Really not sure what to think tbh.

I have no doubt that this was a toxic and abusive and controlling relationship, some percentage from each party. But surely, with that much sobbing and heaving and heavy breathing, Amber's cheeks would be wet? There's no way I could sob like that without my face and eyes being a dripping mess. I think the 'actingness' of this is not doing her case any favours

I’ve just said the same to my DH, no snot no tears. I hate to not believe a woman but I’m struggling to find her believable

She filed for divorce and a restraining order in 2016.
Standard advice to obtain evidence

I agree, and it makes sense - once you realise you’re heading down the separation/divorce route - but a lot of this stuff seems to have been recorded when they were still supposedly in the ‘in love’ period.

CountTheStars · 05/05/2022 20:32

I can’t get my head around why she taped him, recorded their conversations, took photos - even from the early days when she was supposedly head over heels for him. What’s all that about? You don’t do that unless you’ve got some ulterior motive, right from the start. It’s just bizarre

Me too. I genuinely want to find her believable or at least try and view both sides impartially, but I know when emotion wells up in me, I struggle to get my words out, my eyes quickly pink up and I usually end up with snot swinging attractively off my nose!

I can’t imagine how challenging it must be for a jury to see through images projected by a couple whose whole profession is all about convincing us they’re someone completely different!

Autumndays123 · 05/05/2022 20:45

AH looks like an absolute prat on the stand. If the court case is found in her favour I will be flabbergasted. Watching her gasp, cry and scrunch her face up while she relays her 'story' is embarrassing. Where are the tears? Dr Curry said she has a taste for the dramatics and over exaggeration and boy can I see that. I'm sorry but if you have sat through her testimony and genuinely think she is telling the truth then you're either trolling or have very very poor judgment of character to the extent it should be a concern

Very odd to remember tiny details and specific dialogue from a decade ago.

in response to this, I remember when my exh hit me across the face as we were driving in the car. I remember exactly the way the blood spattered when it hit the window and the colour on the car interior. That was 19 years ago.

SergeiL · 05/05/2022 20:48

I despair.

Trixiefirecracker · 05/05/2022 20:50

I’ve just watched some of it and it’s desperately cringe-worthy. I’ve no doubts that JD is a drunken arsehole but the way AH is fake crying and grimacing and gasping like she can’t go on is really over the top, feels artificial and disingenuous.

SergeiL · 05/05/2022 20:53

Hiding this now.

Imagine feeling the need to post on a thread to tell everyone on the thread that you're so disgusted by the thread that you're hiding it 😂 attention seeking much? No wonder you're an AH supporter

Blackbird2020 · 05/05/2022 21:17

I don’t think JD’s goal is to win. He and his lawyers will know it’s slim at best.

He doesn’t want to resurrect his career. He knows that’s over. He knew what would come up in this trial would make him untouchable, even more so. He knows his behaviour whilst abusing various substances was awful.

But he just wants to everyone to know that a) he didn’t ever hit her, and b) she’s is extremely abusive and a liar.

That’s why he wanted it on TV. He needed others to see. Not a closed court. It won’t matter if he loses. He will have done what he set out to do. Show everyone outside of the courtroom the actual evidence he has.

Throwawaytoday · 05/05/2022 21:27

I'm going to make habit of interrupting all work meetings with: "objection, hearsay" and "I'm going to interrupt on hearsay grounds" - that lawyer was on FIRE, didn't miss an opportunity.

I agree. He's shown the world that AH assaulted him and mocked him. This wasn't seen in the uk trial. His reputation is seemingly better than hers, I'm guessing thats why she fired her PR team.

JD is due to star in a film starting this Summer, not Hollywood though. A french film I believe.

Midlifemusings · 05/05/2022 21:33

Why is it hearsay to say what you said?

After all this watching and hearing 'hearsay' repeatedly, I still can't figure out what exactly is hearsay. Sometimes it is Amber saying then I said...

It's hearsay to report what someone else said. Like when AH tried to speak for JDs daughter. Thats not allowed in a court of law.

I get that but the lawyer's also objected a few times when she was saying what she had said herself. She seems to be allowed to tell what happened but not to quote herself. She is allowed to say what Johnny said.

JD is disgusting. He's almost twice her age and should have the maturity to walk away and live a better life without AH. Instead, he's continuing their toxic attachment but now for the world to see. It's all so calculated and simply an expression of toxic masculinity. I mean, he probably didn't just go for AH because of her refined nature and personality, did he. At the very least he must see he played a huge role in this sorry saga, bit no, he just drags all their mess and pain in front of the world's media for revenge. Charming.

It's so depressing to see people's merry mob mentality regarding AH.

I believe it was scattered through her opening statement but direct copies of sentences.

I’ve only watched a few minutes of her testimony so I can’t confirm myself, but I just came across a journalists video and he has directly taken her quotes.

Would you not think to do a quick google then rather than saying

I just discovered Amber Herds opening statement was directly taken word for word from the film ‘the talented Mr Ripley’.

and posting stuff that isn't true. A quick google of the quote brings up snopes debunking it as the first result.

BorderlineHappy · 05/05/2022 22:29

@Size6Asics · he's not nearly twice her age. He's 58 and she's 36.
He's bringing her to court over something she wrote.
She wrote.
She went against the terms.
Not him.

AH's lawyer was trying to get texts between Stephen Deuters and her after the plane incident into direct examination.
Stephen Deuters, a JD employee was a Depp witness in the UK trial, but his trial evidence was disregarded on the point of whether the kick to the back was was a 'lovetap' as he said, or a kick. He/Depp's reps at first denied texting, then claimed they were doctored, then claimed that when he, Deuters, said:
"When I told him he kicked you, he cried. It was disgusting. And he knows it."
that was untrue, and just to placate AH. The judge disregarded this testimony, and judged the plane incident to be true.

Stephen Deuters was not called for Depp this time, because his contribution is damaging to Depp. I think AH lawyers may try to get his UK testimony in or call him themselves.

Captures from that article attached.

I'm only interested in what makes it into evidence, as that's all the jury may consider.

He was twice her age when they met which is why I think this oft-repeated twice-her-age thing has arisen. Massive power imbalance.

You are correct in saying he has brought about this circus. Not content with being proven an abuser and liar by a UK court, he wants to do it all over 🤷‍♂️

Whatever “terms” you are referring to - maybe the NDA? - do not apply here.

AdriftAbroad1 · 05/05/2022 22:46

Is that the only evidence of bruising then? From all the evidence she has gathered over the years? Has her testimony finished?

Dont shout me down, but that is not what a broken nose looks like.

It was an horrific account, horrible to listen to. I would have thought there would be so much medical evidence. Buy I am not a doctor.

She was 29 when she married him. That's not a child.

After the UK case, everyone was saying he was a wife beater and she walked away from the court without a slur on her name legally. And yet we know from the case so far that she is both a liar and a perpetrator of domestic violence. I don't see how Depp can win this case, but if I were in his shoes, I'd want the public to know just how badly I'd been abused and manipulated. My career might be in the toilet, but at least everyone would know that Heard was a spouse beater too.

I agree and I think that J will be satisfied that he's a winner in the court of public opinion and he can go off playing guitar instead of doing movies.
We heard about the finger and bed during the UK trial but hearing Johnny talk about it is shocking. I am fully expecting her to be asked about the bed during cross examination so that it can be used as a stick to beat her with regardless of her answer.
