What would you serve with Boeuf Bourgignon ?

I'm having this for dinner layer this week and I've decided on mixed vegetables and...Yorkshire puddings. Now, this might sound strange or sacrilegious but BB is essentially a beef casserole so YPs are, in my opinion, a reasonable accompaniment.

Is there a more traditional side dish for BB?
What would you have ?

I really like Boulanger potatoes and green beans! It's not as creamy as dauphinois potato but I prefer it.

DeliaOwens · 18/04/2022 21:05

Bourguignon is traditionally served with steamed or boiled potatoes, but we eat with mash. You could try buttered noodles or rice. Or if you are feeling non traditional Potatoes Boulangeres.

Mash and green beans traditionally but have what you want. Life's too short.

There's a great recipe on the BBC site (I think it's Rachel Khoo) for BB with dumplings made by soaking baguette in milk. They are AMAZING. So that's what I'd have. And tenderstem brocoli.

MarshaBradyo · 18/04/2022 21:15

A few new potatoes, green beans and crusty bread

3peassuit · 18/04/2022 21:16

Mash and green veg.

ThackeryBinks · 18/04/2022 21:56

I quite like it with skinny fries and my new favourite oven roasted broccoli.

DeePlume · 18/04/2022 22:08

I had it with fries in France it was absolutely delicious!

Garlic bread

nearlyspringyay · 18/04/2022 23:14

Rice and tender stem broccoli

Bouledeneige · 18/04/2022 23:15

Potato and celeriac mash. Yummy

RewildingAmbridge · 18/04/2022 23:42

Mash and green veg of some kind.
New potatoes and tender stem broccoli.
Left overs in a bowl with crusty bread or on top of a jacket potato.

Did have it with rice once when I'd asked DH to get some batch cooked curry out of the freezer to defrost for dinner, put rice on, went to warm the defrosted 'curry' only to realise it was BB, had it with some steamed veg and the rice and it was actually quite nice. I think anything too creamy would be overkill, but although very buttery, good hasselback potatoes could probably work again with green veg to cut through it all

AdaColeman · 18/04/2022 23:50

Great with colcannon, especially with spring cabbage being in season right now.
Also good with crushed butter beans.

Alwayscheerful · 19/04/2022 08:53

M always serve Dauphinois, green beans and roasted Carrots.

Parmesan mash sounds tempting too.

speakout · 19/04/2022 08:55

Anyone craving Boeuf Bourgignon now?

I'd welcome a recipe.

WildRosie · 19/04/2022 10:14

I'm afraid I can't help with a recipe, speakout, as mine is from the supermarket. As are the Yorkshire puddings! I expect there's umpteen recipes out there, hopefully not all of which call for actual red Burgundy, which can be pricey.

KnottyKnitting · 19/04/2022 10:22

We usually have this with green veg and rice

AlwaysLatte · 19/04/2022 10:25

I usually do scalloped potatoes with it. Or crusty homemade bread.

boronia · 19/04/2022 10:34

Mash made with loads of cream and butter.
Green beans.

MummyJ12 · 19/04/2022 12:35

This is the recipe I use @speakout

As various potato dishes are being mentioned, how about roast potatoes ? If I'm going down the YP route I may as well continue in a similar vein!

By the way, I'm cheating with the vegetables too. It's a mix of broccoli, sweetcorn, carrot and green beans, courtesy of Waitrose. Microwave in the bag for four minutes and done.
