So Daily Mail apparently thought loss of 350 would be disastrous. Sophie Ridge reporting losses as 384. Wonder how they will spin that tomorrow.

balalake · 06/05/2022 18:30

Losses seem to be largely in Scotland, Wales and London. Not enough unfortunately for the Tory MPs to act. Wins for the Tories such as Harrow, and almost net nil gains for Labour in England outside London, all will no doubtless be used by the Tories.

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 18:31

Not a single Tory run council in Wales. I am very happy.😊

As for the Mail, it will just stick Keir's beers back on the front page.

Notonthestairs · 06/05/2022 18:33

Not sure why anyone would overlook losses in Home Counties & SW. Quite a few senior Tory MPs haunt those regions.

We still have the next episode of Partygate and the Gray report to add to Call-Me's woes.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 19:02

Well Sturgeon should be happy - the first Transwoman has been elected in Glasgow. I assume a male sex person choosing to identify as female because the pronoun She was used.

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2022 19:16

The DM are running tonight with drama over Harry and co and the upcoming jubilee. 🥱
Keir's beer is moved down a bit.

This person has a name. Elaine Gallagher. A Green Party councillor.

Menomadness · 06/05/2022 19:27

What a day! My true blue ( already mentioned here) has lost control.
I actually wasn't at all surprised. We have very strong very visible Indy candidates plus our MP is la chocolate teapot so wouldn't have been able to rally troops.
Not great for Labour - I thought they may have scrapped a further couple of seats but all in all a good day.
The local election news appears to have passed the Johnson lovers who are vocal on FB by. They are very much investing their time in events in Durham.

I think Scotland will eventually gain independence. Wales too in time. A united Ireland is on the horizon too.

What order would you put them in?

I'll for for a united Ireland first, then an independent Scotland and Wales as number 3.

jgw1 · 06/05/2022 15:47

Also Huntingdonshire council is no longer Tory - which used to include John Major's constituency.

Hurrah! That my council. I honestly never thought that would happen. Djanogly must be wetting his pants tonight.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 19:53

Ditto West Oxfordshire, which was Cameron's old Constituency. I don't know whether the chinless wonder who replaced him is getting anxious yet.

Looking back, it wasn't entirely a surprise - I have been out walking in parts of W Oxon, and I didn't see a single Tory poster. I did see a few Lib Dem ones.

Or Wokingham - I wonder if Redwood is worried? My guess would be that he will stand down at the next election.

Blossomtoes · 06/05/2022 19:54

Bloody hell, the Tories have lost Wokingham too. Yeeeesssss!

An earlier post of mine on here said that would exactly happen!

Am I only the only one a little bit bored of the Tory spanners coming on the TV and radio and saying, well they are mid term elections these things happen at that point in the electoral cycle. Do they think we are so stupid we dont realise that when these seats were last contested it was also the middle of a parliament and that they are now doing significantly worse than that?

derxa · 06/05/2022 20:04

@derxa Have you shown your support for the union by joining the Labour party yet?

That tweet thread is hilarious!

So should they not be voting ?

I laughed out loud at that. I think that may also be what was happening in W Oxfordshire too. i.e. younger voters priced out of London, (although Oxfordshire isn't cheap either, but parts of the constituency are relatively cheap compared to London.) Or in short, because the Tories haven't bothered to attempt to fix the housing crisis in the 12 years that they have been in power, it has come back to bite them on the bum.

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2022 20:21

Only conservative voters can put a cross in a box and read a ballot paper don't you know!
.. 😂

Surely that can't be the excuse in Worthing as well, I am sure there is a law there that you can't live their until you have been drawing your pension for several years.

itsgettingweird · 06/05/2022 20:24

Who knows what will happen in a GE, but I'm right now I am taking great pleasure in seeing the Tories get a bashing. So richly deserved after all the lies and corruption.

Agree with this. We all know things change in 2 years but this is a warning for the Tory's that lies and corruption don't wash.

My old head once said we would bring in polo shirts 'over his dead body'. We brought them in. He is still very much alive annoyingly

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I still get on my high horse about how a polyester blazer and tie improves learning!

And I can back it up locally as our 2 best performing schools year on year - have polo and jumper Wink

Very true. And yet they are a nightmare for equality in parking for disabled badge holders. Surprised me as the average age of population must be 75! Although that maybe the issue. Too many people needing facilities and no forthright to increase them!
