Why do people keep bringing up sad deaths and funerals

I can't believe you even had to ask that Janiie
That's poor even for you.
Ask someone who had to bury their sister, brother, mother, father... that. They'll tell you.
9 minutes with cake would have meant the world to them.

It's inhumane that it keeps being brought down to this and these comments are posted.

Inhumane.

So much so that they cannot be the genuine thoughts of a fully functioning human and therefore I can only conclude they are that of someone who craves attention and enjoys the reaction of posting such inhumane comments on these threads.

Roussette · 19/04/2022 19:08

I do wonder if it's a goady thing actually because it's totally beyond me.

Trivialising the bereaved families who were unable to grieve together for even 5 minutes alongside subtle and insidious criticism of NHS workers.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 19:18

I think the problem lies in the fact we do all keep responding as it's hard not to.

Maybe if no one even acknowledges such inhumanity it'll stop?!

Changechangychange · 19/04/2022 19:20

@itsgettingweird there was a leak from number 10 published in I think the Guardian last week saying he was expected to receive 6 fines. And that the birthday cake was the most minor.

It would be hilarious if certain posts are actually Labour plants intended to highlight the sheer drivel & ineptitude of the Cons response. Almost genius.

@Fulmine

Rather someone with much more important things to be dealing with yet patiently and calmly answering repetitive questions. Don't they listen to the previous answers?

More important than lying to Parliament? More important than serious constitutional offences? More important than breaking laws his government promulgated and which he kept exhorting the rest of us to comply with in order to save lives? Really?

Yes, more important. He probably had a cake to eat and another bottle of wine to sample.
jgw1 · 19/04/2022 19:45

The ‘we had a gathering before an intense covid meeting’ was a new one. Just so we remember that poor old Boris has a very difficult job. He mustn’t have realised that prime minister was a hard job when he ran for office. hmm

I am delighted to learn that the Number 10 lie spin machine has finally worked out that the best possible line of defence to all this is the one I have been advocating for some time.

It is essential for Boris to have cake, wine and cheese otherwise he is not prepared to do any work. Makes the whole thing perfectly legal and everyone can go off and enjoy a pint down the pub with Keir.

It is the most rational and least disturbing explanation for the posts. Also it think for Michael Fabricats utterings.
itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 19:51

I agree jw. I find it quite disturbing that someone can post such inhumane comments and genuinely mean and worse still - believe them. Being a spin intended to make people think that way is more reassuring than someone actually thinking that way.

Remember when large percentages fell for the ‘jolly Buffon Boris’ persona? (I’ll hold my hands up and admit there was a period of time up to the brexit campaign I was on board with that line of thinking).

Or when people feel the need to ‘other’ people who commit heinous acts because they can’t let themselves accept that they’re just normal people like everyone else?

No, sometimes people are just what they say they are and we should accept that. I think it’s a sign of a good person to look for reasons to explain/make actions and words palatable but truth is some people are just what they are.

Been out most of the day bit as I understand it that despite assuring everyone that al rules/laws were followed at all times, Johnson actually never understood those rules/laws so didn't know he broke them

And he is going to repeat this lie excuse with every fine he is going to receive?

Guess he hasn't understood the Ministerial code either.

And still they defend him

You are correct.

And it is quite unreasonable to expect that the Prime Minister should know what the laws his government have introduced are as he is far too busy enriching his mates, boozing and eating cake.

Peregrina · 19/04/2022 21:42

Perhaps JaniieJones could tell us which laws she would expect Johnson to obey? Parking and Covid fines are apparently OK. Theft, embezzlement, forgery, perjury, causing bodily harm as just a few examples - is he above the law on those too?

Boris is far too busy with all his important work eating cake and wine tasting to need to bother with laws.

From listening to J O’Brien looking at Kate Burley’s interview with MP Paul Scully this morning.

‘The prime minister accepts that the police have found him to have broken the law’

He refused to answer whether Boris himself accepts that he broke the law (and should therefore resign). He doesn’t accept he broke the law but accepts the police do therefore he’s got no obligation to resign.

It’s all very carefully worded spin.

But surely if he didn’t accept he’d broken the law, he’d have appealed the fine?

Cornettoninja · 20/04/2022 12:09

@Blossomtoes you’d think wouldn’t you? Unless he suspects he wouldn’t win because he knows he did.

He’s being very careful with his wording about very ‘humbly’ accepting the MET’s decision whilst glossing over taking any personal responsibility.

Moving testimony on Sky just now, a ED Doctor talking about her experiences in a Hospital, no PPE, NHS workers dying because of this, her own father contracted CV around the time PM opening his Secret Santa and then her dads subsequent death.

Its quite incredible that he is still in no10 and beyond comprehension anyone could defend his behavior.

Isn’t it just? It feels like society is fundamentally broken on some level that anyone accepts such a low standard from the people in the highest offices.

The minimising of public outcry is all I need to tell me what this government thinks of the people it represents it’s just baffling how some don’t think it applies to them. Spoiler - if you’re not part of the club they also think you’re a scruffy chump who should be grateful you’re under their rule.

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2022 14:22

The vote tomorrow will be very interesting. It won't pass of course. But I understand from The Times that MPs that have asked to be slipped (absent) have been instructed to turn up by Con whips. Which is handy because their vote or abstention then becomes something to whip them with at the next election (and munition for locals I suppose).

I don't know why they are resisting an investigation so much - all the committee seems to be able to do is refer for censure in Parliament. Plus they have a majority on the committee.
Sign of how desperate they are to keep those photographs with the police?
