Do you think the queen is really poorly?

As in dying 😔. I know she is very old and fragile at 95 but I do wonder if she is trying to keep going until the Royal jubilee.

whoops - did not mean to post that

Peregrina · 10/05/2022 05:47

Thats over a month ago. I can’t remember how she looked then.
Was this the time that she was escorted by Prince Andrew? His presence rather took the attention from how the Queen looked.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 10/05/2022 06:08

I am sceptical she will make it to her own Jubilee celebrations. What a life she has led!

96 is amazing - she deserves a rest

urkidding · 10/05/2022 06:37

She has a huge PR machine and control of the press, and puts a large amount of her money abroad. While we are all struggling, she is putting her money abroad (as revealed by the Paradise papers), and transferring money to her children and grand children without any taxation because she has used her influence to avoid tax for years while her father was given a short concession not to pay tax after the war to support his Nazi supporting brother in France. The Queen had used her influence not to pay any tax for years, and still does not pay inheritance tax, while our children will be in debt with student loans, and high house prices. She thinks she is untouchable, thereby the Andrew 12m payment.

I think she’s saving her energy for the jubilee celebrations a few weeks time.

Sharrowgirl · 10/05/2022 06:53

Interesting that the monarch’s official duties can only be fulfilled by the counsellors of state and it needs to be two at a time. Given that Andrew and Harry are two of the four of them, William and Charles are going to be rather busy! Plus there are some things that only the monarch can do.

megletthesecond · 10/05/2022 06:58

I was surprised to hear that Harry, and especially Andrew are still counsellors of state. I wonder if Anne and / or Edward can be given the role?

MintyMoocow · 10/05/2022 07:01

I do not and never have envied her!

Imagine being 96yo and having the whole world speculating about when you are going to die?

I hope she is leading a quiet, peaceful existence with a few dogs around her, looking forward to her jubilee.

Harry and Meghan have caused so much stress to the Royal family. I find if hard to believe that they have not caused her worry and great sadness. Not good at the Queens age for sure.

She's nearly 96, far older than most of her generation get to be, ffs. Whatever's wrong with her is far more likely to be due to her age than anything to do with "worry and sadness".

Although it does seem to be quite common among very elderly couples that when one dies, the other follows not long after.

H&M only spent 15 minutes with Her Maj according to one of the household staff. They were en route to the Invictus Games.

Incorrect. Unless of course you know the member of the household staff? All the reports say they spent 'the morning' but don't let that get in the way of you turning this into an H&M bashing thread. At her age I doubt anyone spends a whole day with the Queen as that would be so tiring for her.

The Queen is 96, she may well be bedridden for all we know. We won't see much of her now, and really not sure if she will make an appearance at her jubilee.

LakieLady · 10/05/2022 07:28

Frazzled2207 · 14/04/2022 21:44

No but she’s very frail
She’s done far better than any other 95 yo I know
Should be allowed to just retire now

I was just comparing her to my friend's mother, who is 93. Friend's mother can't walk without a frame, sleeps much of the time, and is very frail, although still very with it mentally.

She has carers in twice a day on weekdays, to help her get up, shower and dress, and in the evening to give her a meal and get her into bed. Friend stays with her Thurs-Monday, but lives and works 40 miles away, so can't move in to care for her full-time.

I think the Queen may well be nearing the end. The loss of her husband will have been a huge blow, I still haven't recovered from the loss of my partner 18 months ago, and I'm 30 years younger than her.

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2022 07:33

When the Queen does eventually die (and I have no idea of her state of health) I think Mumsnet will be unbearable for a while.

Terfydactyl · 10/05/2022 07:43

Georgeskitchen · 14/04/2022 21:48

She is very frail and stooped. She looks like a lady who is nearly 96. She has definitely declined since Philip died. She probably just wishes to be reunited with him x

I said to my OH that she probably just wants to join her husband now.

FWIW I don't think she is ill as such, just frail now.
My neighbours got to 96 and 99 respectively and up until that point they had been quite lively, going out, doing their own shopping etc and one day they both just stopped. Sad to say a couple of months later they had died but honestly at 96 and 99 what would you expect.
The queen has done enough. I'm not big on the royal family, but even I can see she should quit now, should have quit some time ago in fact.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/05/2022 07:50

i imagine she wants to reach the jubilee and then step down/or not

CrunchyCarrot · 10/05/2022 07:51

I don't think she is ill or 'dying' as some have speculated - I do think she's a frail 96 yr old with what sounds like either osteo or rheumatoid arthritis. She's also had a particularly tough past year and it's obvious from looking at her that she has declined physically. However mentally she's still bright as a button and is obviously still engaging with her reduced duties and surroundings. That said, I'd give her around 1-2 yrs more before she passes, I don't think she'll live as long as her mother did.

'spent the morning' was announced by the Sussex's spokesperson, other reports say it was 30 minutes with Charles and 30 minutes with The Queen.

No one really knows, although I do think the 1 hour is likely be more accurate than 'spent the morning'.

Roussette · 10/05/2022 08:03

Strange I saw different on a few reports but this thread isn't about them is it?

themessygarden · 10/05/2022 08:16

"this thread isn't about them is it?"

Exactly ........ however, as a disclaimer, you were the only one to pick up on on a comment that no one else reacted to and add information that is also just as likely to be 'incorrect' !

Ok 😂🙈 @MVision
Press are not given the ‘nod’ in these circumstances 😂😂😂

They absolutely are. It’s in the palace’s interest too that the coverage is impeccable.

DingleyDel · 10/05/2022 08:29

What happens if she doesn’t make the jubilee? We have a friend who runs a small local music festival who claims that when HM dies all public events have to be cancelled. I was flabbergasted. So we must all go into enforced mourning? Imagine if something like Glastonbury had to be cancelled again after 2 years missed due to the pandemic! I mean is this really something that could be enforced? I was furious enough that they closed Wisley gardens when Phillip died and caused the most almighty traffic jam. I think cancelling events that people have been looking forward too for years would actually cause riots.

Covid is awful. I’m a healthy 37 year old and it completely messed me up. She is 95!

I think this is the truth of it.

SueSaid · 10/05/2022 08:35

'What happens if she doesn’t make the jubilee? We have a friend who runs a small local music festival who claims that when HM dies all public events have to be cancelled.'

What?! Surely not. I'd hope any mourning would be optional. I've nothing against the Queen but I dread the ott arrangements and the days and weeks of 24/7 footage on the telly of her life, it will be relentless.

There's no enforceable power to do this.

Wheresthebeach · 10/05/2022 08:39

I think Covid has knocked the stuffing out of her. Recover can be long even for healthy people - we're all ignoring it at the moment. Its not a cold, and it can take weeks to recover.

I hope she makes it to the Jubilee and then abdicates and hands everything to Charles.
