theDudesmummy · 29/04/2022 21:37

@motherofchihuahuas he absolutely did

Noisyprat · 29/04/2022 21:35

Well according to Sky News he opened the file by mistake.

The Tory party are taking us all for fools. I am so angry.

On more than one occasion? 🤔

Wow.

The two female MPs witnessed it on different days.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/04/2022 22:02

Thanks to PP for the link to GB news, I don't know the name of the interviewer, but I think he knew it was NP, and NP looked so dodgy.

theDudesmummy · 29/04/2022 22:05

The wife's position has really depressed me.

Spudlet · 29/04/2022 22:06

@Springtime45 Yes, that’s always the impression he gave. I’ve met plenty of MPs, MEPs, and MSPs of all parties, and some - you could totally see them doing something along these lines, absolutely. A few were out and out creepy. But he wasn’t one of them. 🤷‍♀️

The wife's position has really depressed me.

Her attitude is truly bizarre

Catlady2021 · 29/04/2022 22:12

I don't understand what a whip is? Can anyone explain please?

The political parties have whips. They are MPs that are usually responsible for about 15 other MPs, each of them report to that whip. The whips make sure that these MPs vote in the right way, such as voting for a bill to pass through, and maintain discipline.
If any of the MPs vote against what they should be voting for, the whips can essentially make things awkward for them.
For example, if an MP does vote against something, then their constituents could lose out on something , for example a new library, or additional funding for something, which makes that MP look less favourable to their constituents.
When you think about it it’s actually quite corrupt really.
I remember Gyles Brandreth explained what a whip was in simple terms.

Agree. Such an odd thing to say, there almost a “boys will be boys” element to it. Like she can’t understand why there is an outcry

very very odd people.

motherofchihuahuas · 29/04/2022 21:23

Thank you @MrsTerryPratchett so the whip is their PR person have I got that right?

No. The whips are enforcers. They make sure MPs vote a certain way. The whips have dirt on everyone and that's how they keep discipline. If an MP threatens to vote in a way the party doesn't want, the whips threaten to expose them. Often the whips know all this stuff (drugs, affairs etc) for years as they can use it for blackmail disciplinary purposes.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/04/2022 22:24

Yeah the whips (people) are terrifying!

But the whip (noun) is enforced by the whip (person).

minou123 · 29/04/2022 22:29

This "whip" thing is interesting.

Sorry to be a pain, I have a couple of questions:
• Do all parties have whips? Or is it just a Tory thing?
• Is there an application process to become a whip, or are you just chosen?
• Is is it a real government job, or a title given to people so they feel important?
Is it similar to the Milk Monitor at school?

NewBootsAndRanty · 29/04/2022 21:11

Nah, he was just doing research in case he got asked what a woman is 😇

He’s claimed that he opened it accidentally 🤣🤣🤣

TorringtonDean · 29/04/2022 22:43

@motherofchihuahuas the whip means his membership of the Parliamentary party. It’s confusing because the whip is the line they all follow when voting - yes or no according to the instructions they are given for each vote on a bill. The instructions are enforced by people who are also called whips - fellow MPs in the party who are in charge of discipline.

Taking away the whip means he is temporarily booted out of the Tory party in Parliament and is an independent but he keeps his seat and salary for now.

Catlady2021 · 29/04/2022 22:44

I believe the main political parties have whips, or atleast whatever party is in government at the time.
The whips are kind of like school prefects.

I have a shedload of sexual terms and words in my Google history because of the work I do. I have never once managed to accidentally have porn pushed on me. Funny that.

I have said something akin to this in the FWR thread but the wife's comments, victim blaming and basic lack of awareness are astonishing. I get it that she is shocked amd upset but this is not the appropriate response.

And letting him go in front of international press drunk was not exactly a clever strategy either.

Tories out FFS.

I also have had many years of sexual terms on my google.
My team struggled at work when we had a new firewall put in for the whole organization because we couldn't access any google searches we needed for our job, until it was modified a lot.
But never once has porn appeared on a google tab.

TorringtonDean · 29/04/2022 22:46

Whether there were any whips in the content he was watching is another matter!

His wife’s response suggests a lifetime of simply excusing whatever he is doing. It’s not as if some minx jumped out of his phone and made him watch her in the Commons!

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 29/04/2022 22:53

All the parties have whips and they get appointed. Gavin Williamson was a whip before he was promoted to fucking up schools for a living (sorry had wine).

Eightiesfan · 29/04/2022 23:07

WalkerWalking · 29/04/2022 20:35

He didn't realise it was porn- he thought it was a workplace training video.

Which he had to watch twice in case he missed any important bits the first time…

KenAdams · 30/04/2022 00:52

He opened a link by mistake but watched it.for 9 minutes on separate occasions? Sounds plausible.

Because he was sooooooo attentive to his job. He was really Googling grain prices in Uzbekistan and happened upon shagging. But didn't notice because he was rapt with attention.

Or something. Piss on our legs, tell us it's raining.

Jux · 30/04/2022 03:05

"What is a Whip"? This explains the basics:
www.parliament.uk/about/mps-and-lords/principal/whips/

He's had the whip withdrawn, so is no longer representing the Tories and presumably is no longer a minister so is an ordinary backbencher, until the whip is reatored. Won't be long, Iimagine, just until something else comes along to distract us.

DowningStreetParty · 30/04/2022 03:33

Why was his wife even asked? What’s what her husband chooses to do in his workplace in meetings, got to do with her? There’s blame on Parish’s wife for his actions, by the media seeking her comment. She’s not part of this story. That’s misogyny and she’s internalised it, as many women have.

If a woman MP did this (I know a woman MP wouldn’t ever, but let’s pretend) would we expect her husband to be wheeled out to comment on her alleged porn at work habits?

No. He wouldn’t give any comment on that or would say it was private and that would be seen as perfectly acceptable. The blame for the intimidating and creepy workplace behaviour and the failure of her constituents and her shocking failure to live up to the standards of her job as an MP would be seen as completely her responsibility.

She would be expected to resign instantly because her judgement was so unbelievably off the charts, or she would be sacked instantly.

minou123 · 30/04/2022 06:45

Just to clarify, the whole "9 minutes" thing.
I made that up 😀

I was spoofing Boris's excuse for his birthday party, in which he got the fixed penalty notice. One of his excuses was he "only attended for 9 minutes".

I have no idea how long Neil Parrish was watching the porn.
