Used to go to lots of concerts/gigs in my younger year, then had dc and not been to one for ages. Say watching my old favourite on you tube and just wondering what’s the best gig/concert you have ever been to and where was it

@daisydalrymple
AC/DC donington 1991

I was there too! Just wish I could have seen them with Bon Scott, but not quite old enough!

WibblyWobblyJane · 07/05/2022 00:24

Probably U2 Joshua Tree 1987 but it was my first ever concert.

However, saw OMD recently and they were amazing. Such great energy, sound, production, connection with one another and with the audience. Andy Mccloskey’s voice sounds better with age and he’s an absolute riot with the dancing.

Also, perfect blend of nostalgic and more modern music. Made me happy about today but appreciative of the past.

Forgot about that one! My first ever gig, sweet 16, 1988, The Kick tour. Michael Hutchence was wearing a green suit and I was starstruck!

I saw them then, too!

@DinosaursEatMan oh me too! Would have just loved to see them with Bon Scott!

U2 2018 at the 02. I didn’t think they were my scene at all but I was mesmerised. As the man said, I’m fuckin’ Bono 😂 and omg he/they were amazing. Never seen anything like it before or after

Time40 · 07/05/2022 00:31

Fluke at the Astoria, and Fluke at a private record company party.

WibblyWobblyJane · 07/05/2022 00:35

Loved seeing Prince and Elton John back in the 90s. They both were so humble and seemed genuinely appreciative of the audience.

@mrsfollowill Tears for Fears is touring now. Duran Duran also! Might go.

Saw Depeche Mode and it was probably great but wasn’t the best time for me. Weird 90s drama with roommate dating ex boyfriend. Maybe should have sat that one out!

The Cure, have seen them loads over the years but the best was their 40th anniversary at Hyde Park a few years ago. They barely stopped for breath, just kept playing one amazing song after another for over two hours. I'd go again now if I could!

Also, The Stone Roses reunion at Wembley around 2018. The Darkness at Brixton. Depeche Mode at Wembley. George Benson at the Royal Albert Hall. I'll think of more. Sorry, can't remember which years!

Yo Yo Ma complete Bach cello suites at the Proms - how anyone can concentrate on such demanding repertoire for so long and sit on stage alone and play from memory is incredible.

I was at Hyde Park, at the barrier that day too! Glorious sunny day, the anticipation waiting for them to come on stage was incredible 😀

Prince 1986 Parade tour in London.
The Specials at The Ulster Hall a few years ago.
The Revolution in London.
Blondie at the Waterfront Hall Belfast, I touched Debbies hand and nearly cried 😀
Neil Diamond 50th Anniversary tour in Belfast.

Bruce Springsteen 1985 at slane ireland and
Queen 1986 same venue

YerAWizardHarry · 07/05/2022 01:10

I went to for the first time in T in the Park 2009 aged 16 and saw The Killers, Kings of Leon, Muse, Blur, James, Paolo Nutini, The Courteeners… obviously thought it was fantastic and had the best time but looking back I don’t think the lineup could have been topped.

randomly saw Jason Mraz perform on the Saturday afternoon while killing some time and he was genuinely one of the most entertaining and enjoyable acts!

YerAWizardHarry · 07/05/2022 01:12

Also saw Foo Fighters at Bellahousten Park pre-covid and they were amazing despite a long day and bad weather. Seems extra special now with the passing of Taylor Hawkins too

CJsGoldfish · 07/05/2022 01:15

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Coventry 2013. They played the Born
to Run album from start to finish during an astonishing 3.5 hour show. Without question the best live band ever

I agree. I saw them in 1985 and again in 2014. Still played a solid 3.5 hours, he'd lost nothing, was just as energetic and entertaining. He is amazing.

Other than that, Bowie ❤

@StillMedusa

Queen Live Magic tour, Wembley. 1986
Yes I'm old Grin
NOTHING have ever come close and I've been to a lot of concerts.
Freddie Mercury just held a crowd like no-one else could, and when the whole stadium joined in with Bohemian Rhapsody... it was incredible!

I was at this one too. Same, been to lots of concerts (Bowie, Madonna, Peter Gabriel to name a few) but this one was the best by a long shot - ah maze ing

Lurkerlot · 07/05/2022 01:17

Spiritualised Manchester Academy 1998

Mothership4two · 07/05/2022 01:17

Would love to have seen Prince

Mothership4two · 07/05/2022 01:18

loved!

Littleroundsponge · 07/05/2022 01:18

Robbie Williams at Roundhay Park in 2006.

echt · 07/05/2022 01:19

Prince at the Arts Centre Melbourne, just a two months before he died
Bruce Springsteen at Hanging Rock
Jamie XX at the Forum
Lambchop, wherever they were

BemoreDerek · 07/05/2022 01:25

Oasis at Knebworth was pretty awesome, also The Streets at Birmingham NIA in about 2004/5-ish. They were running some sort of amateur rap battle competition on that tour and I remember Professor Green was one of the competitors, it was a really good night.

VanillaImpulse · 07/05/2022 01:27

Dua Lipa last week was pretty amazing!

ValBiro · 07/05/2022 01:39

Rage Against the Machine twice - wembley arena 1999 and then again in 2010 when they put on the free show for beating the X factor favourite to the Christmas number one...

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 07/05/2022 01:48

I'm so jealous of the person who saw the Ziggy Stardust tour, sadly I was only four that year. Bowie at Glastonbury is probably my best one. Or Bowie at the Hammersmith Odeon fan club gig, that was incredible, it was the 30th anniversary of Ziggy's retirement. I remember he played the Bewlay Brothers and the crowd went wild!

Also an honorouble mention to Prodigy in the Ulster Hall in about 1995 and the Brixton Academy many years later. They weren't quite so effective at a very wet Glastonbury though, its hard to dance in knee deep mud!

Depeche Mode were bloody amazing too! (Ulster Hall, maybe 1989?) They played for three hours, we were all knackered by the end!

I always regret missing Nirvana. We had tix for Brixton Academy but it was cancelled because Kurt o/ded.
