Look what my hen laid this morning. She must be waddling a bit poor girl but what an incredible effort!
I'll have it later - I bet it's a double yolker 😂

I don’t know why but this makes me feel slightly queasy!

Could somebody please tell me what a 'lash egg' is? I really don't want to Google it.....

I googled it. Gross. Looks like a cheesy scotch egg.

”A particularly nasty surprise to find in a chicken coop, a lash egg is an egg-shaped mass of tissue, pus and yolk-like material. Expelled by a chicken (in the same manner as an egg), it’s typically a symptom of a bacterial infection, and it has caught many chicken owners by surprise.”

One of my girls is having the opposite problem and keeps laying fart eggs.

Are you sure you haven't got any wild dinosaurs in the area. There could be an angry mama one searching for her baby....

Lastsecondfail · 23/04/2022 11:51

This is probably a stupid question but would a double yoker- if fertilized yield twin chicks 🧐🤓

Yep! :)

pussycatlickinglollyices · 23/04/2022 12:46

It must have been like pushing out a toddler...poor girl.

Cocolapew · 23/04/2022 12:53

Wow! Poor chicken 🐔.
I had a half a dozen double yokers from the same box. It was the greatest week of my life.

Yes, this true. Also eggs with no shells, and the dreaded, truly terrible lash egg - I've never had one of these but have heard tales....

Eugh. I just googled lash egg, having never heard of one before. Hugely regret it, most horrific things I’ve ever seen. Definitely a good reason for me to never keep chickens, couldn’t risk one of them being laid!

user47 · 23/04/2022 14:01

Double yolker!!
Eaten now

This is adorable!

The big one is wildly impressive, but makes me feel a bit queasy, too!

I read recently that eggs have got bigger over recent years but chickens' fannys (I don't know the correct term) haven't , and ever since then I've only bought organic mixed eggs, not my usual boxes of Large. Fellow feeling, I suppose.

Rubyred7 · 23/04/2022 15:00

Ooh that’s big! Ever seen an ostrich egg - they’re a bit posh

I used to see Ostrich eggs in Waitrose. I always wanted to buy one. But the I watched YouTube videos of how to crack them and I think it requires a drill. And the giant yolk was kind of repulsive for some reason.

WhereTheBodiesAre · 23/04/2022 15:23

Maybe OPs chicken has some Ostrich family lineage way back that flares up every now and again. 🥚

loveliesbleeding1 · 23/04/2022 15:42

Do you have to give her any after care? Poor chicken and her sore foof.

user47 · 23/04/2022 17:17

I have many many ostrich eggs - all empty and cleaned though. I ate one once and it was not very nice, a bit 'gamey' bleerrghhh

The fart egg is a mini tragedy - no yolk at all!

Ah we do pass a farm that sells Ostrich eggs and did wonder about them. I suppose they would be ideal for an omelette

Thedogshouses · 23/04/2022 17:25

Wow that's huge. Poor girl! Totally random but when I lived in Saudi I came across a flamingo protecting her eggs. I still have the scar to prove it 😀

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 23/04/2022 17:26

I bought a dozen eggs from the farmers market once and they were all double yolkers 😮

user47 · 23/04/2022 19:29

Living the dream there @ItsJustTheOneSwanActually ..... I wonder what a swans egg tastes like....

That’s gross that an Ostrich egg tastes gamely. Did you ever see the Keith Floyd episode where he tried to cook an ostrich egg while surrounded by irritated and angry ostriches?

I don’t know about Swan eggs but we eat chicken, duck and quail eggs and I can’t tell any difference in their flavours Blush
