but we helped him out and he was rude and ungrateful. Whenever Keeping Up Appearances is on tv I refer to him as a nasty man.

How were you able to cash a cheque from another bank?

GuyFawkesDay · 10/05/2022 12:02

Yep, Olivia Colman is pretty A list and is a delight. Exactly as you'd expect: warm, funny and motherly.

I find it really odd I know someone who works with these guys day to day and says the long established A Listers are normally gorgeous and really lovely. On a film set abroad one a Lister had a house rented for them whilst they were there, and regularly cooked a load of the crew Sunday roasts!

He was very pleasant when I met him and was great with my children.

Ah, thanks @Summerwetordry my day has been restored 😌

Without wishing to be a name dropper - because I work in entertainment I've met loads some people who are fantastic with fans are two faced arses in real life and the reverse is true. some of the nicest people I know including some names on here aren't that great with fans - if you got pestered and hassled as much as some people do or someone catches you at the wrong moment then it's easy to come across as an arse. I'm sure some would say I was too.

but you’d only be “name dropping” people you say are actually nice on the basis of what you’re saying?

TheMarmaladeYears · 10/05/2022 12:09

My DH met Mark Lamar once and said he would need to be a lot more famous than he is to be as much of an arsehole as he was.

DS2 met Mark Lamar in a Green Room. He'd confirm that Lamar stood out as an utter cockjuggler. Other, genuinely more famous people in the same room were delightful so his arseholeness stood out all the more.

piisnot3 · 10/05/2022 12:10

I met Laura Kuenssberg when she was well-known, but less of a household name than she is now. She was genuinely lovely - very polite to me, and went out of her way to be nice to my children.
I've always felt since then that the vitriol directed at her from both sides of the political spectrum was mostly misogyny.

You’ve just reminded me - I met her at a conference. She wasn’t actively unpleasant, just dismissive and offhand and (over) animated in male company at tbe confetence.

I walked past Judy Murray in a train station not long ago. I thought she was someone I knew but couldn’t quite place so I smiled at her as I walked by. She smiled back. It wasn’t until I was well past her that I realised and thought, “You idiot, that was Judy Murray and you definitely don’t know her!” 😂

,

Ha

i can top that! I used to teach salsa and Argentine tango many years ago as a hobby

whrn in a restaurant I went up to a woman and said. Oh I know you….have I taught you to dance

was only one of the woman on strictly!!!! So she probably beats me hands down at what I taught

to be fair we had a right laugh about it and spoke for the rest of the evening. Her children were impeccably behaved and I commented so. She was delighted!

Quick name change but Malique Thompson-Dyer. Thinks he’s God’s gift to women, tried to pay me for sex and just a horrible tiny person.

Jodie Marsh was amazing though, she was a complete sweetheart.

Sorry

but what?!?! Please tell that story!!!!

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 10/05/2022 12:35

Has anyone met Emma Thompson, and if so, is she as wonderful as I dream she is??!!

JoanCandy · 10/05/2022 12:37

Rudest - Bruce Foxton (used to be in The Jam)
Loveliest - Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac)

Flavourflava · 10/05/2022 12:41

I used to see David Tennant on the tube occasionally, with his kids, and it was very clear he just wanted to be left alone. He'd wear a hat really low and sit facing as far toward the window as possible.

Which is fair enough, sometimes it's Saturday with your children and you want to travel a few tube stops unmolested.

amymorris01 · 10/05/2022 12:42

Absolutelylovely. I totally agree about the Ginger jibe
I get really fed up when people think it dosnt matter that they can take the piss out of ginger people and think its funny. Its Not!!!

ImInStealthMode · 10/05/2022 12:42

Tony Hadley's a dickhead.

David Jason on the other hand was lovely.

Debbie McGee was an absolute darling to my Dh and l , posed for pictures with us and was utterly charming . Chatted for a few mins to us about their home in Richmond getting flooded and hoping it wouldn't happen again because they had done a lot of work to prevent it happening again.

CulturePigeon · 10/05/2022 12:51

Not my personal experience, but that of a colleague - but I've never forgotten it and it's spoiled my enjoyment of this person's work, which I used to quite enjoy.

At work once we had organised a poetry reading (in a London museum) and the 2 readers/poets were Roger McGough and S M**, once famous for being a member of The Goons and for TV comedy. Yes it was a long time ago!

My colleague was sorting things out for them and she was a really kind and helpful person. Roger was lovely (phew!) but the other one was vile, apparently. He said some totally unprovoked and quite shocking things to her which would now be categorised as 'negging'. She was holding back the tears when she came back to the office.

I understand that he had mental health problems but there was no excuse for what he said. If he hadn't felt well enough to attend the event he should have just stayed away rather than take it out on staff members who couldn't retaliate.

PrtScn · 10/05/2022 12:54

When I worked in a shop Bruce Jones (was in Corrie), was quite rude to me. His friend was embarrassed and apologised.

SomePeopleAreJustIdiots · 10/05/2022 13:02

Badbadbunny · 10/05/2022 08:06

Jane McDonald (cruise singer) - absolutely full of herself and vile. Nothing at all like the friendly "woman next door" vibe she fakes on camera.

I used to see her a lot on the train- she always was very quiet and polite

RunAwayNow · 10/05/2022 13:03

Worst - Jenson Button.

Loveliest - Maxine Peake. Absolutely delightful with my daughters and very tolerant of their requests for pictures.

LeniGray · 10/05/2022 13:07

Oooh… I’ve remembered my brief (workplace) encounter with John Prescott. He didn’t actually do anything unpleasant, but the look he gave me made me feel mildly scared. A menacing glare is what it felt like, yet I kind of think in actuality, he just forgets that if he doesn’t actively make an effort to smile, his face looks set to ‘angry man’ 🤔
