What can't you get in the shops?

I'm Yorkshire and DD Northampton, chatting with her yesterday and she hasn't been able to get Romaine lettuce for a couple of weeks now...my local corner Tesco and Sainsbury's have no white fusilli pasta and haven't done for the last week, the type of dog food my fussy one likes was not available for nearly a month. So I started to think and look. Yesterday between 4 shops there was one lettuce ...just one iceberg...I've photographed it to marvel at its rarity.

I also could not buy regular tomatoes, just on the vine, in any of the shops, or a single bottle of Guinness lots of multipacks but I only needed one.

What can't you get near you??

@TomRipley

Lemon curd and decent tomatoes.

Lemon curd is quite essential to me and I use about 4-6 jars a week, usually the own brand Tesco or sainsburys but they never have it.
The bon mamam is sometimes there but £2.60 a jar!

I need to know how you use so much lemon curd?!

Lidl 85% cocoa chocolate at my local. Went past another and panic bought a few bars as they had plenty.

Local Waitrose has own brand Lemon Curd

Also can find dusty jars in independent grocers. Not sure if Tiptree make it?

Can't you get catering buckets of the stuff as it costs £2.50 a jar. Lovely on crumpets and hot cross buns! Mmmm lush!

SE London here and haven't noticed any gaps in the shelves at all. The salad sections of my local Co-Op, Lidl and Sainsbury's are all as stocked as normal. Sainsbury's does have a sign as we come in saying that due to the war in Ukraine sunflower oil availability is a problem and they will be using rapeseed/vegetable oil on the shelves/in produce.

Flipping diesel! But also petrol if you're that way inclined.

It's been a nightmare for about 2 weeks round here. None in the supermarkets, none even in the very expensive local garage. Not even the £2/ltr super diesel stuff. Within 24 hours of a delivery the garages are out of stock again.

Nothing else seems to be a problem, but then I've not been to town much due to the lack of fuel Hmm.

Tinned crabmeat, but I haven't been able to get that for ages anyway
Anchovies, but that might just be our local Tesco

PaulaTrilloe · 18/04/2022 06:15

There were 4 bottles of veg oil in Tescos it cost £1,49 instead of 90p for a litre

Although I do love to eat lemon curd I wouldn't get through that much!

I'm a cake supplier and use lemon curd in a few of my recipes. I've thought about making my own but as it's made with eggs I'm a bit worried about the 'high risk' element that comes with it so prefer shop bought.

@TomRipley is a cake maker/ supplier 🤣

Went to Waitrose yesterday and checked out the preserves section. They had 2 types of Lemon Curd but I was amazed to see Waitrose Passion fruit Curd (don't think it's part of their Waitrose Essentials range tho!) Grin
