I solved today's Redactle (#16) in 61 guesses with an accuracy of 73.77%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I am so pleased with this that I have started this thread 😀🤗

@MrsElm I have idea how to decide what words are promising so no. I don’t understand how you can work it out so am just making wild guesses. Looking forward to finding what today’s answer is in the hope it will clarify things a little.

Andante57 · 23/04/2022 16:06

Many thanks, op, for introducing me to this extremely enjoyable puzzle. A late train and subsequent long journey passed in a flash thanks to you.
Once I got one word relating to the topic I was away.

Okbutnotgreat · 23/04/2022 17:50

Ok well it’s changed and I’m still clueless and can’t find the answer anywhere, can someone tell what it was please?

Manzana · 23/04/2022 17:52

Thanks for the link, have not come across this before. I had no clue what I was doing so entered random common words & hit upon one that was a huge clue, so did it in 225 guesses and also learnt something new 😀

So with the grand experience of one redactle, these are some of my thoughts.

Think about the sort of things that appear in wikipedia - people, places, things, concepts. Is there a way to narrow it down to a broad category? So a category on a particular plant or animal is likely to contain words like species, evolution, distribution, habitat etc.

Think about the wording that wikipedia uses. Articles are generally about things that have happened so try to use past tense words. An article about a place is unlikely to have the word locate, but much more likely to have located or location.

enjoyed that.

VivienneDelacroix · 23/04/2022 18:02

I love this.
It took me 269 today - not an area I have experience in.
Yesterday I was around 60, thanks to a lucky guess which led me to George Sand and then to the target.
The day before I was totally stuck but my 12 year old got it for me.

Yesterday's was Chopin.

I solved today's Redactle (#17) in 39 guesses with an accuracy of 66.67%. Played at www.redactle.com/

My “rules” to myself are that if I basically know what the answer is, but don’t know what it is called (eg I know it is the geological epoch after the Pleistocene but have no idea what that is so would never be able to get it) I am allowed to Google! So today I got the last word of the answer, knew what it was referring to, and Googled the full answer - although in this case I might have been able to get it eventually.

CharityShopChic · 23/04/2022 18:17

So I got the wrong end of the stick with this one. I thought the idea was to fill in all the blanks.

Still fun though.

I solved today's Redactle (#17) in 312 guesses with an accuracy of 36.86%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Fun one that although I went totally in the wrong direction for a while!

User12398712 · 23/04/2022 18:24

Aaargh, so the new one is much harder. I'm on 156 and have a vague idea of the area I am looking at but know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing so am stabbing somewhat blindly in the dark.

AliasGrape · 23/04/2022 18:26

I knew I couldn’t do it again, about 160 guesses in and managed to find a total of 4 words - no idea!

Coord · 23/04/2022 18:30

Got redactal 17 in 168 guesses. There's no way I would have got it without googling, once I had enough to go on.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/04/2022 18:37

Thanks, OP! Hadn't seen this one before. I now do Wordle, Worldle, Quordle and Globle daily. Will probably add this one, at least occasionally. Took me a while to get the hang of it, but I feel it works better than Semantle.

User12398712 · 23/04/2022 18:45

223 - 31.39%

Ooh, that was tricky. And I had to resort to google again as I had filled enough gaps to know (roughly) what the subject was and one of the words but had no idea of what it was actually called.

I'm also a bit annoyed with myself that I didn't pluralise one of my guesses despite knowing it was a key word which would have helped enormously.

I like this rule. I got Chopin really quickly yesterday but had no idea what his first name was and wouldn't have got it in a million years, especially with the foreign spelling.

I introduced a limitation on it today though. I knew one word again and knew roughly what the answer was so allowed myself to google but didn't allow myself to jump straight into a wikipedia entry and try and jump link from there.

I made the same mistake with the plural.

Wow! Couple of lucky guesses and then it was just a case of working through likely associated words.
