What would you serve with Boeuf Bourgignon ?

I'm having this for dinner layer this week and I've decided on mixed vegetables and...Yorkshire puddings. Now, this might sound strange or sacrilegious but BB is essentially a beef casserole so YPs are, in my opinion, a reasonable accompaniment.

Is there a more traditional side dish for BB?
What would you have ?

Mine is nearly finished cooking. Carrots have been in from the start. I'll fry the mushrooms in butter and garlic and add to warm through about five minutes before the end.

Mashed potatoes. I like peas so I'll do them too.

Ohdofuckofdear · 18/04/2022 19:03

Mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans, it's what we're having for dinner tonight.

WildRosie · 18/04/2022 19:03

Thankyou for your abundant suggestions. I can promise you now that I won't be doing mash potato as I absolutely cannot abide it. Tagliatelle sounds interesting though. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Mashed potatoes and green beans, lightly steamed.

Phos · 18/04/2022 19:07

Mash and green beans, maybe some peas.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 18/04/2022 19:08

Dauphinoise potatoes or a good buttery mash or French bread or garlic bread...and greens...

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2022 19:08

DH makes fabulous beef bourguignon in large quantities to freeze. He's not keen on potatoes (other than my roast with a joint) so we usually just have veg and some bread. But recently he's realised he can stick a few Aunt Bessie's puds in the oven to have with it. Also with something like lamb shanks. It may be 'wrong', but if he calls me in from a hard digging or hacking session in the garden and serves this, it's absolutely perfect.Grin

Always rice in our house!

lollipoprainbow · 18/04/2022 19:11

Creamy mash and green beans

VerbenaGirl · 18/04/2022 19:14

I’d have said mash, but I think it’s quite forgiving and I’d give Yorkshires a whirl.

speakout · 18/04/2022 19:15

New potatoes, rice or crusty bread.
With some green veg.

MummyJ12 · 18/04/2022 19:15

Dauphinoise potatoes, green beans, peas with pancetta. Some crispy bread and lots of wine!

mbosnz · 18/04/2022 19:18

Mashed potatoes, with baby carrots, fine beans, and asparagus.

pandora206 · 18/04/2022 19:18

Tenderstem broccoli and crusty French bread with lots of butter.

Alternatively some crispy baked potatoes instead of the bread.

MajesticElephant · 18/04/2022 19:18

I like it with rice. I can see why people would serve mash but I hate the stuff. Yorkies is an unusual choice.

WildRosie · 18/04/2022 19:18

Red wine (South African Cabernet Sauvignon in this case) goes without saying. I'm amazed at the love for mash - it must be just me.

I reckon BB + Yorkshire puds is the best of 'fusion food', and probably should be the signature dish of Le Tour de Yorkshire. (My spell check tried to turn 'le' into 'ale' .... it occurs to me puds would also work well with beef in ale if you CBA to make pastry.)

SatinHeart · 18/04/2022 19:31

Mash and a green vegetable or two (probably broccol and green beans) for me

speakout · 18/04/2022 19:33

Not sure about the yorkshires.
BB is very rich, densely flavoured, yorkshires are stogey, also dense and oily.
I like something light with a heavy dish, steamed greens or new potatoes.

itsgettingweird · 18/04/2022 19:38

dauphinoise potatoes, carrots and white steamed cabbage

JennyForeigner · 18/04/2022 19:39

Mini jacket potatoes, extra crispy.

Family birthday tradition!

Anna197264 · 18/04/2022 19:43

I would always say rice or jacket potato but I love the idea of a Yorkshire pudding.

CornishGem1975 · 18/04/2022 19:45

@speakout you're making your Yorkies all wrong!

KitKattaktik · 18/04/2022 19:50

Mashed potatoes, green beans.
A good red wine.

Cheese and biscuits for dessert.

Bliss.

JennyForeigner · 18/04/2022 19:53
