Willy wonka - Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp??

The DC have listed to the story and want to watch the film. I've only seen the 1971 version. I usually like Johnny Depp but wasnt convinced by the trailer, but wonder if the dc would prefer the modern version.

There's too many shit songs you need to fast forward in the Gene Wilder one. Cheer Up Charlie gives me the fucking rage.
The GW takes too long to get to the chocolate factory bit as well.

Argh. We're watching the newer version. The DC need something to get their attention, I hadntbthight I'd the old one being slow. I might have to watch it on my own.

In general, I'm much more in favour of the "classic" version of something, but have to admit that although I watched the Gene Wilder version a lot as a kid, I wouldn't be in a rush to watch it again now and think the Tim Burton version is the better film and much closer to the spirit of the original novel.

The bit where he comes out of the factory at the beginning, limping with a stick, and then does a somersault, and bounces back up again, was entirely Wilder's idea,

Gene Wilder, i usually prefer the original of most things, but I do think Johnny Depp also done a pretty good job

Roald Dahl hated the original.
The newer one is much closer to the actual book with some added modernisation.

I really dislike Gene Wilder I find him very creepy. The Johnny Depp version is much more faithful to the original book, but yes I will say Pure Imagination is a fab song!
I find Gene Wilder creepy, too.

My DD loves the Johnny Depp version. I think she can recite it by heart. I showed her the Gene Wilder version but she wasn't interested.
