So, Boris is in Ukraine. Is it too much to hope...

...he never comes back?

Why? What did you think I was going to say?

However I don't think they'd have wanted to be seen to deliberately target Johnson because the international ramifications would have been horrible.

In which case my original suggestion - that he use this fact to save at least a few people fleeing might be the most useful and noble thing he's ever done in his life.

The great thing about being as stupid as I am, is things very quickly become either/or.

Justkeeppedaling · 10/04/2022 11:00

@EmeraldShamrock1

Fair play to him, his visit speaks volumes.

He has his blunders but he has balls too.

I'd be proud of him for this. not excusing his past mistakes

Ditto. Bloody well done Mr Johnson.

I dislike the way that world politics is becoming about big political figures ( Trump, et al) and what they choose to do, on the basis of their own imaginative instincts, and personal interpretations. Even Macron is posturing and posing in he-man clothes. It is not about collegiate governing, anymore. It's like the little people are the little people and the leaders are these noble figures making strategic moves, and cheered or booed by the plebs.

The little people don't visit their relatives in care homes: the Prime Minister swigs the wine every Friday with a crowd of cronies.

Boris says people will have to choose to eat cheaper food, but it's cool for Rishi to have permanent US citizenship as he works in Number Ten, and for his family members to avoid paying millions in tax.

I don't like the way things are going and Starter doesn't make an impression. I think Emily Thornberry would be better: strong and opinionated, when someone needs to challenge misuse of privilege.

Boris visits Kyiv without the laurel wreath, but with the same emperor- like bearing. Zelensky is a figurehead who makes great expansive speeches, but he does feel emotion for the people and shares their plight - although his financial status is fishy. Boris is strutting meaninglessly, making the fighting in Ukraine look more like an international war, and declining to be careful, and looking like we're staying out of the conflict - to avoid an escalation of tensions.

Boris has messed up Brexit and landed us with monstrous inflation; he doesn't possess the good judgement to be the one deciding whether it's good or not to posture in the middle of misery. Someone needs to stop him and put him in his place.

brexit was always a dare, a taunt

oakleaffy · 10/04/2022 11:29

@MrsLargeEmbodied

brexit was always a dare, a taunt
Brexshit was always going to be a disaster.

It is much, much worse than I feared it would be.

It seemed mainly to be “ Won” because of fear of “ Immigrants ”, and the lies about saving money to prop up the NHS, which is now on it’s knees.

Lubeyboobyalt · 10/04/2022 11:35

I'm not his biggest fan but it makes a change from him hiding in a fridge and dodging this that and the other. I'm glad he went and showed support in person, massive up yours to Putin

I dislike the way that world politics is becoming about big political figures ( Trump, et al) and what they choose to do, on the basis of their own - Agree!

Would people really want Zelensky as a prime minister?

Great actor and showman, won the election on a landslide, mainly off the back of his actor, comedy show in what he would do if he become president, popularity dropped by a huge landslide when it turned out he couldn’t live up to his TV show.

Very dodgy financial background and backers, makes Boris and his contracts to mates look mild and that is saying something, look at the banking system in Ukraine.

However he seems to have balls to fight and genuine passion for his country, his real test will be how he can turn the country around post war, support the people of Ukraine without falling/leaning towards corruption he says he will fight against, which wasn’t proving to be the case pre-war.

Tsuni · 10/04/2022 11:52

@sashh

I wish we could! His people will follow him into a war. I wouldn't follow Boris through a door.

If you did you'd probably end up in a fridge

Fat shaming, really? Hmm

(And somebody already made your oh so witty original joke up thread btw.)

PaddleBoardingMomma · 10/04/2022 11:56

Not sure how people can act horrified and disgusted that people are being bombed in Ukraine, do all their virtue signalling and share their little sad statuses on Facebook and then actively laugh/joke/hope that Boris gets a bomb dropped on him... do you not see the hypocrisy? Pretty sure it's only psychopaths who day dream of people getting murdered...

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/04/2022 12:11

@Tsuni pretty sure the fridge is not fat shaming
it is related to boris actually in a fridge

listsandbudgets · 10/04/2022 12:17

@BiggerBoat1

They can keep him. Maybe he'd fancy driving a tank around for a bit.
No. Dont suggest that can you imagine the photo opportunities?
RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 10/04/2022 12:17

Fat shaming, really? hmm

Its not fat shaming at all…as mrslargeembodied states

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/04/2022 12:19
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/04/2022 12:21

The fact that Tsuni thinks that's fat shaming rather than a reference to the time Johnson actually hid in a fridge is actually showing Tsuni up as fat shaming.

SayYouDontMind · 10/04/2022 13:17

I’ve not got any time for Boris. But I don’t wish him dead.

I can also step outside my tiny world and see how it must feel for a leader of country to shake the hand of another leader who has travelled to meet them especially after the constrictions of a pandemic and a bloody war.

I’m no fan of war either. But BJ has not come empty-handed and again I am sure it is appreciated by a country that is absolutely stymied by the complex balancing act of international relations and by its geography.

I also thought it was fantastic to see Ursula von der Leyden visiting Ukraine and Zelensky - for the same reasons as above. Some people on here seem to think that wasn’t given any publicity. I saw it on the news and I’m sure it was on the news all over Europe too.

Sometimes people you dislike and intensely disagree with on most things do things that are right and worthy of commendation. I think learning and coming to terms with this is a crucial lesson in life. Black and white thinking gets us nowhere.

whenwillthemadnessend · 10/04/2022 13:25

What ever your political opinion. Wishing the pM dead is pretty extreme and a bit sick in the circumstances. Grow up

Silverclocks · 10/04/2022 13:32

It seems like a ridiculous risk to take to me. Whatever you think of him, the country doesn't need to have to deal with the avoidable death of the PM.

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/04/2022 13:40

Aw, it's nice that some people like him and find him useful.Smile

On the other hand, he has destroyed the UK so I'm not a fan.

Walkingtheplank · 10/04/2022 13:44

Shameful thread.

HRTQueen · 10/04/2022 13:48

The next election is on the horizon.

He isn’t the only country leader to use Ukraine for his political ambitions but he is also a maverick he will do what he sees is fit must be a security nightmare

Diverseopinions · 10/04/2022 13:54

I agree Silverclicks

It seems to be rubbing it in, as far as I can see, that he will get protection, when thousands of human beings in the country are exposed to atrocities. If he wants to go, why tell us and why gab the photo op. If there is a serious purpose, eschew the publicity opportunity

derxa · 10/04/2022 14:14

Well done Boris

DesidaCrick · 10/04/2022 14:21

It would have done more good for him to stay at home and sort out the visa debacle. There are desperate and vulnerable people still hiding out in the middle of a war zone waiting for the UK’s chaotic visa process.

HardyBuckette · 10/04/2022 14:23

Johnson going to Kyiv to physically demonstrate UK support for Ukraine is important and a positive thing. It's vital that Ukraine and Zelensky continue to visibly receive Western support, and that's true regardless of one thinks of Johnson personally. He's the PM of the UK, for now anyway, so his presence in a free Kyiv matters. Also glad UVDL went, for similar reasons.

WRT his handling of the Ukraine situation, the new military aid package is great news and something we can build on, the delays in sanctions were craven and pathetic and we still haven't done enough, and the response to refugees is insufficient.

Squiff70 · 10/04/2022 14:25

I'm quite sure I've read every post on this thread and can't see anyone actually wishing Boris dead. I may have missed a post!
