What was Starmer going on about?! BJ wasn't visiting dying relatives, he wasn't attending massive funerals when everyone else only had 10 mourners. Comparing any of this to that is ridiculous and irrelevant

Don’t you understand words? Here’s one for you - juxtaposition. Look it up if you’re struggling.

Consider someone unable to attend a funeral and then someone celebrating their birthday.

SueSaid · 19/04/2022 18:15

'You know perfectly well that it is highly relevant'

It would be relevant if BJ had visited dying family when no one else could. Or attended a funeral when no one else could.

He was (so far) at work with colleagues.

I'll ask again, do you remember the workplace tiktok dancing clips? Do you think the staff should all be sent fpns or do you accept some social interaction occurred at work? If someone could answer rather than just calling me names that'd be lovely.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2022 18:16

Patel had just been put through the wringer by Yvette Cooper, she was probably still in shock.

Harpur was excellent, let’s hope he’s emboldened his colleagues.

How do we know they haven't been sent FPNs?

As I recall, social interaction at work was severely limited.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2022 18:22

I don't get my news from TikTok so I have no idea.

Did the nurses write and approve the legislation? Vote on it? Did they go on the tv to threaten us with it? Did they lie to Parliament? Cover it up?

Doesn't sound all that relevant to me.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2022 18:23

All Johnson has done is repeat the same riseable guff like a parrot.

Peregrina · 19/04/2022 18:24

His next divorce should be easy. The Catholic Church will grant Carrie an annulment on the grounds that Boris Johnson never intended to take his marriage vows seriously.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 18:24

@JaniieJones

'I think you are watching a different debate to me Janiiejones. He's coming across as cocky, uncaring and incompetent.'

Cocky? I don't see that at all.

Rather someone with much more important things to be dealing with yet patiently and calmly answering repetitive questions. Don't they listen to the previous answers?

'Kier brilliantly pointed out that people would have been happy for just 9 minutes with loved ones. 9 minutes of a funeral and maybe 30 people.'

Brilliantly? Completely different scenarios. Why do people keep bringing up sad deaths and funerals.

Workplace tiktoks! doesn't anyone remember them?! People worked together in groups. Some social interaction occurred. This isn't about the sad deaths.

It's quite worrying you cannot see that mixing his interior designer spouse and people who don't work together for cake is wrong (was against the law) and yet people who watched their loved on on iPads, dying, alone and then had to grieve - alone - because they couldn't mix isn't relevant.

I actually dont believe anyone can be as inhumane as you are being here and therefore I have to believe for my own sanity you're just enjoying coming here and spouting this crap to be centre of attention on the thread. If I don't feel sorry for you your inhumane comments would raise my blood pressure dangerously.

Or that he didn't understand what he was promising.
itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 18:26

He wasn't and you he wasn't. His spouse was there. She doesn't work for government now live in that meeting room. His interior designer was there. She doesn't live anywhere in that building.

Did anyone in the tiktok clips have their husband/wife in as well, did they have their interior designer in the clip? No they didn't because people like Carrie Johnson being at his event with his work colleagues meant it wasn't just him and work colleagues.

Yes, - criticism started around April 2020 (www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8245313/amp/Fury-endless-showreel-NHS-staff-dancing-fooling-coronavirus-crisis.html?ico=amp_mostReadNews ) feel free to note the majority are in PPE and distancing.

FPN’s were introduced in July 2020 ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Health_Protection_(Coronavirus,Restrictions)(No.2)(England)_Regulations_2020 ).

If you’re that bothered about it do you want to start your own thread about it instead of detailing this one with whataboutary? Thanks ever so..

ilovesooty · 19/04/2022 18:28

Starmer summed it up

"It's what he does. It's who he is."

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 18:30

Starmer was the best I've seen him today. I've always felt he's disappointed up til now. He's a top lawyer so he knows how to do his stuff.

I even think he sounded extremely emotional. Whether genuine upset at what people have been through or frustration at having to be the opposition to this complete buffoon.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2022 18:30

The ability to argue with facts here and with the LBC woman is very worrying. It’s as if some people live in a parallel universe.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2022 18:32

I thought he was really forceful from the outset - "What a joke" - then the scathing contempt at the "mealy mouthed apology". Johnson just sat like a child on the naughty step.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2022 18:33

And I thought Blackford was calm and measured, and therefore effective.

littledrummergirl · 19/04/2022 18:33

Paraphrasing.

Other people resigned for breaking covid restrictions, why shouldn't you?

Answer the goddamn question! He is supposed to be answerable to the house, stop talking shit with non answers and answer the questions.

NETSRIK · 19/04/2022 18:34

I've seen toddlers apologise with more humility than Johnson. Actually, that's unfair to toddlers so ignore that.

ancientgran · 19/04/2022 18:35

@Fulmine

I thought the comment about being Ukraine's biggest Ally and Putins enemy number one was genius

Something tells me the prospect of Johnson as enemy no. 1 isn't making Putin quake in his boots.

With a bit of luck he'll laugh so much he'll fall over, bang his head and come round with a personality change.
ilovesooty · 19/04/2022 18:35

He certainly wouldn't answer the question about whether he expected any more fines.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2022 18:38

@ilovesooty

He certainly wouldn't answer the question about whether he expected any more fines.
That’s because he knows they’re coming but, because he can’t count very well, he doesn’t know how many gatherings he went to.
Notonthestairs · 19/04/2022 18:47

Presumably this debate will be held each and every time Johnson receives a FPN.

And as per my quote from Marina Hyde they won't be able to keep arguing "this was the least criminal thing he did".

What a shambles.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2022 18:50

Presumably this debate will be held each and every time Johnson receives a FPN

We’ve been promised that the ABBA party will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Presumably because that’s indefensible.

Do you think Johnson knows this is coming? He surely must realise that more fines are to follow and he's already set the narrative that he accepts the police rulings.

Something tells me that somehow they'll have arranged for this to be the one and only fine. The most minor of all the breaches. Or maybe that's just my paranoia because I do t trust them at all.
