Or are they being deleted?

He's the MP for Tiverton and Honiton in the West Country.

Will definitely be a Lib Dem gain in the forthcoming by-election.

luciatrope · 30/04/2022 23:39

I'm stumped by his interview. Tractors??

icelolly12 · 01/05/2022 05:44

"I'm a woman," she was quoted say saying. "Hence why the women were so cross. It's degrading. It's demanding. But on the other hand it takes two to tango. There must be women posing for all this "

I have a suspicion his wife thinks this porn he was watching was simply some women posing topless/nude, possibly sitting on tractors etc. A page three type shoot. ...She probably has no idea of the depravities of porn, hence her seeming so unconcerned.

DowningStreetParty · 01/05/2022 06:49

I think it should be a sex offence (with a sex offenders register record) viewing porn in a public place because men who do it are trying to intimidate others by doing so (usually women). It would seem like a gateway to more grave sexual offences against the public, for anyone to feel untouchable enough to be playing out their sexual gratification in public multiple times .

Also (it’s already an offence against children) the government should make it an offence showing porn to any adult who doesn’t want to see it. Perhaps now would be a good time for the Tories to bring in that sexual offence to show they mean business?

But I’m interested to know how the party machine justifies to itself putting pressure on Neil ‘let’s see what the investigation says’ Parish who clearly had zero intention of resigning or he would’ve done it at the outset……

…versus Actual Lawbreakers Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak. Who have been caught and even sanctioned by the police.

My Tory MP says he wants to wait for the Sue Grey report before commenting on the many letters he said he’s received about the FPNs and the culture at Westminster. It’s unbelievable. Neil Parish’s disgusting and intimidating sexual behaviour at work is just the tip of an absolutely stinking iceberg.

Or maybe it’s more of a stinking sewer fatburg, since the corruption is entirely manmade and is being kept hidden away from public view.

Frogslegsbigfeet · 01/05/2022 11:15

As much as I agree that viewing porn in public should be a criminal offence I don’t agree it should be on the sex offenders register, it would detract from what that is and lessen its impact. I also don’t agree it’s necessarily a gateway to more grave sexual offences.

the insinuation there is that this man will go on to sexually assault soneone and I think that’s going far too far.

The Tories have weighed their options. On the one hand NP's problem takes public and media attention from the Partygate liar, cost of living, etc., but may impact on the local elections. The local election impact won so he had to be pushed to resign and get the story sidelined. I doubt a byelection in NP's constituency will result in a Lib Dem gain: NP had an increased majority at the last Election.

There’s been a lot of filth under the bridge since the last election. Who’d have thought the LibDems would overturn a 23k majority in North Shropshire? Parish got less than 300 votes more than that.

ilovesooty · 01/05/2022 16:35

I don't think the Tories will be overturned in his seat. It's not the same sort of demographic as the seats where shocks have happened. I bet they could stick a blue rosette on a farm animal there and it would be elected.

Blossomtoes · 01/05/2022 16:45

It’s not often we disagree @ilovesooty but we do on this occasion. North Shropshire had been Tory for 115 years and both constituencies are rural. I bet you hope you’re wrong 😉

Has anyone asked Kier Starmer to define "porn" yet?

😂

MrsDanversBroom · 01/05/2022 16:55

The government are fucking sleazy, immoral, misogynistic liars, how TF are they still getting away with it?

I do very much hope I'm wrong! 😃

TomPinch · 01/05/2022 19:13

The Lib Dems have a lot of latent support in rural West Country constituencies. They held a lot of them until 2015 and were competitive in Parish's constituency too. That, plus anger at the Tories, will be enough to get it. Labour won't have a hope.

what do you think ?

The only way to know is look at it statistically. I used to have to look at criminal records for work. Invariably when we were looking at a rapist, it started with flashing. Flashing is about stepping over boundaries, getting sexual gratification from upsetting someone, treating your sexual wants as more important that those of other people.

Pretty much the same as watching porn in public. And I'm fairly sure you'd see a good proportion of those who did it sexually assaulting someone at some point. Not all. In the same way TWOCers don't all become bank robbers. But theft is theft and some people progress through their offending.

TomPinch · 02/05/2022 01:32

Watching porn in public is absolutely a form of flashing. Just with someone else's genitals.

TomPinch · 02/05/2022 01:32

Agree.

Someone else also mentioned that men that do this know full well what they are do it and use it to intimidate women - which is nothing but true.

This thread/MP incident has actually bought back a memory for when me and a friend were about 14/15, at a summer playscheme and one of the male workers flashed his phone with porn to us , having been watching it on the coach (or he got it up just to flash it at us, all the same really).

I didn't even know what porn was but I knew from what he showed us, it was wrong...

We reported it to another adult/ worker and we didn't see him ever again.

It's vile and there should be absolutely no excuses for it, or downplaying of it.

DowningStreetParty · 02/05/2022 17:35

Frogslegs you agreed that watching porn in public should be a sexual offence. So I’m not sure why you’d object to convicted public porn watchers’ names being placed on the register for that sexual offence? Do you think the better approach is to keeping no publicly identifiable record for men who do this- even though this is a red flag for potential escalation to even more serious sexual offences? (You might not agree with that idea, but it does seem to be fact in some cases).

Its very important for keeping women safe, for us to be able to act on and notice patterns of male behaviour. If you find that ‘going too far’, fine.
But you can’t expect anyone else to ignore that when our safety might depend on it.

And the state (the law) should absolutely be acting on such behaviour patterns, using effective interventions and deterrents.
