Is your waist half your weight?

Read online that your waist measurement in inches should be half your weight in kgs... does this pan for everyone?

I'm hourglass and have always been heavier than i look (I'm also overweight and look it atm so I'm not using excuses haha) my weight in kgs is around 76kg (12st) and my natural waist is 32. This seems quite a lot smaller than the 38 that the calculation would suggest, which seems odd when i am so overweight and unfit atm.

Do your measurements fit the calculation? Interested to see if its just rubbish or if I'm an anomaly 🤣

My waist is 26ins and my weight is 53kgs so it's near enough for me!

partystress · 08/05/2022 11:56

I thought it was half your height? Otherwise the heavier you, are the fatter you are allowed to be, which doesn’t seem like it would reduce obesity.

Panticus · 08/05/2022 11:57

I thought the measure was waist:height, not waist:weight?

56kg & 26/7 (I think I’m 27 waist but struggle to find 27 jeans, 28 is too large and 26 too snug!) close enough for me

CambsAlways · 08/05/2022 12:00

Oh I don’t know! Goes off to measure reluctantly

Carrotten · 08/05/2022 12:03

What does it tell us if our waist is bigger than our weight?

Carrotten · 08/05/2022 12:05

My weight is 72kg and my waist is 27. What does this tell me? That I have a massive arse?

CambsAlways · 08/05/2022 12:07

The answer is a big fat no! I need to grow upwards and not more rounder

ClaudiusTheGod · 08/05/2022 12:07

It’s nothing to do with your weight. Your waist should not be more than half your height.

ldontWanna · 08/05/2022 12:08

Where I'm from, ideal weight is considered to be the cms over 1 m take away 10.
So
167 cms- weight should be 57
150 cms -weight should be 40

No idea who decided that or where it comes from. I've always been fat by those standards.Grin

CambsAlways · 08/05/2022 12:08

You measure your height against your waist not your weight 🤣🤣

ClaudiusTheGod · 08/05/2022 12:09

What’s your height OP? If it’s 5 foot 4 or less than that’s when you’re supposed to try to lose weight, going by a waist of 32”

LondonQueen · 08/05/2022 12:18

It's height not weight🤣

artisanbread · 08/05/2022 12:25

I don't have a waist. I'm 5'7, weigh less than 9 stone and still have a waist measurement of 29 inches. If I lose weight it comes off my face, arms, legs and boobs before my waistline. I know the mid-section.is the unhealthiest place to carry weight but I just can't lose any off there without becoming severely underweight!

anywhichwaytoo · 08/05/2022 12:29

Yes, with room to spare.

Height: 167cm / 2 = 83.5
Weight: 64kg / 2 = 32

So we're working with either 83cm or 32in= 81cm.

My waist is 70cm.

LadyJaneHall · 08/05/2022 12:30

My waist is much more than half my height but am under 9 stone with BMI of 22 so don't feel I can lose too much weight.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/05/2022 12:31

My weight is 68kg and my waist is 28 inches. 6 inches less than half.

BusterGonad · 08/05/2022 12:34

It's height and waist..weight and waist makes zero sense.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/05/2022 12:35

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/05/2022 12:31

My weight is 68kg and my waist is 28 inches. 6 inches less than half.

Half my height is 86.5cms, my waist is 71cm. About the same difference! 15.5cm/6.1 inches

FreezyFreezy · 08/05/2022 12:43

My waist is more than half my height, yes. Yes, I am overweight.

I'm similar. 5ft 6ins, 10st and 29.5 inch waist, but I carry weight around my mid section. Skinny arms and legs like you. Whenever I've had a "healthy" waist measurement I've been very small and my GP told me I needed to put weight on. Also friends and family said I looked very fragile.

Zilla1 · 08/05/2022 12:43

There are several benchmarks like wingspan = height but there is a lot of variation in morphology.

pieonthesofa · 08/05/2022 12:48

37 weeks pregnant over here… so absolutely not 😂

Zilla1 · 08/05/2022 12:55

Don't forget to take account of adding your baby's height to your own.

Pombearsforthewin · 08/05/2022 13:22

It is... if I pretend I am 8ft 2" 😂
