Used to go to lots of concerts/gigs in my younger year, then had dc and not been to one for ages. Say watching my old favourite on you tube and just wondering what’s the best gig/concert you have ever been to and where was it

Bruce Springsteen 1985 at slane ireland and
Queen 1986 same venue

Me too!! Queen Kind of Magic tour! it was amazing. We parked in a field SOOOO far away and walked to it. A dublin group called the fountain heads opened..then Chris Rea and then the Bangles before Queen. I still have the program from it !

Sex Pistols 1996 Finsbury Park. It was their first gig for 20 years and it was amazing. They played to more people that day than in the whole of their original career and to coin a cliche, it was electric. They were fired up, wanting to reclaim a musical, not just pop cultural legacy and the crowd was filled with people seeing the first band they ever loved and feeling 16 and fearless again. Plus I got to meet Pete Shelley :-) Just brilliant.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Coventry 2013. They played the Born
to Run album from start to finish during an astonishing 3.5 hour show. Without question the best live band ever.

I was there and agree. It was the best concert ever.

HerRoyalNotness · 07/05/2022 02:57

I’ve haven’t been to many and not for many years but I loved oasis in the mid 1990s, Brisbane Oz. They packed the shits and guitars were thrown, stormed off and didn’t do an encore. Still a great concert! 😆

saw Santana a couple of years ago, also good, except for my whiny kids who don’t understand concerts, we waaaant to leave. Mooooooom

Featuredcreature · 07/05/2022 03:36

Pixies 2004 brixton
Frank Black & the catholics 2003 shepherd's bush
System of a down astoria (2005?)

All so long ago, I have seen lots of bands since, though pixies and polyphonic spree we're the latest in about 2016. I'm 41 and quite frankly can't be arsed any more.

justpoppy · 07/05/2022 05:36

crikey so many….

Depeche Mode at Barrowlands in Glasgow as part of the 6music festival. How we managed to get tickets was pure luck I think. Such a small and iconic venue.

Prince when he did his 21 day residency at the o2 in 2007.

soulwax at the Roundhouse 2017

Arcade Fire at York Hall. Again, tiny iconic venue. Amazing!

Foo Fighters at the London stadium.

I’ll stop there! Think that’s my top 5 😀

oh no can I have one more? Gary Numan with the Skaparis Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. He actually said it was the best night of his life!

Ticksallboxes · 07/05/2022 05:56

Definitely Prince's Love Sexy tour at Wembley Arena in 1988.

I remember reading the incredible reviews of his previous night there while at work on the day. I called my boyfriend and persuaded him to just drive up that night and buy from a ticket tout. We hung on for ages until we heard the crowd roar and the first song start and then paid £80 for two tickets (a lot at the time).

We were very lucky though as we were right near the front and he had a central circular stage that was meant to revolve halfway through, but it was stuck so he played to our side the whole time! Mind blowing...

faw2009 · 07/05/2022 07:06

Bon Jovi Wembley , late 80s. Phenomenal.
Stevie Wonder was brilliant too!

Ilovechoc12 · 07/05/2022 07:09

Pink wireless festival in Hyde park - amazing

Will0wtree · 07/05/2022 07:55

My Chemical Romance when they were doing The Black Parade tour back in 2007. The band had such charisma.

Then (bit of a contrast), Hugh Jackman's show in Manchester. Great stage presence and singing, and lots of personal anecdotes and interaction with the audience in between the numbers. Brilliant.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 07/05/2022 08:06

Prince all 11 times Inc an after show where he got Amy Winehouse on stage.

thesunwillout · 07/05/2022 08:15

Nick Cave Bournemouth about 4 yrs ago.
Mesmerising, intense, fun and emotional.

Oasis Earls Court 1995, just the times and the atmosphere.

Public Image LTD, every time!
4 so far

MrsHaroldRobbins · 07/05/2022 08:26

Anyone seen The Smiths? Would have loved to have seen Johnny Marr and Morrissey on stage together but I was too young. I make do with The Smyths these days Grin

Luckinspades · 07/05/2022 08:31

Foo fighters.

metalica, AC/DC, white snake, Donnington park

U2

Elbow

Coldplay

Free & zZ Top at Milton Keynes bowl

The Cult

But top of the list.. The Foos absolutely outstanding.

TargusEasting · 07/05/2022 08:51

First ever concert. NEC on either 28,29 or 30 December 1980. Crowd at full capacity and we had best seats at front so we’re able to rush to the stage.

Squeeze
Selector
Elvis Costello
UB40

A couple of others - want to say Madness was one, but can’t recall. Six bands in total, at height of their career. This was prime rebellion time against Thatcherism. UB40 were especially awesome.

Strangest thing of all, despite this being the biggest concert in the U.K. at the time, nobody I know ever recalls it. Nor can I find any record of it in the internet at all……

People think I imagined it! Would love another poster to verify it and fill in the bands I cannot recall.

Yes, at the Hacienda in ‘82 (?). I had high hopes but in the end I wasn’t impressed.

IloveJudgeJudy · 07/05/2022 09:13

Not exactly a concert as such but the St Matthew Passion at the Festival Hall on Good Friday about 20 years ago was moving and emotional.

Also, Queen at Wembley in the 80s (85?) and Bruce Springsteen around the same time.

NewbieDivergent · 07/05/2022 09:15

@ResentfulLemon I was there too,she was amazing.

Changeymcgee · 07/05/2022 09:16

Acdc - o2 2008/9ish

Type O Negative - london astoria 2007ish

Joe Bonamassa - shepherd Bush 2007/8

Download Festival 2005

nursingcomplete2014 · 07/05/2022 09:16

Ooooooh and Foo Fighters - Reading 2005

CocktailNapkin · 07/05/2022 09:44

@Chishnfips I was at that Underworld gig too, right up at the front. A lady behind me from Canada had traveled to see them for the first time and promptly burst into tears when Karl came out. The roof almost came off the place during Born Slippy - fantastic show.

My best gig is also Depeche Mode - Royal Albert Hall 2010 for the Teenage Cancer Trust show. They had a string orchestra for some of Martin's solos and oh god, when Alan Wilder came on stage for Somebody the whole crowd had a melt down. I started crying, the woman next to me (dressed in impeccable early 90s style like she was an extra from the Policy of Truth video) started crying and then we looked at each other and cried and hugged it out. Small venue full of Devoted - we sang along for almost two hours straight.

Second best show by a hair was later that year - Alan Wilder's Recoil - A Strange Hour opening for Gary Numan. Intense imagery along with intense music (very dark, very dirty) and I got to meet the man himself after - lovely guy.

CrotchetyQuaver · 07/05/2022 12:15

I got offered free tickets to a Liberace concert at Wembley in the early 1980's and it was amazing, spectacular, absolutely fantastic. It was completely random - I got chatting to someone at a party, he was a medical student and they got offered loads of free concert tickets to all sorts. I've never forgotten it, it was something I'd never have chosen to go and see, he was ahead of his time re putting on a show.
