Used to go to lots of concerts/gigs in my younger year, then had dc and not been to one for ages. Say watching my old favourite on you tube and just wondering what’s the best gig/concert you have ever been to and where was it

Hard to pick have been to lots of amazing ones...

Radiohead and Massive Attack in Dublin

Elbow playing in a church in Vancouver

Pearl Jam playing 3 encores in Vancouver also

Thea Gilmore has been amazing every time I've seen her. I also saw the Pretenders a few years back and they were incredible.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 06/05/2022 23:11

Radiohead on the Pyramid stage, 97?
The Cure Crystal palace bowl. 1990.

TidyDancer · 06/05/2022 23:12

Foo Fighters were exceptional every time I've seen them, Wembley (think it was 2008) was particularly amazing though.

Chili Peppers at Hyde Park in 2004 was special.

Been to a lot of rock gigs over the years, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith are always brilliant so can't pick out a specific gig with them.

Bob Jovi - Wembley - 1996. Amazing concert.

I was there too. Incredible.

Also, Basement Jaxx. They generated energy like nothing I've ever seen.

Queen + Adam Lambert 2015. Freddie died before I was born but Dad was a huge fan. We see a lot of live music as a family and he bought the tickets and told us this one was non-negotiable!

Adam’s version of Who Wants to Live Forever is flawless and at the end of the night my usually very unexpressive Dad turned around with tears pouring down his face, telling me it was because he thought he’d see anything as good as 86 again. It was like time stood still, when they finished ai thought they’d only just begun.

At the complete opposite end of the scale, Take That, Progress- a live tour of epic proportions. They are always amazing live but having all 5 of them just had a kind of magic.

Seen Muse, Coldplay, Bryan Adams and Elton John a few times and all deserve a special mention particular Head Full of Dreams!

CuteOrangeElephant · 06/05/2022 23:15

Arctic Monkeys in Sheffield in 2011. The crowd was going crazy for them. Very good from start to finish.

watcherintherye · 06/05/2022 23:18

@Mercedesbenz2022 Yes, it really was! It was the Ziggy Stardust tour and the atmosphere was electric. Aladdin Sane had just been released, so lots of people made up with iconic lightning bolts! It was my first ever concert. Went with my friend when we were 14 and I remember now how breathtaking the music was - so loud you could actually feel it reverberating through you! Great memories. Wink

Far too many cool folk in here tonight so I'll bring it down some … backstreet boys millennium tour 1998. Magic!

MadisonAvenue · 06/05/2022 23:23

Green Day supported by Frank Turner at Brixton Academy in 2013. It was a Reading warm up show, both Frank Turner’s and Green Day’s set lists were amazing and Green Day also performed Dookie in full.

DeskInUse · 06/05/2022 23:23

Dolly Parton

HippyChickMama · 06/05/2022 23:24

The Prodigy, Phoenix 96. That whole festival was brilliant but that was definitely the highlight.

MothralovesGojira · 06/05/2022 23:26

Bring Me The Horizon at the O2 last September. Our first proper gig since covid stopped everything - it was an amazing emotionally charged night where we all sang and danced all the way through in almost complete unison. In the final song Ollie started to cry and the crowd carried on singing for him in perfect time - the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. An amazing night.

augustusglupe · 06/05/2022 23:27

Prince - Maine Road Manchester, 1992 & in 2014 at the MEN
Metallica - Manchester MEN 2017
Ive never seen a bad Depeche Mode gig either. Dave is a brilliant frontman.

Chishnfips · 06/05/2022 23:28

Underworld Alexendra Palace 2017. The homecoming gig from that tour. Sound was crisp and loud and just phenomenal. Lots of lasers lots of smoke machines and we were all right down the front with about 30 of our friends that had travelled from all over the country to meet up. It almost felt like the 90s were back again.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 06/05/2022 23:31

@augustusglupe
i was at that 1992 prince in Manchester with my sister
wow ! Manchester was bouncing that night ! good timed

Iwasjustasking · 06/05/2022 23:32

TAke that at the Ricoh arena, there shows are just amazing and they always put so much into them (I’m rubbish at remembering dates!)
30 seconds to mars - nec 2019, the atmosphere was fantastic!
The Streets - 2019 o2 academy Birmingham - I thought I had missed my chance to see them live and then they reformed and honestly I loved every second!

DinosaursEatMan · 06/05/2022 23:37

Guns N’ Roses 1987. Tiny sweaty club, definitely packed to over capacity. Awesome. They definitely went downhill from that point!

On the other hand I saw Tool earlier this week, serious contender…

Andylion · 06/05/2022 23:38

Springsteen. In 1984 he played the Exhibition Grandstand, in Toronto, a 16,400-seat venue, in the first year of the Born in the USA tour.

He really exploded into superstardom in 1985. The tour continued and that summer he played Exhibition Stadium, with a capacity of 70,000. I remember thinking how great it was that he had hit it big, and if anyone can wow a stadium crowd, it’s Bruce. but I preferred previous year, as it was more intimate, (if you can call an outdoors venue, “intimate”).

Actually, seeing his Broadway show from the front row, though not strictly a concert, was also unforgettable.

DinosaursEatMan · 06/05/2022 23:40

Also very jealous of pp who mentioned Depeche Mode. Would have killed to see them, still hold out hope!

mrsfollowill · 06/05/2022 23:41
