Someone was in our house last night.

Am so worried and confused about what happened.
1am- DH and I go upto bed, dd1 has popped out to pick up her boyfriend from the pub and bring him back here and dd2 has just arrived home from work. Younger dc have been asleep for hours.
5am- I hear a phone vibrating in the house and what sounds like an alarm, dh puts his ears to the older dc's doors but thinks it's coming from downstairs. Goes down past the (closed?) front door and locates the phone down the back of the couch. Knocks on oldest dd's door and throws the phone to her sleeping boyfriend saying he'd left it downstairs.
8am dd2 goes downstairs for a drink and the front door is wide open. I hear her coming up to check on the little two who are still asleep in bed.
At this point I start getting concerned so go into dd1s room and her boyfriend says the phone isn't his! He thought dh had got confused about who he was giving it to at 5am so just put it under the bed and went back to sleep.
Dh insists the door was closed when he walked past it at 5am (Yale lock no handle so when it's not clicked closed it swings wide open so I believe it was closed)
Back door is locked with the key in the door and the conservatory has an added locking system over the original lock that hasn't been moved.
We live in a nice area, we are on the edge of town with fields all around so you wouldn't walk past our house going anywhere else iyswim, you'd have to be deliberately coming this way.
We rent our house (moved in 18 months ago) so we don't know who all had keys before us which stupidly never crossed my mind until this morning 😕
Nothing seems to have been touched, my bag is over the end of the stairs, the cars and keys are all there and no laptops etc are missing.
I've no idea why anyone would have come in, lost their phone on the couch then left again without us hearing anything.
I'm worried that the person must have still been in the house when dh went downstairs then left the door open when he went out.
The only other thing to add is one night a few weeks ago dd2 came in at 1am then I went out at 5am and the door was wide open. I told her to be more careful when she came in and she insisted that she had closed the door properly but now I'm wondering if someone has done this before.
We've phoned the police who are coming out at some point to talk to us and pick up the phone (phones locked with a gaming picture on the Lock Screen) and will be going to B&Q to get new locks but I feel so on edge wondering what's been going on 😔

@Soresoresore Well I hope so. She has a lot of work to do! Grin

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 15/04/2022 13:58

@debwong

Plot twist: the OP is running a county lines drug gang from her living room and this thread is an elaborate ruse to put her DH (and those pesky interfering neighbours) off the scent.
Nailed it! Shall we report her to get it all logged? Grin
TigerLilyTail · 15/04/2022 14:10

I think the OP is actually a high class escort but she bumped her head and has forgotten this whole part of her life. The phone was hers all along.

Michellelovesizzy · 15/04/2022 15:36

I think her DH thought it was the bf phone and the alarm seems to have woken the whole house. Such a strange tall pleases keep us updated

What escorts need to be at work for 5am! No, it is definitely the county lines gang thing.

@worried91

No update at the moment, apart from someone a few miles away from us had caught someone on their ring door bell trying doors in the early hours of the same day this happened but I'm sure it's just coincidence as it's quite a bit off and doesn't explain how they would have got into our house if it was the same person.

I'm still trying to process all the other information I discovered about myself on this thread- such as I'm the neighbour from hell as one daughter finishes work late and the other picked up her boyfriend late the same night. I'd misspelt "briefly spoke" when I should have put "yelled full blown conversation" and that my husband is an abusive prick for returning a phone to the owner at 5am rather than letting the alarm wake up our little ones 🤷‍♀️
That's before I even get started on how he's obviously cheating on my with his second phone and I've done such a poor job raising my oldest dd that she's ended up with a drug dealer who does all his business from my house!

It's a lot to take in 🙄

Ah...The wonderful world of Mumsnet!
TheNeverEndingOver · 17/04/2022 08:48

That update was hilarious
Thank you OP

ThePenguinIsDrunk · 17/04/2022 11:28

Do you have a sleep walker in the house? Would be my first thought. Doesn't explain the phone though.

Cismyfatarse · 17/04/2022 11:37

This happened to a friend (but she caught him). It was the previous owner's son who had got drunk and confused and wandered in from the pub (thinking it was still his parents' house) and sat down and switched the TV on. It was an honest (but terrifying) mistake, particularly as she lived alone and he is a big bloke.

She changed the locks and he was absolutely mortified and kept apologising to the point that became a bit OTT and she had to tell him, firmly, to stop.

I hope you get it sorted.

I thought this because someone I worked with would wake to all her bedroom windows open. Another person said it could be a sign of carbon monoxide poisoning.

They were right. That is why I said op needed to get her boiler checked.

Probably not in this case but regarding the phone I do think though there are portals especially what happened to my dh’s phone.
Also I think either someone has been in my van or a portal has just sent money, £2.60 to be exact from another dimension.
I never carry cash so to see money on the floor of my locked van which isn’t used by anyone other than me and is cleared out each evening is very surprising.
I have no idea where it has come from so the portal idea is the only one to make sense.

worried91 · 17/04/2022 16:58

The portal idea is really interesting. I'm usually not very "woo" at all but you've reminded me off something that happened on holiday one year.
Dh and I were sat at a cafe on the prom when a lady wearing a yellow dress (she stood out because of it) walked past holding her child's hand. The child dropped a purse/toy and they stopped in front of us to pick it up at the same time the waiter arrived with our drinks.
Moments later the same lady walked past with her child and they dropped the same thing again, stopped to pick it up then carried on at the same time a waiter appeared with our drinks looked confused when we had them apologised then walked off.
Dh and I looked at each other open mouthed.
I suppose the lady could have run round the back of the bar (was a drop beyond the prom) but it was all so weird.

Gosh this gave me goosebumps!
StScholastica · 18/04/2022 00:22

Ooooh creepy.

helibirdcomp · 18/04/2022 16:14

A bit of 'bolting the stable door' but always take your handbag up to your bedroom - it save so much hassle cancelling credit cards. I take my phone and laptop as well. I was burgled many years ago and found those caused the most pain - I didn't care about the whisky bottles or the hifi the insurance paid for that.
Hope it is just the 'lost drunk' scenario but definitely check neighbours ring video.

Imissmoominmama · 18/04/2022 21:35

Your house is clearly a real den of iniquity OP Grin.

Kennykenkencat · 19/04/2022 03:54

worried91 My logic for there being portals is a Sherlock Holmes quote. “ When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth”
After my Dh ‘s phone incident and the £2.60 in my van there have been other things that are strange
One particular instance I can’t post the specific details as it would be too outing but it involves seeing something when I was driving at a particular time that when I did a u turn to check I had actually seen something there was nothing there so thought it was late and my mind was playing tricks on me so did another u turn and carried on to the shop I was going to that closed at 11 pm Sso incident I had “seen” was definitely before 11pm

When I got home that night I told family what I had “witnessed”

The following morning it was found that there had been an incident, that was exactly what I had told family I had “seen” but 2 hours after I had passed by.
It still creeps me out now when I think about it. I just wish there was a logical explanation

other than a time slip or portal as it seems quite mad but they are the only things I can come up with.

BSintolerant · 19/04/2022 23:52

Bloody hell! @Kennykenkencat - there’s a similar story to yours on the Uncanny Podcast (case 12) involving a woman driving a van who got more than she bargained for.

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/m0010x7c

Portals and time slips are fascinating and far more plausible than the OP living in a disorderly house. Grin

Could you also pick up a ring doorbell? So if anyone does try to get in you’ll have footage?

You can get fake ring doorbells off eBay for £30 if you don’t want to spend much.

NEScribe · 20/04/2022 12:02

Have I missed an update? This was days ago - police still not been/phone not rung again/haven't found another phone that will accept the sim card?
How am I supposed to work when my mind just keeps going back to possible answers for this? :)

WhatICallMyUsername · 22/04/2022 09:33

@NEScribe police have been and collected the phone the same day!

MamaFoxToBe · 30/04/2022 12:07
