@JaniieJones

'I just wondered if you had a view on what they might have meant by an "actual crime".

Oh I don't know, stuff like assaults, sexual abuse, stabbings, gang crime. Taking face covers off or wishing people happy birthday just aren't up there imo. I should apply to be Commissioner really.

You might find it more effective to protest about the government making things that are not actual crimes crimes.

But you can't do that, because the government have banned protests as well.

Sadly though I do think Boris will use NS as his defence now

How many times can you be caught off guard ?

The bigger thing is - he said that all guidance was followed in Downing Street.

He did not say "As far as I am aware". He clearly stated that all guidance was followed.

I would hope that he would have checked with aides - and they would have looked back at the events of 2020 and 2021 and maybe should have realised that there were events that did not follow guidance.

He misled Parliament.

I am not so sure he did mislead parliament. Clearly anyone who had read the papers knew that parties that broke the law had taken place, so Boris saying that all guidance was followed was not misleading as no one believed him anyway. (well except @Clavinova and @JaniieJones of course).

This is what probably happened after PMQs
This is what probably happened after PMQs
See they are all the same. The politician in that clip lied as well.
DuncinToffee · 18/04/2022 20:22

The nonsense thing is that MPs can't even call Johnson a liar in Parliament, they would het dismissed by the Speaker.

I do hope it doesn't stop them doing so.

Notonthestairs · 18/04/2022 20:42

I don't think the public are quite as relaxed about Johnson's behaviour as the party (sorry, illegal gathering) would like us to believe.

"NEW @JLPartnersPolls in today’s @thetimes

We asked a nationally representative sample of the British public what they think about Boris Johnson.

Of all 2,000 responses, 72% were negative, with 16% positive. The words most commonly used are in the image below. (1/13)

White collar crime is the most under investigated and under punished set of crimes as it goes because of ,you know, power and the elite. The rich and powerful tend to get away with stuff.

That interesting although now you e typed it it doesn't surprise me
Blossomtoes · 18/04/2022 21:55

The Times has a poll running asking if Johnson should resign. It’s currently showing 85% yes.

Yes, but are they actual crimes? They weren't on @JaniieJones helpful list.

If it were only one incident, one short happy birthday and cake.. then we wouldn't be here. But its not, its multiple law breaking, that either he took part in, organised, knew about, condoned.

On your key point, the govt doesn't even take seriously, any of the crimes you list either, its all a jolly jape for our Boris "Penny wise" Clown.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 19/04/2022 08:10

It's not even the multiple law breakings. It's the lying. And the smirking while doing it.

Roussette · 19/04/2022 08:20

I don't get the defence, I really don't.

He lied. Ignorance of the law has never ever been a defence. And this is the laws he set. The public knew the rules, yet he didn't?? During lockdowns, I googled dot gov to see what I could or couldn't do. Yet he's so stupid he had no idea?
What a weak defence from those defending him.

He lied because he thought it would just die down. He lies continually so he knew. Anything he says, I don't believe, he makes up employment numbers, he lied to the Queen, he lies that poverty is down, he lied about police numbers, 48 new hospitals a lie... I could go on.

So basically anything he says is most likely a lie, and he knows it. So this...
All guidance was followed completely in No.10 is a lie. Not one that he didn't realise, but one that he thought would blow over. He's been caught out.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2022 08:27

Yes, but are they actual crimes?

Well, it seems perhaps not.

Yes he has but he'll still be there come the next GE and probably beyond... the Brits will keep voting against their best interests.

We now have the defence that breaking CV law, was akin to getting a parking ticket.

jgw1 · 19/04/2022 08:35

@Piggywaspushed

Yes, but are they actual crimes?

Well, it seems perhaps not.

I think the important thing to remember is that crimes are committed by other people who are not like us, those who are here to serve us and should doff their cap to their superiors. So if we or our mates do something, commit fraud, break covid regulations and so on it is not really a crime, we were just very busy and acting in the best interests of our wallets.

Yours

Boris x

Does getting a parking ticket have the very real potential to make someone very, very ill?
Alexandra2001 · 19/04/2022 09:04

@jgw1

150,000 plus people who died (and are still dying) of Covid would disagree with you.

DuncinToffee · 19/04/2022 09:18

Brandon Lewis said that Tony Blair got a parking ticket once

SueSaid · 19/04/2022 09:58

'I don't get the defence, I really don't.'

Once again if there's more, if he's had a party at the flat, then I absolutely agree that is wrong.

However at the moment we have fpns for very tenuous reasons. Durham police think beers and a buffet at work were allowed, the Met don't.

Sunak got a fpn for walking into the cabinet office! It makes a mockery of the whole system tbh and that is why people struggle to take the fines seriously.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2022 10:10

Rewriting history again Janii.

Sunak stopped and had drinks at the birthday celebration- acknowledged at the time.

Suspect Durham police looked a bit more closely at the Labour constituency office issue then you have.

You are just scrabbling around for reasons to cling on to a liar.

Cornettoninja · 19/04/2022 10:26

@JaniieJones do you not get tired of repeating yourself? Genuine question.

Are you posting to actually have a conversation? To change peoples minds? Play devils advocate? At what point, no matter how right you feel you are, do you accept that you’ve said all you have to say on the matter or is there some value in repeating the same thing over and over again that I’m completely missing?

Your points have been debated (at length across numerous threads) yet you persist in making the same ones again and again. Are you waiting to ‘win’ by just tiring people out?

I just don’t see what you’re getting out of your contributions at this point? I think you’re enjoying the attention tbh.

DuncinToffee · 19/04/2022 10:32

Keir's beer is so stale by now
