FFS it's not about beer or cake. it's about gathering illegally and then LYING about it. Keir was in a necessary work gathering, Johnson was in multiple unnecessary, and therefore illegal gatherings. Show us the footage where Starmer stands up in Parliament and says he didn't drink a beer and/or there was no meeting and then we can discuss it properly.

PortiaFimbriata · 25/04/2022 07:49

I've had an idea, and I thought I'd run it past a politics-minded thread.

There's about 270 male Tory MPs. Do you reckon it would be possible/worthwhile to find a MNer in each of their consitituencies to write to them saying "I'm extremely disappointed by the behaviour of whoever was talking to the Mail on Sunday about Angela Rayner, could you please reassure me as my MP that it wasn't you?"

Could be quite interesting.

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2022 08:10

I've had a scroll through Twitter this morning. A number of comments on The Times story about the Gray report. Alastair Campbell suggesting that he/supporter of Johnson may have planted that story to manage expectations.

And a couple of comments saying if Johnson is backed in to a corner he is more likely to call a snap election than resign.

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 09:43

Please God, let this be true!

Roussette · 25/04/2022 10:21

Yes, but.... have the general population learned enough? I'm not sure. Listen to this on LBC, a woman calling Angela Rayner a prostitute for daring to wear a dress in the HoC.
We're fucked whilst people like this exist in the country.
How he kept his cool, god alone knows

God that is depressing.

Sadly I think the Tories would still win a general election, but their majority in England would hopefully decrease.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2022 10:45

Lots of female MPs wear dresses in the commons though ? A R's dresses are not short or anything, not low cut or inappropriate etc
Theresa may used to wear a dress with a jacket when she was the PM , same as Angela does when she on the front benches at PMQs as most of the female ones do. Do we want them all wearing trousers or suits ?
Obviously that caller has an axe to grind :(
Horrible person.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2022 10:47

I agree that a ' snap ' election wouldn't change much :(
I can't see Boris Johnson or the conservatives going anywhere despite everything that has gone on.

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2022 10:56

A snap election would almost certainly mean 4 more years of Johnson. The Conservatives would get in and Johnson would be unassailable.

Roussette · 25/04/2022 11:11

I do think their majority would be greatly reduced... those red wall northern seats have seen no levelling up and are pretty hacked off and their majorities are small

Gosh, feminism really passed that woman by.

Don't tell Engels that men have 'ogled women since the dawn of time'...he says capitalism invented the patriarchy.

I’m not convinced but I’m happy not to argue that one until we’ve seen the 5 May and Wakefield by-election results.

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2022 11:47

I'd be happy to be wrong! I do think with an election win albeit with a reduced majority Johnson would cling on and wait it out.
It would hurt the Conservatives as a whole but strengthen his hand (the people want me to get on with the job etc etc).

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 11:51

I think he’s sick of it if he’s honest. His premiership has been a very long way from the golden age he envisioned and I suspect that, if offered a way out that would save his face, he’d take it.

He might even be faced with a minority government situation like Theresa May was.

Brilliant thread here - twitter.com/RussInCheshire/status/1518541475335790592

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2022 12:24

It's the old ' red wall ' voters the other parties need to win round if there is a snap election : it all hinges on them and how they feel about the conservative leadership and if it's worth carrying on with them in power.
I can't see many being convinced by KS either to be honest ( thats just my opinion though ) but who knows?
I live in a true-blue tory area , I can't see an upset here :(
The 5th may council elections might give a bit of an answer though. Might be interesting

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2022 12:37

That WeekinTory thread is EXHAUSTING Grin

Cornettoninja · 25/04/2022 12:37

It reads to me that he is weaponising a general election and gambling on the fact that many previous Tory voters also won’t vote Labour and either vote an independent or Liberal/Green (which are no threat to him) or abstain, both leaving him with a majority to retain power, not a large majority - either from the actual turnout or eligible electorate - but a majority. He knows the public rarely take note of the finer figures that make these things up.

He understands the game and the public and I can’t argue against this logic because it’s demonstrably true. It’s an insult but it’s what happens.

Cornettoninja · 25/04/2022 12:39

From Russ Jone’s Twitter:

16. He then ignored the cost-of-living crisis, and bravely flew off to India, cos he urgently needed to sign absolutely no new trade deals.

😁😒

In its way, the nonsense about Rayner shows how little faith even Johnson's supporters have in him. No-one ever for one moment made a fuss about the dreadful prospect of seeing the legs of, say, Edwina Currie, Harriet Harman, Tessa Jowell, Yvette Cooper, LizTruss, Nadine Dorries, Justine Greening, Amber Rudd etc because previous male PMs were deemed to be capable of doing their jobs without being distracted. Likewise Thatcher and May were able to cope with anyone who cared to manspread on the opposition benches. Yet poor little Johnson is extra susceptible and can't possibly control his urges, so it's utterly reprehensible of Rayner to dare to have legs, wear a skirt and sit opposite him.

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 12:45

Fulmine · 25/04/2022 12:24

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the exact physical intersection between the concept of rickets and a cursed dildo, told parliament the Brexit treaty he had insisted was brilliant in 2019 was now invalid, because the govt had its fingers cross when it signed 😂

Everyone with a vote should be forced to read RussinCheshire every week.

I hate Nadine Dorries with every fibre of my being (she's my MP) but do have to say that there has been a lot of rather puerile coverage of her 'batting her eyelids' at Johnson, flirting with him and suggestions she fancies him. (However, it was she who said women should wear heels at work).

I agree re the other women.

(That said, I would not be surprised if she were the 'anonymous source'!)

I'm wondering why he accepted that invitation given that with Tory Home he's now officially the least popular member of the Cabinet. He's going to be slaughtered.
