Look what my hen laid this morning. She must be waddling a bit poor girl but what an incredible effort!
I'll have it later - I bet it's a double yolker 😂

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/04/2022 10:51

Sorry, Shock (I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning.)

user47 · 23/04/2022 10:53

I'm very proud of her - what an effort. She's 5 this year so getting in a bit for this kind of malarkey

Ohh I haven't had any big eggs for ages, that's a good one.
These pics are a few years ago.

@Chasingsquirrels that is an absolute whopper! Outrageous. One of mine once did a triple yolker but no one believes me because I just ate it!

Wow- eggcellent !

Chasingsquirrels · 23/04/2022 10:58

🤣
I've taken pics of big eggs, but never the insides once cracked.
New hens atm, so smaller eggs

user47 · 23/04/2022 10:59

Ouchie!

user47 · 23/04/2022 11:00

@Chasingsquirrels any double yolkers? I love it when they start laying and go a bit berserk. I had a tiny little Maran a few years ago that laid 9 eggs in a week - all double yolkers. She's stopped laying now but what a legend.

That's impressive! I need to know how many yolks Grin DH tells me it's possible for eggs of that size to have another egg inside and now I'm like Shock

user47 · 23/04/2022 11:03

@Chasingsquirrels that white one is so long, it would be ideal for the inside of a traditional gala pie. A genuine long egg - not the product of bizarre food processing! www.vice.com/en/article/3k5w89/i-am-mystified-and-horrified-by-the-long-egg

Yes, this true. Also eggs with no shells, and the dreaded, truly terrible lash egg - I've never had one of these but have heard tales....

Wish I handy Googled lash egg.. 😷

Chasingsquirrels · 23/04/2022 11:14

I'm v impressed at 9 in a week (poor thing though).

Not had any doubles for a while, used to get quite a few.

vipersnest1 · 23/04/2022 11:17

Or it might be an egg in an egg....

She must have been exhausted, I agree. She also stopped laying at approx 2.5years so is not living the life of a spoiled corn-fed pensioner hen, bossing everyone around and being in charge.
My dad used to hit the coop at night with a stick to encourage double yolkers - apparently fear makes them lay more - but I am both suspicious of his 'wisdom' and think it is cruel to terrify the poor things into a more productive life, so mine live a terror free existence.
