What can't you get in the shops?

I'm Yorkshire and DD Northampton, chatting with her yesterday and she hasn't been able to get Romaine lettuce for a couple of weeks now...my local corner Tesco and Sainsbury's have no white fusilli pasta and haven't done for the last week, the type of dog food my fussy one likes was not available for nearly a month. So I started to think and look. Yesterday between 4 shops there was one lettuce ...just one iceberg...I've photographed it to marvel at its rarity.

I also could not buy regular tomatoes, just on the vine, in any of the shops, or a single bottle of Guinness lots of multipacks but I only needed one.

What can't you get near you??

@CheekySwifter

I've been trying to find corn on the cob for 2 weeks in Aldi, Tesco and sainsburys.
That's going to have to be imported from many thousands of miles away - it isn't in season at all in the northern hemisphere. They are probably having issues booking container space on ships. The price of containers has rocketed.

If I were you, I'd buy in-season fruit and veg. Or tinned. Much better for the planet.

Haven’t noticed any shortages here, except that dh has found M&S out of his favourite hummus more than once lately.

Tomatoes no problem in local Asda. TBH I hardly ever buy lettuce any more - I keep a white cabbage in the fridge and shred it for salads as well as coleslaw. Goes in a stir fry, too, and unlike lettuce, keeps for ages.

@TomRipley

Lemon curd and decent tomatoes.

Lemon curd is quite essential to me and I use about 4-6 jars a week, usually the own brand Tesco or sainsburys but they never have it.
The bon mamam is sometimes there but £2.60 a jar!

Pray tell me, what do you do with all that lemon curd?

Worcestershire Sauce has gone AWOL in Worcestershire Sad

AnotherOne4 · 10/04/2022 16:12

Shortage of tomatoes down south too. Not been able to get any for two weeks now. Tesco own brand Baked Beans and Quorn veggie mince are hard to get hold off to.

Lidl: canned dog food, tins of dog biscuits. Sounds trivial, but they were the sorts foster dog was used to so I was loathe to go elsewhere. Got canned food & biscuits fine in pet shop & Sainsbury's 200m away, at least.

Sainsbury's is often out of stock on many things... has been out of fuel a lot lately. Massive Qs and even a police presence when they get fuel in after a spate with none. Simmering fury on local Facebook pages about the fuel shortages.

Rum

Maggiesgirl · 10/04/2022 16:44

Butter, none in either Mortisons nor Lidl. Tomatoes, Lettuce and a lot of my normal veg. I'm in Wilts.

RightOnTheEdge · 10/04/2022 16:46

I couldn't get an iceberg lettuce anywhere, not a whole one or bagged.
The place I work didn't have any tomatoes on the delivery this week.

namechangeanonymous · 10/04/2022 17:34

Couldn't get fresh brocoli today 😞

ifonly4 · 10/04/2022 18:23

Very lucky to have choice of Lidl and Tescos within walking distance.

Tescos only oil that's available is Olive. Hit and miss on tomatoes, peppers, eggs, tissues, hit and miss with my boys choice of cat food. None of their own chopped tinned tomatoes for a couple of weeks.

Lidl - no oil. Hit and miss with flour, eggs, tomatoes and peppers.

Most important thing we haven't starved, nor have the cats. Feel sorry for businesses that are finding it hard to get the ingredients/products they need.

Tangerinedreamisatheme · 10/04/2022 18:53

Broccoli and what there is yellowing and manky (morrisons/sainsbos) cabbage small because dried up leaves pulled off, short use by for chicken etc

@TabbyMcTatBuskersCat

Recycled wood cat litter. Lemon curd. I'm East Yorkshire. Tbh it's Tesco's that seems to have the most gaps on its shelves, especially fruit/veg.
Wood pellets are likely to be an ongoing problem I think with them also being used for fuel (somewhere along the line,). You can use them for horse bedding and the price is astronomical now whereas they used to be quite a good way of doing it.
Ohmnomnom · 10/04/2022 20:53

I ordered 8 Easter eggs for my 2 dc from Asda yesterday (I know, 4 eggs each is atrocious). None were in stock, so they sent my 2 Ferrero Rocher squirrels as a sub for each egg. An army of 16 Ferrero Rocher squirrels turned up at my house yesterday!

PestorPeston · 10/04/2022 21:05

All the tomatoes are in my Lidl store.
No vegetable or sunflower oil, about 6 packets of crisps in the whole shop. No humous, have they moved it, am I really unobservant, there didn't even seem to be a gap for it to go in. Pasta stocks low. There were other bare shelves, of things I don't buy.

The poster who mentioned bulk lemon curd may have a child with special needs which include a very limited diet?
