Ive just read that nato is warning of an escalation in the Russian war to WW3 and the risk of it going nuclear. We've just started coming out of the covid pandemic. We've got Boris Johnson breaking the law as pm and not caring. We had Trump in the US for years and might have again. And thats not even mentioning the climate crisis or the cost of living.

I mean, whats happening to us all? I cant get my head around it. I'm mid 50s and can't believe what I'm reading. I'll need to delete my news app...AGAIN...i can't live with this info.

Hopefully humans as a species will be wiped out. Give the planet to another dominant lifeform. Humans were always going this way.

toomanytwinkies · 26/04/2022 08:52

When people talk of climate change I always say the world will continue on regardless, we will wipe ourselves out well before we have to worry about this

ssd · 26/04/2022 08:54

Christ you two have cheered me up

@ssd I don't watch or read the news, its all lie's or exaggeration to get you to read it and worry.

Where did covid go? Doesn't even exist anymore according to the news, happened over night! Don't worry about it!

Oizys · 26/04/2022 09:02

Could this escalate into nuclear war? Maybe I guess we can’t predict anything BUT it’s more likely just scare tactics from the Russian side who’s invasion has not gone to plan and are struggling to win their “war”

staying away from the news when it’s making you anxious is best right now. All we can do is carry on and enjoy our lives in the here and now.

You must have a pretty short memory. I'm 60 and remember the car I was in being searched for bombs during the height of the IRA, drills at school in case of nuclear bomb, mortgage rates of 14%, and the recent fuel shortage was nothing compared to the 70s, and of course the Vietnam war. Plus miners strikes, poll tax riots and so on. A lying PM, idiot leaders, fuel crisis and threat of war is nothing new.

MissyB1 · 26/04/2022 09:12

NATO aren’t warning this will escalate to nuclear war, Russia are the ones talking this up. Basically it’s bully boy threats to scare the west out of supporting Ukraine.

But yes I get your point the world is in turmoil at the moment, but things will settle down at some point im
sure. And hopefully world leaders will learn a few lessons, including not ignoring bloody dangerous situations!

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/04/2022 09:13

I thought is was Russia who were doing the whole willy waving thing again re WWIII ? It seems to be their go to 'frightening phrase' at the moment.
Probably be better to spend their time working out why there are so many fires popping up at important places in their own country rather than sabre rattling at others Hmm

For me the biggest factor in making the state of the world feel the worst it’s ever been is we can watch what is happening in real time and get constant developments. We can listen to 24hr news updates, watch videos taken by people on the ground in warzones, caught up in ecological crises etc. Growing up it was the news twice a day for many year from one or two news sources. Many crises were as serious as the ones going on now, but we weren’t as aware of what was happening. When I was a kid there wasn’t constant reporting of what was going on in Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba. There weren’t videos of the everyday struggles through the coldest winter on record in 1963 or people making videos of what life was like during the miners strike in the 70s. If we had the technology then that we have now, the world would have looked just as bleak as it does now. If everyone had phones the Cuban Missile Crisis would have meant we were on the very brink of total obliteration. The full realisation of just how incredibly close we were to that, wasn’t something most of us were aware of till afterwards. Definitely, we are in a right bloody state whichever way we turn but we have been through horrific times many times and we just have to keep going, vote thoughtfully when we get the chance and hope for better times.

Chiefofstaff · 26/04/2022 09:15

Sorry that was a typo fest. I meant to say if everyone had phones and were able to record what was going on, the Cuban Missile Crisis would have been even more terrifying.

hilbil21 · 26/04/2022 09:25

It's not NATO saying it, it's Russia. Huge difference.

hilbil21 · 26/04/2022 09:26

Sorry Mumsnet had posted it three times lol.

Foolsrule · 26/04/2022 09:34

Spreading fake news isn’t really going to help anyone, is it? NATO have not said what you’re claiming.

I feel sorry for all the animals that will go with us. They don't deserve that, none of this is their fault.

I think the sun is predicted to only last for about 2 billion more years 🤔 there'll be nothing left to worry about then 😄

LemonDrizzleSlice · 26/04/2022 10:16

Well you could at least worry about stuff which actually happened. NATO have not made that warning. It's Russia trying to be big as they realise they're failing.

Yep!! I'm 61 and remember all this, although I was young enough not to give too many shits!! Also back them we didn't have social media or 24 hour rolling news channels so we worried for half an hour watching news at 10 then went àbout our normal business👍
