What's for dinner on this beautiful Good Friday?!

What lovely weather! Such a nice change.

We're having burgers every which way - which means the girls will have a beef, bacon and bbq sauce burger which has absolutely no contact with anything that could be accused of being a vegetable.

DH and I will be having chicken satay burgers - yum!

Washed down with a nice NZ sav' blanc. . .

A posh ready meal from the Trose. Mushroom macaroni. It looks nice enough, hope it tastes good too. I bought it because it was marked down because that's how I roll.

Leftover from my Catholic upbringing is the thing of just never eating meat on Good Friday. It's totally ingrained. There is no reason why I couldn't these days but it just never happens.

We had gammon, egg, chips and beans on out new decking furniture. Still sitting drinking pouilly-fume (reduced in Aldi and delicious!) at it; we have had to put the heater on though! Martin Kemp on the radio - even his voice is sexy!

Had a picnic for lunch which was lovely - feels like summer! Grin

I had leftover Chinese, then ice cream and cake. Eating my feelings.

We want to a lovely pub we haven’t been too before. Had a fab mixed grill and DH had a salt beef & cheese burger. Brilliant service and even better I don’t have to wash up!

upinaballoon · 15/04/2022 20:52

Sadly, it was cold cooked fish cake and a bit of salad. Happily, I was safe at home, no-one shelling where I live, and I could afford the food and it was reasonable nutrition although not very exciting.

BooksAndHooks · 15/04/2022 20:53

Fish and chips at lunchtime on good Friday then boiled eggs and soldiers or hot cross buns for tea.

Butteredtoast55 · 15/04/2022 20:59

A lovely veggie rigatoni with mushrooms, lemon and creme fraiche.

Dinoboymama · 15/04/2022 21:01

I didn't eat dinner tonight, had half an Easter egg.

Alot are saying no meat but eating fish. Fish is meat so that's confused me as DD is a vegetarian and will not eat it fish.

We had grown up DC and partners arriving to stay, so had a traditional Good Friday supper of two different kinds of salmon - poached in wine with lemon and dill or roasted with ginger, sweet chilli and soy, with garlic potato wedges, peas cooked with leeks and mint, steamed veg, with smoked tofu fried in sesame seeds for the veggies. Then lavender and orange curd cake for dessert with some miniature chocolate bunnies while we played games afterwards. And wine, G&Ts and some strange but lovely Greek liqueur. I am definitely joining the no-drinking group on here once Easter is over.

Prawn risotto - using homemade stock made from prawn and langoustine shells.

Brioche bread and butter pudding made with blueberries/raspberries and served with loads of cream

Quite a lot of Rioja.

Oh how very Mumsnet of you 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry if this is genuine 🙈

RussianSpy101 · 15/04/2022 21:52

@forlornlorna @ImanAccountant they look awful. I hope you’re both better soon!

My parents, sister & BIL and nephew have been round for fish and chips.

Gindrinker43 · 15/04/2022 21:53

Fish pie and greens as it's Good Friday

RussianSpy101 · 15/04/2022 21:54

@Dinoboymama Catholics don’t eat meat on Fridays, especially not Good Friday.
Fish is the go to.

RussianSpy101 · 15/04/2022 21:55

Posted too soon!
Fish is go to on Fridays and traditional on Good Friday.

StrawberryPot · 15/04/2022 22:06

@Germolenequeen - yes it is genuine. Sorry if that causes offence 🤷‍♀️

We had a rare treat a few weeks ago with some lovely local shellfish. I made stock with them as it makes a huge difference to the taste of a risotto.

Devonchills · 15/04/2022 22:06

We had crusty fresh baguette, brie, pate and grapes.

TheLadyDIdGood · 15/04/2022 22:11

Fish pie and greens but not for religious reasons because I'm not Catholic. We're eating through the freezer before the big defrost and clean out. So the fish pie mix was one of the very few things left in the freezer! We then had a lovely M&S fresh cream Victoria sponge with apple compote filling.

TroysMammy · 15/04/2022 22:17

Fennel, saffron and lemon risotto with hake cutlets on top.

FrenchyQ · 15/04/2022 22:20

My lot had kippers for breakfast. So had homemade pizza on the BBQ this evening.

Belindabelle · 15/04/2022 22:56

I am an atheist but a lover of tradition so it has to be fish on Good Friday.

We has Arbroath Smokies (bought in Arbroath) with Jersey Royals and a watercress salad.

Now having an M&S Hot Cross Bun Liquer and some mini eggs.

FunnysInLaJardin · 15/04/2022 22:58

homemade blinis, lovely smoked salmon, caviar aka lumpfish roe! and creme fraiche with chips. Twas delish

BookFiend4Life · 15/04/2022 23:38

Sushi and champagne! Our babe hit a milestone this week we never thought she would, so we're celebrating! Dumplings for her :)
