How much do you pay for a hygienist scale and polish?

Mine want £77 for a 40 minute appointment. It's cheaper to get the dentist to do it as a level 2 treatment. I was expecting it to be around £45 but almost £80 is ridiculous.

The last one I had, 6 months ago, was £65 😩 I've got another appointment next week and haven't dared ask how much it will cost, but I bet it's gone up.

ChristinaRussell · 05/05/2022 15:13

Mine charges £57.50 for 30 minutes (inner London)

AnybodyAnywhere · 05/05/2022 15:15

£55 for 30 mins, Kent. Was £43 pre Covid 🙄

Was £45 but recently raised to £50 but she is very thorough and last time I went post covid I was in there a good 45 minutes.

BobaTea · 05/05/2022 15:35

£75!

RedDiamond · 05/05/2022 15:37

£160 an hour. And you only get 1 hourly appointments.

EBearhug · 05/05/2022 15:39

£66 for half an hour.

TheBitterBoy · 05/05/2022 15:40

£65 for 30mins., SE England. Pre covid it was £42.50. They said it was because of increased cleaning and time between clients, and I think they are still doing this, but little hope of the price coming back down once this is stopped.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/05/2022 15:40

£62 , I was there for half an hour. No wonder people don't go unless necessary. She told me to come back in 6 months, no bloody chance,I'll see her next year at the earliest. I just had mild scaling, nothing else wrong at all.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 05/05/2022 15:42

Ours used to charge £59 for 20 minutes but is now only offering 30 minute appointments for £88. 😮

catandcoffee · 05/05/2022 15:43

£55 for 20 minutes 😩

Waystation · 05/05/2022 15:46

Pay a monthly plan with my dentist - so the hygienist is included in the cost (£16 per month) but I had some specialist treatment with another dentist - he wanted me to go to his hygienist £198 per hour - midlands area.

hilbil21 · 05/05/2022 15:48

£55

wonkylegs · 05/05/2022 15:53

£22.80 because I'm very lucky to still have a nhs dentist and they do it as part of my 6mth visit - we do travel to the city we used to live in for it though so it's a day trip and we all have our appointments the same day. Luckily we've never had any real dental problems.
The dentist in our village charges £50 but you have to pay £150 a year to be a patient or it's included if you have a membership plan so pay £16.50 a month (min sign up 12mths)

theRealBlueSmartie · 05/05/2022 15:56

£120 for 45 min appt

springtimeishereagain · 05/05/2022 15:57

£80 for 40 mins, Beds. Private dentist 🙄 But they are all VG

Mindymomo · 05/05/2022 15:59

I pay £19 per month with Denplan which includes 2 dentists visits and 2 hygienist visits each year, plus I get 10% off any treatment needed.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2022 15:59

My previous NHS dentist would do a scale and polish as part of the basic check up. This one doesn't. And I'm not sure she's as thorough as check ups usually take less than five minutes!

I went this morning and it was £82. Private dentist, Southwest.

Quirkycarrot · 05/05/2022 16:00

£70 for 30 minutes (outer London). Used to be £50 :(

2bazookas · 05/05/2022 16:02

I have a dental plan costs £35 a month which covers 6 monthly checkups, all dental treatment (so far) and a hygeinist scale and polish every 6 months. The prompt care and attention and facilities are superb. It's night and day from the NHS dentists we've always had before (and paid plenty of NHS fees for!) and I wish we'd done this decades ago.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/05/2022 16:11

£50 probably a 30 minute appointment, but I don’t have any issues so am usually out in 20. I go twice per year.

TheTeddyBears · 05/05/2022 18:54

Last time was about £25 but I'm at an nhs dentist. That was about 3yrs ago now can't even get an appointment anymore, only if your in pain and they blame covid for not even doing any check ups 🙄

KyieveMii · 05/05/2022 19:38

£68 pounds at my nhs dentist
however I discovered the local private dentist is £59 and you can see her without using any other services there- better too

Peregrina · 05/05/2022 20:32

£60 in oxford for 1/2 hour, or I gather you can have a de-luxe treatment for £80 but I haven't bothered. Only been once so far and had the beginnings of gum disease but the next time I went for a regular check up the gum disease was much better, so I reckoned it had been worth it.

It used to be done on the NHS, and wasn't as thorough, but Covid seems to have killed that off.
