I'm a mum of a 2 year old, so I don't have the 'luxury' of a ladies handbag now. So on that basis...

Four size 5 nappies
Baby wipes
Nappy cream
Nappy sacks
Babygro in case of leaky nappies
A bib
Snacks
Foldable changing mat
Summer bonnet
Sunglasses for me

Pre-children I used to have no end of crap in my bag anyway. It usually contained at least one whole tree (so much fucking paperwork like receipts and hospital appointment letters from 11 months ago), a couple of sweets so old they were permanently glued to the wrapper and therefore inedible, a shitload of crumbs which made no sense as I never had bread, cake or pastries in there, and a handy pack of pocket tissues in case I needed the loo whilst out and there was no toilet roll (said pocket tissues ALWAYS vanished at a time they were most needed), a random penny (and if I was lucky, a 5p coin) some taxi business card which I don't remember getting and at least 76 old bus tickets.

WhatICallMyUsername · 01/05/2022 23:44

I've scanned the thread and can't see it so apologies if anyone has mentioned this!

Stocard app stores all your loyalty cards so you don't have to carry them round! I was a bit skeptical at first but haven't found one yet that hasn't worked!

For me keys, phone, spare fold down shopping bag, tissues, hand sanitiser plus a host of stuff I never use such as lip balm, hand cream etc. should probably declutter Blush

How large are some people's handbags? Don't you get sore shoulders from heaving around so much shite all day? Does your bag come with wheels and an extendable handle?

I don't usually use a handbag. Phone, wallet, keys, all in pockets and job's a good-un. Only time I concede to a handbag is in summer or on a night out when jackets and dresses invariably lack pockets 😠

Same. Can I add the caveat that my adult DD carries her own shit around with her so I don't have to carry stuff for anyone else.

On the rare occasions I do carry a bag it contains
Phone
Small purse - all my loyalty cards are on my phone
Sunglasses
Tissues
Mask
Alcohol gel
Hand wipes
Emergency medication - migraine tablets, gaviscon, Immodium
Eye drops
Pen
Nail file
Reusable shopping bag

Looking back that looks like a lot. I only take a bag if going out for the whole day. If just shopping or going for a walk I just take my phone which is in a holder that has space for my debit card.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/05/2022 09:11

I wonder how many men carry so much crap around?

RosesAndHellebores · 02/05/2022 10:02

To the above I need to add painkillers.
Has anyone else switched to Totes since shops don't give plastic bags anymore? I have for weekends.

For work I use a very small cross body but the bigger essentials: umbrella, lunch, etc, go in my rucksack along with my laptop, papers, etc.

To be fair, I drive to work and almost everywhere else so gloves, make-up, handcream, hairbrush, tissues, sanitiser, masks, sunglasses, chargers, etc, are all in my big metal handbag Blush

RosesAndHellebores · 02/05/2022 10:10

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie to be fair DH has keys, wallet, specs, pen/pencil, travel pass and tends to use inside jacket pockets but always has a large work bag.

Oh and I've just recalled that in my desk drawer at work I have hairbrush, countless lipsticks, handcream, nailfile, spare tights, tena lady, salt, pepper, sugars.
