Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

John Craven is the only well-known person I've met that I would go out of my way to avoid!

Well that’s my entire childhood ruined.

He was utterly delightful and charming to me. A bit bewildered as the gaggle of pierced, shaven headed, tattooed freaks approached him going "OMG John Craven OMG" I think he probably wondered what terrible effect Newsround had had on us.

We were in the pub and he had a pint so maybe that's it.

PassThePringles · 09/05/2022 21:02

Roy Chubby Brown (and his manager) ... Is the most down to Earth, warm, famous person I've met. He gets so much stick for his acts but he's lovely in person. He was so welcoming towards us before a show, we didn't want to impose too much but he genuinely made us feel like we could have stayed to talk to him all night.

FabulousKilljoys · 09/05/2022 21:02

I know a couple of celebrity mums. Both nice before their kids became famous. Not so nice now. No, I'm not saying who they are.

But I met Craig Charles from Red Dwarf once and he was very pompous and not at all likeable.

OnthePiste · 09/05/2022 21:03

I met a few in my previous job. Gary Lineker-certainly not mr nice guy, very arrogant and unfriendly. Jason Statham-demanding and cocky. Jade Jagger-incredibly entitled (She was with Kate Moss who was absolutely lovely) Patsy Palmer-rude and very unfriendly.

The nicest ones were Tony Blackburn, Julie Walters, John Barnes, Michelle Collins, Zoe Ball. All friendly and down to earth.

Athleticpotential · 09/05/2022 21:03

I like to think I'm mostly lovely, but there have definitely been moments in my life when you wouldn't think so if that was your only experience of me.

Dartsplayer · 09/05/2022 21:03

Frankie Detorri - arrogant

Peter Andre, Linda Lusardi - absolutely lovely and down to earth

Ithinkitsadoughnut · 09/05/2022 21:04

Never met him, but Dappy was absolutely awful to someone who said she liked his music. Called it her guilty pleasure and he was fuming!! Google it. 😵

GaiaWise · 09/05/2022 21:04

But I would never judge a celebrity who refused an autograph or a selfie, unless maybe if it was for a child. I would never ask someone for this if they are off duty, they must get so tired of being approached all the time and I don’t think it’s fair.

My dd met David tennent in sainsburys once-she was a massive fan and asked for a selfie
he was an utter arse to her-she was crushed

debbie mcgee (Paul daniels wife) was a bitch to a friend when she was in a restaurant and my friend was the waitress
clicking her fingers and was very rude in a ‘do you not know who I am?’ way
she didn’t leave a tip either

To be fair, I really feel for celebs who are just trying to do their shopping and get accosted for selfies. It's OK to ask if they are doing some publicity stunt, but if they are having dinner or out and about, leave them in peace, I think.

I have a good friend who was in a TV series for years and was unbelievably famous at the time. You couldn't go for a quiet drink with her, couldn't walk down the street, We once tried to take my DC to a fairground and about forty kids swarmed around her. Took her an hour just to get through the autographs. She was always, always sweetness and light but it made me realise I'd be a grumpy git in her position.

Eggshausted · 09/05/2022 21:05

Eddie Izzard, Lenny Henry and Gordon Ramsay and Terry Wogan. Safely the four most obnoxious ‘celebs’ I’ve had the misfortune to meet.

EmergencyPoncho · 09/05/2022 21:05

Lordofmyflies · 09/05/2022 20:58

There is definitely a reverse fame to politeness rule. I used to work in a business in which I often had face to face contact with 'celebrities' and royals. It was always the C listers who had attitude and spoke rudely to me. A listers generally where very polite and unassuming. George Michael was one of the most humble and kind people I ever met. Lawrence Fox was a demanding, arrogant ahole.

If George hadn't been lovely, it would have made me question everything I thought I knew. Didn't he see a lady on a tv quiz show who wanted money for IVF, not sure what happened on the programme but afterwards he secretly sent her the money? I think the story only came out after he died.
Bloody love Sara Cox and Rylan, I really don't think you can fake that warmth.

Agree about Craig Charles-. Rude idiot-smoking in a non smoking venue and then denied it.

Stylishkidintheriot · 09/05/2022 21:06

@Tryhard40 some people didn’t get to go in the audience for funhouse as kids. And it shows.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/05/2022 21:06

Let’s face it, the public can be knobs, and it must get incredibly tedious being hassled every time you nip to a shop or get on the Tube. There’s a big difference between being short with someone who asks you for a selfie when you want to be left in peace versus throwing your weight around and being shitty to crew and other people who can’t answer back.

FluffyDogMother · 09/05/2022 21:07

Chafingthedream · 09/05/2022 20:20

I’ve met a lot of celebrities through work-Carol Wright doesn’t surprise me. Mark Wright is exceptionally arrogant.
But the worst is Melanie Sykes. So rude.

@Chafingthedream Melanie Sykes is autistic so may find social interaction challenging. It can come off as rude not not intentional.

Lolllllllllllll · 09/05/2022 20:47

It always seems that when people recount having met a celeb the celeb is either 'really really awful' or they are the complete opposite and are 'really, really lovely'. It's as though people want to make more of a story out of their brief meeting. I suspect that 99% of celebs are unremarkable if you meet them in passing.

Not really. I've met loads of celebs but most of them were just fine, unremarkable. Not worth commenting on.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 09/05/2022 21:07

Ronnie Corbett was awful to me some 25 years ago....he screamed at me as the kitchen was closed and he wanted a meal...I was the poor young girl on the hotel reception that got the brunt of his temper....utter arsehole.

dropthevipers · 09/05/2022 21:08

Rover83 · 09/05/2022 20:24

I got spat on by Liam Gallagher for being in his way

I met Rory McGrath a few times and he's been rude to everyone especially bar staff

That doesn't surprise me about McGrath. During my skint student days I used to supplement my income by busking at my local tube station (Finsbury Park-cello student at the Guildhall) Had quite a few celebs passing through on their way home to Crouch End. McGrath always looked at me like i was shit on his shoes. Always got a pound coin (and a smile) though off Adrian Dunbar!

Lollypop701 · 09/05/2022 20:14

rio Ferdinand was in his restaurant… I didn’t recognise him but quite a few people approached him and he was lovely with them

I met Rio in a nightclub in the 90's he was awful just looking every female up and down. Really disrespectful. He appears to have become quite lovely with time

TarpaulinEyes · 09/05/2022 21:08

It must be very difficult being famous and 'on show' all the time. I have a feeling I would be named constantly in these threads had I become well known!

I will throw Dennis Waterman into the mix though. Asked to attend a charity event in a club. Didn't crack a smile the whole time he was there and sloped off early

FeinsteinA · 09/05/2022 19:34

Morrissey. Arsehole.

Tell all! I've heard this a few times but I'd love to know your story.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 09/05/2022 21:09

Joe Pasquale lives near me and is absolutely lovely.

Blinky21 · 09/05/2022 21:09

Mick Hucknall was the rudest I've ever encountered and a couple of people I know have stories about David Walliams. Nicest was Craig David

CherryRipe1 · 09/05/2022 21:09

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2022 20:15

I've heard awful things about JR. Terrible to work with apparently.

I met him at The Comedy Awards and he was lovely, charming. I don't doubt he can be difficult.

Kanaloa · 09/05/2022 21:09

I guess if you’re as famous as someone like David Tennant that’s part of the payoff though. You become extremely famous, make a lot of money and sometimes people (fans who support your work) will approach you in public.
