Do you think the queen is really poorly?

As in dying 😔. I know she is very old and fragile at 95 but I do wonder if she is trying to keep going until the Royal jubilee.

If the queen dies on a bank holiday does that mean we won’t get an extra bank holiday or do you think they’ll make a memorial bank holiday later?
Also I had my money on Attenborough going before the queen

Apparently they've left archie and lily bet at home. Such a shame as the Queen very unlikely to be a le to visit them in the US. I hope they come back with the children.

When I was a child I liked the royal family but now at 50 years old I can see they’re just parasites. Even the queen mother was an evil old bat (she apparently hated her public) but it suited her to look and act like everyone’s favourite grandma.

Agreed. 'The nation's favourite grandmother' was a nauseating epithet. By all accounts, she was a caustic old boot.

Along with what I suspect to be the vast majority of the nation I reserve the right to prefer my own grandmother.

AnastasiaRomanov · 15/04/2022 01:12
@viques I am no fan of Sarah Ferguson. But she had a shit divorce settlement, so had to earn money. Some of the ways she earned money were very dubious, the same as Andrew.
She could have retrained to do something she loved, and earned her living like any other woman. Instead she chose to hang onto Andrews coat tails and milk him for all she could. All the while looking up at him adoringly and prattling on about what a gent he is. They are a loathsome pair.
She had enough for a mortgage free house and her girls were looked after.

@SpringIsSprung1

Harry and Meghan have caused so much stress to the Royal family. I find if hard to believe that they have not caused her worry and great sadness. Not good at the Queens age for sure.
More stress than that scumbag son of hers? Give over! Hmm
Peaness · 15/04/2022 01:19

@BoredZelda

Harry and Megan coming over with no fanfare or warning after saying they would do nothing of the sort surely tells us something.

Or, given the issues around security, they did it quietly for their safety. Or, if they made a big deal of it, there would be more shit written about them in the press. Or, not everything they do needs to be reported to us.

Exactly. There would have been a media circus around them if they had announced their visit. Tell everyone they're not coming so keep the media at bay. They can then come in for a private visit and have it announced once they have left. No media scrum when visiting granny who wants a quiet life following the loss of her husband and recovering from covid. I suspect it was probably always the plan as they were coming to Europe and actually a very respectful thing to do.

Harry specifically said he was going to visit HM as soon as he could . So it wasn’t unexpected. They walked to Windsor past a coachload of people attending the Maundy Monday service . Which they knew was happening. So not exactly keeping out of the public eye.

AnastasiaRomanov · 15/04/2022 01:26
@AnastasiaRomanov initially earned money by being the face of WeightWatchers, and got lambasted by lots of people for it.
Her girls were not looked after. £15k a year is not enough to raise them, so she had to work. Did you expect her to get a job as a shop assistant? She is not qualified or like the rest of the Royal family that bright.
An ordinary woman in that situation would have got a job as a carer or shop assistant, or working in a factory. But she couldn't get those jobs as security would have been a nightmare.
The school fees were paid. Are you really saying she could only get a job as a carer or shop assistant? Lots of thick women with her background manage to get jobs! She had the best networking opportunity possible and money for retraining.
@viques - I think it must be really difficult to find a new space when you've been a member of the RF.

Especially as"the spare", weirdly close to the crown, but not really.

Add the fact that he isn't... the most academic of men, and the peculiar level of attention he's grown up with, I really don't know how I'd expect anyone to handle that.

Throw in the dramatic loss of his mum, the catalogue of every moment of his dad's life, and there is literally nothing normal for him to hang on to.

I think it's wonderful that H &M clearly adore each other, but honestly, I can't help thinking he would've found a simpler path to follow if he'd married someone "sensible" who knew the system.

I'm absolutely not anti Meghan, I just think their life seems SO complicated!!
What is your idea of ‘sensible’?
Harry would have ended up alone if he had waited for someone who knew the ‘system’.
Look how much criticism Kate got when she was with William, . All that Waity Katy nonsense . No woman who knew the ‘system’ would willingly put herself in that situation, which is why Cressida left Harry. She couldn’t cope with the constant press intrusion
Harry found Meghan who was basically everything he wanted and they appear to adore each other .

She's had a good innings.

I don't think Charles or anyone should follow her though. Let the monarchy end with her

RonaldMcDonald · 15/04/2022 02:31

I think Harry did the only sensible thing, once the military as a career was closed to him.
Offering to continue to meaningfully help as a royal but also offer a blend of work and perhaps living elsewhere- as tons of other monarchies in Europe welcome for their spares. This made sense to me. Imagine 40 yrs stretching ahead of opening libraries or whatever.
I think the BRF massively misstepped in not allowing them to step away from the endless scrutiny of the Royal rota of press. They clearly could have had a different role had the British Press not had such a hand in this all.
It is clear their nonsense still fills the news print as they still claim to speak for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan although they have been clear they never ever brief them.
They seem to be working and keeping busy - noticeably costing them UK nothing but still adding value to projects where allowed.
I wonder if Prince Andrew might have ended up rather better had he been allowed to remain in the military.
This visit has proven that the palace leaks did not come from the Queen’s staff as smeared previously. The press like ravenous dogs are now full of talk about snubs and olive branches when in fact they have literally no idea. Desperate for photographs of their children.
It’s grotesque.
I hope it becomes better as Charles becomes Regent.

mariepopp · 15/04/2022 02:40

@MVision

Yes she is - the newspapers have had the nod - it's why meghan and harry have come over

I work in events and all the big UK sporting events and festivals (this year) have taken out contingency insurance should HRH pass away during the event. Similar to the pandemic insurance Wimbledon had cover for in 2020.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 15/04/2022 02:47

She's 95! At 95, things can change on a daily basis. One day they are 100% all there and amazing and the next day, they've fallen asleep on the loo and had a full on stroke. Harry And Megan are privately (as they've said all along) calling in before they represent Harry's legacy. I LOVE the Invictus Games. Harry should be very proud of what he created.

chipsnmayo · 15/04/2022 02:58

@lameasahorse

I agree with earlier posters that the Queen does not appear very interested in young children.
I dont think she was a very good mother tbh, her three sons were right arrogant prats, you cannot dignify the actions of Charles and Andrew. Edward made his fair share of mistakes but at least he is fairly respectable these days, its probably Sophie's influence though. Anne has always been a decent woman though (she's very much Philip's child!).
1forAll74 · 15/04/2022 03:51

I know quite a few very elderly ladies, who have the same kind of stature that the Queen now has, and its mainly caused by osteoporosis, caused by weakening or damaged bones around the spinal area, and usually causes a stooped appearance, and making people look smaller in height. and so causes pain, and walking problems...

The Queen has had a few short hospital visits in the past,, as people have to have xrays now and again, to see if there is more damage to some bones, which can break if things get worse. They may need pain relief if things get worse, and things are not manageable.

She probably has a mobility scooter to whizz round the big rooms in the castle, but not on any outside events.

ForcedOut123 · 15/04/2022 03:52

Yes. Harry and Meghan need to get in and take their grandchildren to see her and sort it out. I can’t believe they haven’t. Harry will have major regrets. He is still young to be honest.

JangolinaPitt · 15/04/2022 04:12

@ITSupport

Hope not! I always said I wanted to go away for a fortnight when she dies as I can’t stand the media coverage and hype that will follow

Unfortunately I’m too busy at work until mid July when I’m away for 3 weeks

16th July would be a good date!

Roselilly36 · 15/04/2022 04:30

Yes, I think the Queen is poorly, she is so, so thin. And looks very frail. Perhaps she isn’t up to seeing very young children at the moment, which is understandable. I hope not, but I do wonder if it will be Harry’s final visit to see his Grandmother. Given her age, it’s to be expected sadly.
